I think what was going on was Malkin playing almost 28 minutes and Crosby playing 25. Matching Couturier and Giroux against those two doesn't leave a lot of time for the other guys.
I think Rags get bumped tonight. Alfredsson returning, chance to advance on home ice against a New York team that's struggling to score... I think the Sens put a couple quick ones in and the Rangers can't keep up. I even bet all my tokens on it.
Not just during the game. They changed nothing between games. The biggest was not making any adjustments to their PK with the Flyers eating them alive. And even when Blysma had last change, Laviolette managed to get the matchup he wanted 90% of the time.
Fair points. Malkin did look a bit gassed through most of the game and parts of game 5, and I'm not sure why. Maybe his late season charge to the Ross wore him out?
2nd star yesterday. Played 22:09, a lot of that against Malkin and Crosby. +3. 7 blocks. Kid had a fine game. Didn't realize he was a +12 in 30 games through the regular season. When Meszaros and Grossman comes back, I think he sticks. While Lilja hasn't been terrible, I think Gus gives us a little more. Sure, he had that brain fart in the last few minutes, but that was the only mistake I saw him make all game. Thoughts?
I could write a convincing argument to say they are anyway. The rookies didn't play like rookies this series. Briere is rounding into playoff form. Roo is a beast. Meszaros and Grossmann should be back very soon. If Bryz plays like the last two games, they'll be a tough out for anyone.
B21, Nice summary. Seems to be the view of ~75% of the Pens fans that I've seen comments from. There are of course those who accused Couturier and Schenn of diving (not sure I've ever seen someone dive to get a penalty and go to the locker room). I have no problems with Crosby's comments, though the way he said them could come across as childish. But at the same time, given what we've seen through the first three, being particularly eloquent isn't going to be high on your list. The Pens have a lot of talent. The Flyers are a bad matchup for them because while they don't have the same top-end talent, they have more skill farther down the depth chart. This causes some matchup issues at game time. This would have been a marquee ECF. Too bad it's in the first round.
I'm not sure I do. However, a number of Pens fans have noted his post game attitude is different. The antics on Sunday are easy enough to attribute to temporary frustration. But if he's handling himself differently, with a bit sharper edge on a regular basis outside the game, on a regular basis? That could be cause for some concern.
No worries Podes. It does get me a bit bothered when people openly wish for someone to take a serious head injury though (not that anyone has in this thread, just sayin). Mad Dog's question is valid. Serious injuries can change the way you live, but head injuries can change who you are...
It's less and less anecdotal. I've noticed heightened anger responses in myself. Head injuries are a scary, scary thing,, especially when we don't know that they've happened half the time.
Torres will get longer because he's a multiple repeat offender. He was suspended earlier this year, and he was suspended last year. Keith concussed Sedin.
UPDATE: Still no word on potential suspensions to Neal and Asham. this update brought to you by the same people who felt necessary to tell you there was no update on Crosby's condition for 10 months. EDIT: That was funnier in my head
