  1. Greetings:

It's on Yahoo too. This is part butt covering, part signaling. It is CYA for Homer, et. all. But it is a signal to the team that their lazy, uncommitted play is unacceptable. Their posteriors are next. Berube is a "safe" bet; they know him. But this is a repeat of history...bring in the Assistant. Where have we seen that before? And to what end?  I wonder if Berube is made interim?

Tomorrow night against my hapless, backyard Panthers should be interesting. A battle of the lightweights.

    Best,

    Howie

I'M DONE WITH THIS ORGANIZATION. WHAT AN EMBARRASEMENT.

  2. I just bought tickets to watch this lame a*s team vs. the Pens. The way this team is playing, the only team they can beat is themselves.  So Ed Snider, the way you thank a coach that helped take you to a Stanley Cup final is to show him the door in four years?  Meanwhile, the guy responsible for bringing in the players truly responsible for this mess still has a job? Sounds fair to me.  Oh, and the end of the season we can blame the same old things, goaltending, and no freakin power play.  Although I will blame the entire season on a GM who has no business being one, and a coach who probably doesn't either (remains to be seen, but I'm not optomistic).  Want to do something impulsive Ed? Pick up the phone and either sell the team, or think outside of your 70s and 80s dream team of ex-Flyers, and give Stan Bowman or Ken Holland Brygalov money to leave Chicago or Detroit and fix the crap your putting on the ice.  Oh and trade your overpaid crap like Coburn and Mesazros and bring in a true #1 dman.  Even if Snider brings in Hextall, he hasn't been contaminated with our management's stupidity as of yet.  To think I just I just paid $250 for this current joke of a team.  My enthusiasm for Flyers hockey is dying real fast, and we're 4 games in.  Maybe Homer should be working at Mall of America in Minneapolis, but not as GM of this team.

BEAR IS DONE WITH THIS F'KING FLYERS ORGANIZATION. DONE.

  3.   10 games or approx 1/8th of the season is fair. It gives enough time to see what we are really dealing with. In the meantime, expect that Lavi comb-over to become a full blown helicopter landing site. If we can dump Lavi and Homer in one fell swoop, I'd be THRILLED.

If G has a few more horrid/invisible games, rip the C off him and let the players vote on who replaces them....and hope G does not pout for the next 8 years over it. Personally, I think he would love less pressure and just be able to play.

Let's just pray Homer does not panic and rip this team apart at the seams. I can see this coming, cause he will do what is best for his employment status, not what is best for the Flyers.

Hextall was brought here by Lueko. He is a Comcast guy. He is not a Clarke-Holgren guy. Snider's influence is not what it used to be. This is a public company. I expect to see changes in this franchisee. Lavy and Holmgren will be out games 15-20 unless there is a radical change in the result. And there will not be. And Snider will agree to it and was his hands by following along with this Lueko lead move.

  4. The mobility of this defense is horrible. They're just simply terrible at getting it out of their own zone. And dumping it into the corner with no ability to go get it or know what to do with it if you do is not a game plan.

I'm not jumping ship 3 games in. The start of a new season doesn't make me magically forget what preceded. The very end of last season was a mirage and should have been seen as such. It was nothing more than an organizational inability to even lose when it's in its best interest.

Nothing has changed. We still have the same handful of clueless, slow defensemen. We've added Mez-who sucks-and Streit. No real difference there. Meanwhile, we have a guy like Gus who can actually skate with the damn puck sitting in the press box.

The offense is absurd. It is NOT good enough to score consistently and having Scott Fricken Hartnell on the top line can only be explained by significant brain damage.

And we have a goalie giving up a simple wrist floater from 60 ft. out.

Anything new? No. People say "three games in," but the honest, non-medicated truth is it's simply a three game continuation of the disaster of last year.

Tick tock, tick tock, time is running out on Holmgren and his band of idiots.

    Damn, well spoken...

  5. Just look at the "logic" behind each of the moves.

Primeau - was essentially traded for to replace Lindros. Putting the C on him was the final part of that replacement. Had a good playoff run, lost the C due to injury.

Hatcher - injured when he got it, very much playing out the string. A great leader elsewhere who simply wasn't going to have the time to do it in Philly.

Forsberg - Again, IMO, an attempt to vanquish the Lindros Ghost. "Put the C on your best player" even if he had never been captain of a team at any level. Injured when he got it, "Footpa" never took off in Philly. Traded to Nashville.

Smith - With former captains Briere and Timonen on the roster and signed long term, management picks the elderly journeyman signed on a one-year deal. He leaves after the season.

Richards - Was "captain in waiting" before he had played an NHL game. "The Next Bobby Clarke." Thrust into the role with, again, two former captains on the roster and a third veteran captain who had never played second fiddle to anyone except Scott Neidermeyer added later to "help." Signed to a 12-year deal. Makes it to the Cup Final, at which point there are rumors about a vet/youth split in the locker room. And, yes, partying and whatever. Traded to Los Angeles before his NMC took effect.

Pronger - Never having played second fiddle to anyone but Scott Neidermeyer, is given the C and a long term 35+ contract to go with it. Gets injured and career ends.

