You'd be hard pressed to find a Flyers goalie who's had to play behind a worse team than Harts had to. I don't mean for a season, I mean for his entire duration. Not to mention he's at the age most goalies are starting their NHL careers, and he's in his SIXTH season. The guy turned 25 not long ago.

If someone wants to blow us away with an offer, take it. I just don't see it happening. And if I have to wait another 4 decades for Philly to find a decent goalie....I don't think I have that long.

That's the thing though. The pipeline is being replenished with goaltenders and Kolosov is REALLY good. And more important, he's signed to come over next year. I had hoped for Fedotov to give over this year, but that's a wash and he'll be used as a ticket to get Michkov out of Russia early. And I fully expect that the Flyers will draft more goaltenders in 2024 and probably look at the NCAA free agents as well.

As for Hart, I hope he hits. I really do. But I'm not holding my breath. Yes I get that the Flyers have not been good for the majority of his career. But usually you see goalies embrace that challenge of back stopping a bad team and don't break down mentally over that. That's been Hart's Achilles heel. When things don't go his way, he gets lost mentally and checks out. He needs to get tough mentally.

I was there last night as I couldn’t pass up a chance to see the boys in person when they come to Raleigh. Great game by the Flyers (minus the ****** PP).

Hart played out of his mind. I may be in the minority but I really hope that Danny doesn’t trade him and can get him extended. Walker was a solid pick up and has played very well. Sanheim has raised his game and the ability to roll four lines or have four lines contribute is refreshing!

Here's my issue with Hart. He gets on a roll early in the season and he looks all world. Then a losing streak will happen and he completely falls apart. Like mentally, he completely checks out. To make matters worse, these breakdowns usually happen during important marks in the season. Then once the Flyers are eliminated from contention and the pressure is off, Hart goes back to good goalie mode.

I need to see Hart get over this hump before making any commitment. And even then, I'd only sign him to a over year deal to see if he can repeat his success.

Yeah I'm rough on Hart, but I've watched this club for nearly 40 years and I've been caught up in good goaltenders before that have flamed out. This is a critical year for Hart to set is he can finally put it all together from a mental standpoint.

I've had discussions with people that are angry with the fact that Danny B chose Bonk when Perrault was still on the board...and maybe Perrault turns out to be a stud..but If Bonk turns out to be a steady dependable D-Man, well a team needs those guys too...

side note BC has Gauthier, Leonard, Will Smith and Perrault...that team is STACKED!

I didn't care for Perrault. The guy I wanted was Riley Heidt. I thought the Flyers needed a legit center prospect and this was a 17 year old in the WHL who played in all situations, got lots of ice time and scored 97 points. Terrific skater, intelligent and physical. In reality, he was a better skating Mike Richards. I'm glad that Bonk is a Flyer though. Seriously, he's going to be a top pairing defenseman for a long time. That was also a need.

I was reading Bleacher Report tonight and they had their first regular mock draft and they had the Flyers drafting Zayne Parekh and Cayden Lindstrom. I just watched some video of Lindstrom tonight and what an impressive physical talent. He's got size at 6'5, 210 pounds, but he's got speed, smarts and hands. And he can shoot. He's got Tage Thompson vibes to him.

Well, I guess Hart recovered from whatever. Taking Brink out---well, Poehling is bigger....still, seems strange.

Flyers development 101. Add this to Tortorella's press conference after the game about not wanting to get into a run and gun game with Anaheim and you just have to shake your head. If you're that afraid of the Ducks and if you think your players can't keep up, then maybe you need to move on. Yeah, I'm really starting to sour on the Tortorella experience. It also doesn't help that he says he doesn't understand offensive hockey and the guy on the staff who supposedly understands offensive hockey runs the third worst power play in the league.

I hope Elliotte Desnoyers is OK after this cheap shot to the head...

...good to see Attard jumping and defend his team-mate

Didn't look dirty on the replay. Osipov clearly has a height advantage on Desnoyers and he caught Desnoyers with the puck. The on ice awareness of players sometimes isn't what it should be.

Would LOVE to see that! Greentree is a beast! Pretty low bar for ex-Spitfires playing for the Flyers. Eric Wellwood was promising before the horrible injury. Leighton froze on the infamous Kane goal...he makes that save, gets out of the OT and wins game 7? ...ok...pipedream.

The other one I can recall is Frank (Blood) Bathe...lol.

Edit...missed Neuivirth and Steve Downie ...bar still LOW!

81-82 season Frank Bathe actually won the Barry Ashbee Trophy....lol, not saying much since Norm Barnes won it 2 years prior...some down years before Mark Howe arrived!

I'm going for a defenseman and a forward this year again. If the defenseman is Mews from Ottawa and the forward is Greentree, that's a win for me.

I can't wait till the Flyers get some star talent like that on board.

Define star talent. The only reason I ask is because that term is being thrown around like the term "franchise player" used to be.

Is a star player someone who scores 100 points in a season? Is it someone who scores 50 goals? Is it someone who has a two-way game like Patrice Bergeron had? Is it a defenseman that averages a point per game and plays 25+ minutes a night?

See what I mean. Star player is so generic that with no definition, it could be anything.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but there really needs to be a definition of what a star player is.

This is what we wanted this season, though isn’t it?

are we happy about it? No! That’s us as Philly fans hahaha.

I must be a masochist because I'm loving this. I really want to see who wants to be here and is willing to fight through. As well, in looking forward to seeing the first veteran who has an all out war with Tortorella about how the team is run or how Rocky Thompson continues to roll out a power play that is far beyond horrible and nothing will change.

