If the daughter of Scotty Bowman married the son of Al Arbour, and that child were coaching this team I don't believe they could do any better

That said, I doubt Quinn makes it through the year. It is easier to fire a coach than to fire 19 players no matter how much they may deserve to be fired.

How is it the coaches fault if he has no talent to work with? I thought and still think the Pens are bad team this year.

After impressive wins against the Flyers, Lightning, and Capitals (5-2, 5-2, and 6-1), the Senators have now dropped their last three games against the Wings, the Sabres, and tonight, against the Islanders (5-2, 6-4, and 3-2 respectively).

Ottawa IS playing hard and generating a crap ton of shots, but the offensive results seems to have abandoned them, and it seems any mistakes on defensive coverage is being taken advantage of by the other side.

While I think the Sens should be in the mix for a playoff spot, I think this roller coaster type trip they seem to be on will be the norm for them all season.
Until they learn to lock down that defense, or the goalie starts stealing more games, it will be like ying-yang with their powerful offense and somewhat suspect defense.

Hmmm...maybe it's time for another Brady Tkachuk outburst?
Maybe he should challenge the Penguins during warmups in their next game?

"Which one of you water fowl wants some? Anybody want some? No??"

After thumping the avs. 4-0. The Penguins took a 21-7 shot advantage to the 2nd period. Unfortunately Jarry came down with Marc Andre Fleury syndrome and the Pens were looking looking at a 2-0 deficit. In root to a 5-2 loss! So much for a playoff run. Maybe the Penguins had to much fun on the golf course last year?!

To the surprise of no one, the Penguins are taking it to the Hawks.

Chicago is game, don't get me wrong. Lots of guys on that  team, young guys and veterans alike, looking to bag themselves a Crosby....but honestly, Pittsburgh looks that much better than Chicago on the ice in general.
Too many breakdowns on defense, Petr Mrazek in goal looking overwhelmed.....Hawks have a very nice player in Bedard to further their rebuild, but they are gonna lose a LOT more before they see any light at the end of the tunnel.
There are no shortcuts for him that I can see.

Pittsburgh leads Chicago 2-0 with 8 to go in the 2nd, but despite the score looking close still, the flow of the game just looks clearly in favor of the Pens.

So much for beating the Hawks. The Tuxedo birds lost 4-2. Of course they quit in the third period. Good start for a lottery pick.

Forgetting politics (if that is possible in this world anymore)

I would love to see SKA Moscow or St/ Petersburg  play against NHL teams, one issue would be rink size, the KHL plays a 197 by 92 foot rink, the NHL plays a 200 by 85, so whoever hosted would have an advantage based off what they are used to.

I believe the top tier KHL teams fall somewhere between the top of the AHL and the bottom of the NHL. For instance, if you look at SKA who went 41-22-5 they have a bunch of failed NHLers from NA and Europe, guys like Grigorenko who washed out in Buffalo/Colorado, Christian Jaros, Fredrik Claesson, Darren Dietz, Vitaly Abramov, Sergei Plotnikov, Vladislav Kamenev, Maxim Mamin and Nikita Nesterov, who the most hardcore of NHL fans will remember for brief NHL careers. I believe the teams best player Konstantin Okulov could easily be an NHL regular if he had chosen to do so but instead he decided to stay home in Russia where he is a star.Their goalie is the Infamous Ivan Fedotov who the league and the Flyers are fighting over his rights. He is IMHO a capable AHL goalie or possibly an NHL backup. In the KHL with this team he will be a star.

St. Petersburg same kind of thing, Nikita Gusev wh bombed with the Knights is among the leagues greatest stars, Dmitri Jaskin, Mikhail Vorobyov who failed to impress the Flyers, Valentin Zykov, Alex Grant all  former NHLrole players at best playing key roles. They also have young studs who were drafted early in the NHL drafts who havent come over such as Maret Khusnutdinov (2nd round Wild) and Alex Nikishkin (3rd round Carolina) and Maxim Groshev (3rd round Tampa) all of whom will eventually play in North America and all are considered fine prospects.Their main goalie is 23 year old Dmitri Nikolayev who has no intention of coming to North America, has made it clear he is happy in Mother russia and went 30-7-3 with a 1.98 goals against last year.

So I see these two teams, the best that the KHL has to offer as capable and even slightly favored if facing AHL champ Hershey in a seven game series, but on the opposite end, overwhelmingly favored to get their hat handed to them against a bottom feeder like the Sharks or Canadiens. This is team versus team.