Giroux - The new, new face of the franchise. Thrust into a position of responsibility and team misses playoffs for first time in six years.

I didn't understand then and don't understand now most of these decisions. Giroux blossomed under the cover provided by more experienced leaders like Timonen and Briere. I do think that failing to put Kimmo in instead of Smith was a fatal mistake for the team. Said so then. Timonen was the perfect bridge guy to Richards, who could take the reins in his late 20s and ride as captain for a deade.

But since Crosby and Toews got the C early, the Flyers, IMO, felt that they had to give it to their younger player as well. They are a knee-jerk reactionary group that allows their decisions to be coloured and shaped by the moves of those around them.

When I look at Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston and Detroit, that's not how I see those franchises being run,

He's seriously afraid of not seeing another Cup win.

Nothing changes until Snider is potted up on Lemon Hill with the rest of the Sniders. I have never understood why there is such reverence for this guy, just another rich guy sucking the hard eaned money from the pockets of local sports fans. Two Cups in 40 years is an abberation in a style of play that has long left the NHL.

  6. It's hard to get a good feeling for what they're going to be like.

I don't see how they can possibly be worse than last year.  On paper, they're a slightly better team.  And if they are worse than last year??... maybe it'll mean proper changes from the top down.  I imagine Lavi first and then Homer after the season.  Either way, it'll be eventful!

The worst outcome would be another .500'ish season.  Enough to get lavi canned probably but not enough to get this ship properly refitted.

In the meantime the Faithful keep buying the tickets and merchandise and Ed smiles all the way to the bank. Some things never change.

  7. Think is has something to do with the stoppage last year, the subsequent uninspired season, the strange moves in the off season, Giroux's stupid injury after getting his big contract, the way the treated gagne, I don't know.

I'm trying to tell myself it's not because of how bad they look preseason because obviously that doesn't matter, but I'm still not in love with what Labvy's spraying... I dunno, just not sure...

I just have a really bad feeling about this year. God willing I'm just dead wrong.

Your are not dead wrong. It is as seen.

  8. Maybe yes maybe no, Canoli. If he's playing on the 3rd line, that's time less suited to developing a young guy. And he also provides experience, which the forward group generally lacked going into the offseason -Hartnell was the oldest forward at 31, and I don't think he's the guy to say, "Yeah, I've been here. Here's how you work through this..." Youth is great, but it does need a rudder.

I donlt think Hartnell will be here when camp starts so need Somon's veteran presence and third line D.

  9. Don't know much about the guy, but he is ranked 20th in terms of talent by ESPN analyst. Here is the player analysis.

" Remove the fact he sometimes plays too casually for many observers and you are looking at another in a long line of smooth-skating Swedish defensemen who can win races to loose pucks and make an excellent first pass. He has the size and skating ability to be an impact player in NHL, and with natural progression of maturity, he could make an impact in the league sooner rather than later."

CP20 has a new student. Watch what he does with the D corps this year. Unofficially of course.

  10. I have not really been following anything hockey related for a while now, so I am out of touch. However, with the signing of Vinny and the log jam of forwards, I was wondering if there was any way Hartnell might be moved. I kind of like the idea of Read staying and maybe playing on a line with Giroux and Voracek. hartnell had a good year two seasons ago, but I think that was more an anomoly then a constant. Read is younger and in my opinion, more skilled. Hartnell is...well, Hartnell.

Anyway, I am interested in hearing opinions on this

His worth will never be better than now. Move him. Keep Read. Get young.

  11. For those who don't want to bitch and moan about a player they've likely never even seen skate....

The guy is 6'6", the biggest player in the draft. He's near 210 lbs, as a 17 year old. Which means he's also one of the younger players in this draft. He skates very well, not just for a big guy, but very well. He was the fastest riser in the draft this year...which meant he turned a lot of heads. He's got a mean streak. What's not to like about that?

Only surprise is that Fucale not taken yet.

  12. Every GM in the league knows the tension up there with Luongo. Every GM also knows he will never play for Van again, they will buy him out. And then Luongo value will be somewhere 2-3 years @ 4 million, versus his 6+ cap hit. And it wouldn't cost a player or prospect.

So who lets Luongo? Flyers in play? Does Luongo take a discount of $3-4m to get out of a bad situation? Good example of be careful of what you wish for....

  13. This would be a monumentally stupid move by the Nucks. When Schneider is on, he is dominating. There was this wicked stretch last season where he let in 2 goals in six games or something close. If he goes on a run like that in the playoffs, they will be real, real hard to beat. You don't give up on a young goalie that is showing signs of being dominating like that. He has not reached his peak, so the Nucks are gonna deal him, let him reach his prime for someone else after going through all the groing pains....stupid.

Guess this turned out a little different?

  14. Look at him up on the podium with Flyers ownership and management. Fits in perfectly, Hall of Fame pedigree and all. Suspect he will stay on LTIR through the duration of his contract, then move into AGM. He will still be young and the equivalent of a young Hextall starting out. Holmgren and CP20 have the history and relationship. Watch this closely.