I find it so difficult, being completely biased towards the Flyers, to really figure out whether a total rebuild is necessary. When I look at these players:

Konecny, Coots, Farabee, Tippet, Cates, (Laughton), Brink, Foerster, even Frost

I keep thinking this is a legit core group of guys. With Gauthier and Michkov hopefully being elite and above the rest, then we are talking. I dont know if I'm over evaluating all these names, but I hope im not. But again this is where the doubt creeps in due to severe biasness...

For me, the real doubt, and what the rebuild process for me constitutes is on the blue line, not at forward or at goal. At forward I feel we are several steps already into the rebuild phase, but the D is several steps behind...and those two groups need to be aligned. This new Sanheim can possibly fastrack it, along with York gaining more experience. Andrae is still a question mark, and Zamula will probably end up as a serviceable reliable 5-6 (which is fine). But we need to completely focus on the D if we want to have a chance to utilize/exploit the good work done at forward.

Am I totally off thinking we dont need a rebuild/tear it down at foward? Again a top nine of Konecny, Farabee, Tippet, Brink, Foerster, Cates, Coots, Gauthier, Michkov and even Laughton/Frost is pretty darn good no?

Agreed that the forwards are further along and the defense is a work in progress.

If they move Frost and get a defender in return (right handed preferably), that should help. Bonk is about 2 to 3 years away at a minimum and Attard is aging himself out of the prospect group.

The good news is that with two first round picks this year and with the draft being deep with good right handed defensemen, the Flyers should be able to draft one.

I'm still on the bandwagon though that Gauthier will be a left wing at the NHL level, so they're going to need a top center prospect to balance things out.

Would Minnesota be considered a "good team"?

103 points, I think that's good...I know they made the playoffs and they were eliminated by a good Dallas team in the 1st round.

Not sure what that says, bad draw stylistically or Dallas is just better.

Are the Wild considered to be a threat in the West or are they in that second tier of teams that would need to get hot and go on a tear to get to the final?

    103 points is not nothing.

The Flyers whipped their asses last night.

There were 10 minutes around the end of the 2nd period and the beginning of the 3rd where the Wild pressed and made it a contest, briefly.

Then the Flyers shut the door with 3 unanswered goals.

Buccigross ended the ESPN telecast saying the Flyers are fun to watch, and better than people will be expecting.

If the Flyers wind up being "ahead of schedule" what do we think that means at the trade deadline?

Personally don't think they should be buyers, but does Danny Jonesy® stand pat? do they sell anyway? I think selling is a bad message to the youngsters, but we aren't making s'mores and singing Kum Bye Ah here either.

I think this will be an interesting hockey season for this team.

That was a good outing, Farabee is looking like a potential leader, Ol' Foerester looks like an NHLer to me, nice back checking and good little 5-foot plays to keep plays going or get them started. Bobby Brink got on the score sheet, I think he gets better from here. Tippett blew a seed past the Wild goalie to ice the game, he's been on the come also.

    They might not be ******.

I still hope they're sellers. I'll give credit where it's due - they're playing well right now. That's the year 2 Tortorella effect. However, I still see a lineup with players playing out of position, relying on players that are past their prime or just aren't any good. The other interesting thing that Tortorella pointed out in his press conference last night is how does this team respond if they go on a prolonged losing streak? If they go on a 10 game losing streak (how many of those did we see when Schmuck Felcher was GM), are they going to be able to pull themselves out of it? I'm not convinced they can.

I also see some players with ridiculously high shooting percentages. Once those go down, we'll start to see what kind of team this is. Right now, the shooting is simply unsustainable and while I appreciate the heaters some are on, it's going to cover down to earth eventually.

In terms of movement, I'm good with seeing Deslauriers, Atkinson, Laughton, Staal, Sandstrom all go. I have no problems if they listen to potential Couturier deals, provided they are already out of the playoffs.

I'm not trying to crap on what they're doing because the truth is, Tortorella has worked in a number of younger players into the lineup (Brink, Foerster, Zamula) and he's getting results. At the same time, there's still a lot of work to do. It's too early in the season to determine whether they're ahead of plans or not.

Walker's bio is interesting.  Undrafted. LA staff knew him from college.  He had a very good college career at Bowling Green. He played well with Reign and Kings. But an injury seems to have set him back. Maybe he is healed with a good change of scenery.

Sean Walker has been so good this year. Every GM needs a steal in a trade and Briere did well getting Walker. He really does play a solid game.

And can I just add in, Sanheim is in beast mode to start the year. That extra 15 pounds of muscle he put on has been a significant difference maker. He's a completely different player with that added muscle. He might just end up being a legit number one.

As OC alluded to, Bonk has top 4 Dman written all over him. Excellent value for where he was selected if it all works out.

The really underrated thing about Bonk is his passing. He's so good at that aspect of the game.

I really really like the Bonk pick too.

10 assist so far in 10 games. +5

    Good start to the year.

I openly admit that I did not like the Bonk pick at all. However, after watching more and more video of him during his draft year, his play really reminds me of a Hampus Lindholm type of defenseman. Just so smooth and so effortless. He makes the right play all the time and there is ZERO panic in his play. He might never be a big point producer in the NHL, but he's the type of defenseman you want out on the ice in the last minute of a game with a one goal least and the opposition is using six skaters. He's got the upside of a modern day shutdown defender.
