  1. My mom taught me a neat word association game when I was a kid.

Cavalry. V first = violence (soldiers).

Calvary. L first= love (Jesus on the cross).

Just a usefull tip for any impending interview questions.

  2. Nah, I think this is good for the Flyers. They would have gone into the Pitt series thinking guaranteed win. This puts them back on their heels. Flyers have the offense to beat the rags. And the d has improved by leaps. Goaltending is comparable. Play smart. Stay out of the box.  Don't play Downie. That is all.

  3. The Bryz part of this story aside. What struck me was the part about Mogilny with a team on Russia's east coast. Mogilny had a debilitating fear of air travel. And that was on North American planes. I think I remember reading how he would travel by bus to other cities and how he considered quitting playing because he hated flying so much. Now he'll be traveling by plane more than any other team and doing it on a Russian aircraft? Yikes!

He must have consulted a hypnotist or something.

"It was a huge adjustment to come to the NHL. The language barrier was the toughest part. Lack of communication affected me both on and off the ice. It also took some time to get used to the airline travel. I had to deal with a fear of flying."

  4. You hear GM's and owners complain about travel all the time and how the cost and time has an adverse affect for their teams. Why doesn't someone (not me, I'm not a math guy) figure out the distances one team has to travel to visit all the other teams. Then go to the next team and do the same thing all the way down the list. Every team. That way every team has to spend time and money flying across the country. Equal it out so that travel is the same for all teams. And go back to the original names. Smythe, Adams, Norris and Patrick differentiate it from all other sports and that uniqueness makes it special.

Smythe: Vancouver,Edmonton,Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, NYI, NYR, Boston.

Adams: Winnipeg, Minnesota, Detroit, Toronto, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Jersey.

Norris: San Jose, Colorado, St.Louis, Chicago, Columbus, Washington, Carolina.

Patrick: Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, Dallas, Nashville, Tampa Bay, Florida.

  5. I was just on here yesterday saying that this is exactly what the Flyers need. A quiet, competent goalie comfortable with back-up / share responsibilities. I was so hoping for Emery but thought he was locked up by Chicago. YAHOO! Not a bad job by Flyers management. Shore up defense, add some potentially potent offense, and solve the goal tending woes. Oh yeah and sign our stud. All done without losing important components. Hats off to a job well done. I am impressed.

  6. I'd like to see the Flyers pick up a quiet, competent goalie who's happy with the back-up role. Don't know who that is but I think that is what is needed. Remember we've got a Mason who's a little bit of a head case himself. We don't need some malcontent stirring the pot and getting Mason all frazzled as he starts to find his game.

  7. @ruxpin

They asked him about the goaltending situation and he says he's not at all confident in Mason. There's a reason he's moved around so much the past few years. There's just something about him. Something's not there. It's proven by the fact he's moved around so much. No one seems to want to keep him."

JR played for 6 different teams.

Chris Mason played for 4 different teams

    Steve Mason CBJ, and Phi.

Yeah JR's kind of an idiot.

  8. As the first round indicated, my predictions are useless. I got the Pittsburgh and Chicago series right, but picked them both to win in one game less. The rest? Awful prognosticating! Glad I'm not a betting man.

So with all that said I'm gonna go with Bruins in 6.

  9. I think this will be the must see of the first round. St. Louis with 13 double digit point players, LA with 14. 498 pim for STL, 453 for LA. Don't take a penalty against either club. STL had 29 pp goals and LA had 32. Elliot is 2.28/.907, Quick is 2.45/.902. They finished 2nd and 3rd in fewest shots allowed. This one is so close. LA has owned the Blues for a while and they swept the season series. But the Kings had a 7-6 April while the Blues went 11-2. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is the year STL breaks free. Blues in 7.
