"and maybe the greatest player to ever play the game" That's some serious hyperbole.

Anaheim still has an opportunity to qualify. That doesn't however, speak to them regaining their excellence, but rather the ineptitude that is currently the pacific division.

Nicklas Lidstrom, Ray Bourque and Denis Potvin are the only ones I would bestow the hart upon. Paul Coffey I wouldn't rank above Hasek for the hart that season. Hasek had a save percentage of 9.30 when second place had 9.06..
Ideally though, I would have Lindros as the winner, Hasek second and Coffey third...

There's many obscure NHL players that contributed in WW2 and 1 that passed away this year. Anyways, Nice of you to do this tribute.

A superstar talent with a ten cent head, a perception of himself that he was Gretzky or some such. At one point he had a charity that he was donating money to in Ottawa that he pulled his backing from because they refused (rightly) to put his mother on the board in spite of all language barriers. Best forgotten.
Honestly, despite all the negativity surrounding Yashin. I think it will be difficult excluding him as a candidate among the best Ottawa players...

He is definitely one of the contenders for the most avaricious hockey players in history, but what makes him even more contentious is how half assed his performances were during postseason. Ofc he would be, he has no potential money to gain during the playoffs...

True story, the Wings were prepared to draft Bure late in the draft but when they reached the podium they were told he was underage and not eligible. Instead, a round later Vancouver was allowed to put him up causing all kinds of heartburn and ire from the Wings, threats of a lawsuit and more. It came to naught, just a royal screw up by the league.
But can you imagine Bure growing up on Federov's wing? No doubt in the world it would have been the making of the greatest second line in the history of the game. Personally I think Bure would have clashed with Bowman, but who knows, the Wings may have won a cup or two and not ever signed bowman or traded for Shanny. One of those big what ifs in the history of the game.
Because of Bure being a defensive liability? Actually, Bure pre injury was fairly decent defensively and was not as much a liability as people seem to think.

Because I find myself agreeing with everything in this entry

just saying, 30 goals was not overly impressive in the era Williams played in...

Thank you very much!
Great Article, its interesting to know about the players that never played in the nhl or the ones that had their primes in another league.
Just a suggestion, maybe you should start with more of some of the Russians that had most of their careers out of the NHL. Kharlamov, Makarov, Larionov, Maltsev, Firsov, fetisov, vasiliev ETC. (
Or maybe, some of the players that had their careers pre 50s, I mean, everyone knows about Richard, but not alot of people mention Shore, Morenz, Cleghorn, Lach, ETC
Not saying you have to do any of these if you dont prefer to, just suggestions

Why Patrick Kane's performance this season should surprise no one

Nice article. Not only that though, but Kane has been progressing as a player since 2010. Patrick Kane has been a PPG player all but one year from 2010-present. Only injuries have prevented him from actually being among the top ten point producers of every year. But despite that, he remains a top 3 point producer of the decade in addition to being a top 3 PPG player tied with Stamkos and only below Crosby and Malkin. So in reality, I don't think this season should have genuinely surprised us as much as it should have.
