    Already picking his brain.

371 consecutive games played and 922 consecutive games played.

I love Provy. Wish more were like him. It should be an interesting season.

    :PopcornSmiley2:

Veteran influences is only going to help Provie become a better defenseman and not feel like he has to do it all by himself.

Meltzer speculating/reporting that Giroux is expected to take a pay cut to finish his career in Philly, providing stability for his family.

The number he had was in the 6-6.5 range.

I like the Coots signing and the Flyers should take the "C" off of Giroux and give it to Coots. As for resigning Giroux, if the Flyers aren't in the playoffs at the deadline try trading Claude to a contender. And if he wants to resign in Philly then offer him a 3 year deal at $6 million per year.

Yeah  I think that's the way it plays out. I don't think it happens this year, but I suppose even that is possible.  I think this could likely be the reason they gave a little more to him to get the second year rather than just one from arbitration. They don't have to make that judgment this year yet and can patiently punt York to next year *if they want/need.*

Or, they even get more for him this year with him locked into next year yet.

But yeah, I think they expect York to take that spot.

Having York play in the AHL this year would be the best thing for his development, playing top minutes on D, getting lots of power play time will be beneficial. As for Sanheim, if he is having a great year in the 2nd year of this contract then the Flyers might be able to get assets for him.

    Don't disagree.

I think, though, had they gone to arbitration it would have been very similar and potentially more (I don't think justifiably so, but you never know with arbitration).  But it would very likely have been one year.  There must be some hedging whether York will be ready for that in only one year. And probably concern about both Sanheim and Risto heading into UFA in the same offseason.  Might be more manageable this way.

Probably slightly high on merit, but sadly merit is not the only criteria (not sure if it really ever was, but it certainly is not now).

I'm wondering about only 22 players, though.  So now I'm thinking probably another small move.  If it's NAK, I'm okay with it   I'd like to see him for another year, but I won't be upset either.

On the other hand, *IF* York says "I'm here!" in camp, do you move Braun for that space? I think prevailing wisdom is let York develop in the A,  but I can see the temptation if he has a really good camp.  All this being *if.*

Sanheim could end up being the odd man out if York develops the way the Flyers hope. If York does then Sanheim becomes a trading chip for the Flyers to acquire a player they need. It's an overpayment but like other posters have said it's the way Fletcher has done business when it comes to signing or resigning players.

Yes i thought around 3 mill per. So this leaves them 4 mill to sign Travis with. Not very much of a raise.

I was hoping for $3 million per year also but Fletcher never does anything right when it comes to handing out contracts. Sanheim may have to sign a one year deal if he doesn't like what the Flyers are offering, the Flyers do have York in the wings.

I think Mrazek will be the backup.

I have no reason to believe the Leafs are a TOP 3 team in their normal division. They haven't made a noteworthy acquisition thus far to improve the team, and they're still losing talented depth guys.  :(

I think Mrazek will be the starter or Campbell and him will split the games.

They sure pulled the plug quick on Myers.

You're not kidding!  The Flyers, Blues, Canadiens, and Bruins are the winning"est" teams in NHL history..... at least during the regular season.  Did I miss anyone?  :)

Until I see the Flyers miss the playoffs for ~5 consecutive years I can't agree with your assessment.  The Flyers never go down. Two things I'll never see in my life:

    1. The Flyers going through a rebuilding phase where they suffer tough times (for more than one season in a row).
    2. The Leafs finishing ahead of the Bruins in the standings.

    ;)

The Flyers management doesn't know what it means to rebuild where they suffer tough times for more than one year, they just kept "retooling". As for your Leafs, they're going to be in tough this coming year going back to their old division, hopefully Mrazek is the answer in net but they need to shore up the defense.

The gaslighting that last year was an anomaly is hysterical.

Last year was right in line with what that group did for a decade.

    This is a new group.

    Make it happen.

I think for the long time Flyers fans this coming season is a wait and see approach. With the new additions and the old unwanted players gone, the expectations will be at a minimal. It will be interesting to see which players rebound and get back on track (Hart). As well as the coaching staff, it seems to me the moves that Fletcher made were with discussions with AV to see what players he'd like. If AV can't get this team back to the playoffs and on the right track then I can see him gone. Being a long time fan, I don't get too excited when they're playing well or too down when they play like ****, but it would be nice to see them win a cup before I die. It's going to be a tough road to qualify for the playoffs, if they do make it they'll probably be a wildcard team. Personally I'd like to see the younger players play more but that's not going to happen with AV.

IMO, he's an insurance policy. For $800K, he won't block anybody that's able to play their way onto the roster.

It's definitely an underwhelming signing, but I think they're expected to use much of the rest of their ~$8M cap space on Sanheim and Hart.

Well with the remaining cap space, I hope Fletcher gets Hart's contract done first then Sanheim.

Listening to a radio show in Canada...I think it is Sportsnet, and they are having a good laugh over the Jones signing.

I know Jones hasn't done anything since he did the magical run with the Sharks in 2016. I was hoping that Fletcher would have signed Holtby instead since Hart and Holtby know each other and Holtby is better than Jones (Holtby ended signing with Dallas for the same cost). But maybe Holtby didn't want to come to Philly probably like a lot of other free agents.

    F@#%ing Fletched again!

Go ahead and defend this dumpster fire of a trade....I double dog dare ya!

And now, to help rebuild the team we have NO 1st round pick. NO 2nd rounder next year, NO 2nd rounder the year after.

Homer is back as GM...his name is Fletcher.