You could make an All star team of KHL stars who could give an average NHL team a run for their money on a given night, but that is an unfair comparison. Team for team the NHL is superior, even the worst we have to offer is significantly better than their best teams. Not insulting the league I would love to see it happen but it would not be close.  It would be fun to watch but wouldnt be much of a series team versus team. I could see the argument that it is the worlds second best league but it is not just a dropoff from one to two, it is a chasm.

Nothing against international competition. Ukrainian war looms politically. Sports cannot always be separated from politics. Still own a St. Petersburg sweater from a tour of U.S. colleges in early 80s. So, to elaborate, bad timing and puts athletes in a political spotlight they didn't ask for.

I agree with the timing of the idea.

    Well played.

My Torpedo vs. my Stars? Yes please. I have no idea how that's going to happen, Jokerit rejoining the Liiga is gonna happen sooner I think, but I love international rivalries in sports. NHL vs. KHL would be really fun to watch to me, and there are some really strong teams in the KHL of course. I want more hockey, not less.

Unfortunately with the war in Ukraine I don't think this will happen any time soon. Maybe after Putin is relieved of his duties.

I would not mind seeing foreign teams play N.H.L teams. Only in the preseason tho.

They probably still make their money. Even though they are listed as "owner", every team is run by an entity: Minnesota Sports and Entertainment, Comcast Spectacor, Fenway Sports Group, Gale Force Sports and Entertainment, etc. The money comes into these entities and gets distributed.

So while they can't appear in their box at the arena or be part of team functions (which I'm guessing is more of a blow to their egos than anything), I'm betting they still get paid.

I was curious.  In my opinion somehow this entity should split his portion among the rest till the suspension is served.

    Thanks for the info!

When the NHL suspended Henry Samueli from the Ducks, he couldn't have any contact with the team or the league...

Thanks Illa! I'm curious about the financial side?I  understand there is no contact, what happens to the money if there  profit or loss,(forfeit I guessing). Losses I'm not sure of.

  9. Domestic  violence charges were dropped against Coyotes minority owner Andrew Burroway. He was suspended by THE  N.H.L. pending outcome of the trial.

I'm curious when an owner is suspended what is the effect on the owner?

PREVIOUS SEASON 40-31-11 91 Points, missed playoffs by one point with a fatal disastrous loss in the seasons final game to the Blackhawks. minus 2 goal differential

ADDITIONS Well start with Karlsson who brings 100 points on the blueline to a team in need of offense. Ryan Graves is as underrated a defensive blueliner as the game has. Reilly Smith joins the middle six. Noel Acciari and Lars Eller help solidify what was a very weak 4th line. Andreas Johnsson will be given a chance to replace Zucker. Nedjelkovic is the new backup goalie. Lots of additional depth pieces like Nieto and Pitlick join the club.

DEPARTURES Petry is gone to Detroit via Montreal. Dumoulin and Rutta are also gone from the back end. Granlund was moved out to bring in Karlsson. Zucker is now in Arizona. DeSmith is a Hab. Heinen, Bonino and Kulikov all looked old and slow and all are gone.

KIDS IN THE SYSTEM Sam Poulin is about it, a winger with 3rd line skill at best who may make the team unless they find a way to sign Tatar. Pittsburgh cupboard is bare. There is nothing in the system even close to playing in the NHL.

SO ALL THESE MOVES ARE THEY CUP CONTENDERS AGAIN? AFTER ALL, THEY MISSED THE PLAYOFFS BY ONLY ONE POINT

Man i want to say yes, i really do. I believe they are better than last year but the problem is several other clubs are as well. This oer the hill gang has about a three year window if everything breaks right, Letang, Crosby and Malkin are all in their own ways showing signs of age, Karlsson is right in the same group.

They are better, but so are several other clubs. I think they will fight to the last week of the season against Boston and Buffalo for the final playoff spot and fall just short with Boston having just enough to send Pittsburgh home without a playoff spot for the second straight year. It is now a young mans game built around speed and youth, Pittsburgh is the opposite and IMHO the Karlsson trade and resigning Jarry to a five year extention will prove to be mistakes. Painfully close but just short. Again.

They gave up to much for Karlsson! I  wanted them to keep the 2 1st round picks. In hopes they would pan out so the Pens could build a team that would compete for a Cup or 2.