I can't believe he did all that to get rid of Ghost and bring in a worst defenceman.

Well I said this was the summer for Fletcher to put his stamp on the team and his stamp guarantees that the Flyers will be bottom feeders for the next 5 years. What a ***** idiot. The best thing to happen is if the fans stay away from the arena and it forces the ownership to fire Fletcher's ass. It will be interesting to see what other **** ups Fletcher has for the Flyers fanbase.

The scary part is that Ghost, who had 2 years at 4.5 million cost us a #2 and  7 to get rid of. So to dump Jake at 3 years and 8.5 million is gonna cost at least a first round pick, probably more. So if we cannot dump Jake, JVR or Hayes, we will not be able to re-sign G, which is probably a good thing. We also have to prepare for Coots wanting 8 million a year. If we could get a couple of really good young players , maybe we have to trade Coots since we are stuck with three big contracts.

Well unless Giroux wants to be making which Coots is making right now, little over $4 million per year that's the only way I see the Flyers resigning Giroux since Coots will probably get $8 million per year and end up being the Flyers next captain. If Giroux agrees to the type of contract then I'd gladly see him back as a Flyer otherwise goodbye. Depending on what happens this coming season, I wouldn't mind seeing Giroux traded at the deadline for a young player and picks.

This feels like Timonen all over again. Timonen was the same age when the Flyers acquired him. As much as it hurts giving up Myers,  the pipeline still has York, Zamula, Attard, Wylie, Hogberg, Millman, and whoever they draft this year. It's not completely devoid of talent.

I suspect that Larsson will probably be the target for the second pairing, provided that Voracek or JVR are selected by the Kraken and/ or moved in a trade.

This is a legitimate good move.

I hope you're right, I like the trade Ellis will help Provorov improve his game. Now we'll see what else Fletcher has up his sleeve.

I think Ellis would be a very good option for the defense.

Here is the rub...we would have to wait till after the expansion draft because they have to protect Provorov, Sanheim and Myers already.

So unless you want to trade one of those three for Ellis it will have to wait. I kind of want to hold onto Sanheim and Myers.

    It is tricky.

True enough, what are the options again for the protection list for teams.

If i am Chuckles i wait the expansion draft out they are good and have everyone important protected.

So therefor the have leverage i am not sure about all the other teams so no way i make a trade before this is over unless it is an offer i can't refuse. Something that works in the Flyers favor. Wait it out.

Then after the expansion draft come out your shelter and then view the scorched earth and what is left in the after math and go from there....see who survived but don't be a victim of Seattle.

Then you can open trade talk before the draft...see what is available then. Still might not be much that works. Then you go into free agency and see who wants what and go from there. I hope they have a plan.

Well the plan you laid out makes sense hopefully Fletcher has a similar plan.

Fletcher needs to take advantage of this market and give the impression he's busy wheeling and dealing phone offers/return calls on players.

Teams are gonna loose players, you need to cash in on some of those guys to use as pieces for other deals. Aquire players as assets to move to other teams to get your guys. Find out what the other guys wants are to use in your trades and if anything grab some picks for this draft that are gonna have late round steals since the draft year got turned upside down with the lost players evaluation scouting.

Easier said then done but that's where you put in the work.

I know it's been talked about on here, but Ryan Ellis of Nashville would be interesting since Nashville has 5 defensemen they would like to hold onto but can't so maybe Ellis and his $6.25 cap hit would be something they'd consider moving in order to protect other D.

Taking the last few seasons as a whole, I'm not really sure what it is everyone expected Fletcher to do. He traded for Nisky and that really turned things around. It was a plus. Pitlick was a plus. Thompson and Grant weren't.  But if some people here want to blame it on covid, then make it a blanket, not selective. When the Flyers were making their playoff run, Fletcher was good. When they fell apart, he sucked, even though the team was essentially the same

I still prefer to wait an see what he does now. The rubber has met the road. If he screws up, I dont think he will be here too much longer

And if you're a fan who thinks all is lost, there is no chance anything can get better, and Fletcher is incapable of doing a single thing right, I don't know, maybe you should watch a different sport or hit the off button

This off season will go a long way in Fletcher's tender as of Flyers GM, he has to put his stamp on this team going forward, hopefully he does it the right way.

IF Montreal gets to the finals (or wins the whole thing) it'll be bittersweet for Toronto.

A championship in Montreal would probably make up for the one that was stolen by the NHL and given to Colorado in 1996.  It's a shame that Montreal isn't playing Colorado right now instead of Vegas.

No if the Habs win the cup then every team will go back to playing the ***** trap system and boring hockey will be back. If there is a hockey god, either Vegas comes back and beats the Habs in 7 or the winner of the Bolts/Islanders series takes the Habs out in 4 games.

Apparently Flyers scouts informed Hextall NOT to pick Patrick and that any of Makar, EP, or Heiskanen were better picks.  Hextall ignored their advice and chose Patrick.

Well Patrick did play for the Brandon Wheat Kings which was junior team that Hextall played for. There's a lot of decisions that Hextall made that were head scratchers.

So we're all in agreement then - a number of veterans must be moved and the coaching staff needs a short leash while management needs to put a stamp on this club in terms of identity and style.

Yes, Giroux and Voracek's time in Philly should be up. The NHL isn't the Broad Street Bullies era, Fletcher has to pick players with skill and speed but you still need bottom end grinders on your 3rd and 4th lines who can chip in with goals, play physical and goalie doesn't hurt either. I believe Hart will come around to be the goalie we as Flyers fans hope he can be. The new NHL is a team like the Bolts.
