  1. this would also explain Jonesy's comment: 'We need to find OUR Brayden Point in the second round" I think that the Michkov pick definitely signals a paradigm shift..the "safe" pick would have been Ryan Leonard....and most pundits had us picking him as they had Matvei off the board already...
  2. absolutely...in 1990 the Flames drafted Trevor Kidd when Martin Brodeur was dangling in front of them...and how many teams passed on Tom Brady before the Patriots took him at 199... I guess it's the fact that in three consecutive years 2016,2017, and 2018 (pick19) they missed...and in 2018 I believe they traded up (but I am not certain) to #19 to draft O'Brien...that stings...
  3. yup, Bruins could have had DeBrusk, Barzal AND Konecny in one draft...
  4. or....maybe out there in the multiverse the Flyers have won 3 of the last 5 Cups
  5. the 2016 (German Rubstov), 2017 (Nolan Patrick) and 2018 (pick #19 O'Brien) drafts were absolutely crushing for this team...and hopefully the scouting department (and Briere) has learned from this....I don't know if this is hindsight or not, but there was much talk in 2017 (from Bob Clarke) that Cale Makar was the pick to a man..but Hextall vetoed everyone and took Patrick...guess we'll never know the TRUE story...but if we were to play "What If" 2016 - could have picked Tage Thompson 2017 could have picked Cale Makar 2018 #19 could have taken K'Andre Miller I hope Briere and Jones are doing everything in their power to try and prevent these things from happening again!!
  6. Torts seemed to imply as much in his PC. He referenced the fact that the mindset on moving players pertains more to their overall role and if they fit in the plan and scheme, more so than if they have off years or under produced in a given season...which is the right mindset IMO. Perfect example is Foerster...he had quite a dry spell of scoring for a stretch, but since he plays a 200ft game and was effective in other areas and did as he was asked, he never really rode the bench... the problem is that they missed their window on value for Laughton...it's always better to trade a player a year early rather than a year late...
  7. plus Cutter Gauthier signed his ELC today...should be very interesting indeed
  8. Keep Tyson, Brink, Drysdale, Tippett, Sanheim, Poehling the rest listen to offers, even York...he has not shown yet that he is a consistent top line D-Man, Sanheim has outplayed him and York was a high 1st rounder...I don't expect him to be Makar, but he should be showing more... Brink has all the tools, he just lacks size, hate for him to be the one that got away, (yet again...), get him some anabolics and he should improve... Frost is ok as a 3rd liner, even 2nd on occasion, but not much more than that...keep him if he's cheap, or sign and trade the rest...listen to offers....
  9. what i sense from a lot of fans is frustration, because we have a jekyl and hyde team....most of us expected a tanked season, and they gave us a glimmer of hope that they might make some noise in the with their play and standing....only to come crashing down now, it seems. if they make the POs, not many of us expect a long run, and if they miss, the onus is on the FO, and Torts...to analyze what went wrong and takes steps to fix it, by following the plan....I get the sense than Danny is not one to panic and hopefully he sticks to his guns....because what we DON'T need is for him to go into panic mode.... he got his super star in Michov (hopefully)...that's a great start...and that guy NEEDS to be the face of the franchise or the setback will continue for years....
  10. my thoughts as well....the POs this year are a bonus as not many of us expected them to even be in contention....i hope for a few things for next season: 1. Atkinson gone 2. Foerster doesn't pull a Farabee next year and disappear 3. York shows improvement, to where he becomes the D man they expected him to be when drafted, ( a solid #2?) 4. the Goalie situation stabilizes with a bonafide #1, i don't care if that it Errson, Fedotov, or Kolosov...as long as one of them is the undisputed champion 5. secure the backup G spot with a proven veteran, (Brian Elliot type) 6. Decide if Coots still has a place with the team, as of now he is not having the impact he should (+ injuries) 7. What do you do with Frost and Brink? that needs to be answered 8. Get rid of Risto's contract (sounds like his playing days might possibly be over?) 9. Is Zamula an essential piece moving forward? Need more from him 10. Figure out what Torts has in mind going forward and if the FO is what he wants....better to do something sooner rather than later.
  11. I think they did do that...way back at the start of the season, Danny said openly that they would listen to offers on ANY player...and that no one was untouchable. Danny has never wavered from that stance...if anything the Walker trade reinforces that...they might be better if he was still here because he seemed to be playing very well...but they took the asset. also, you can only trade players if other teams want them, maybe they and/or we, overestimated the value of the players we have, and so could not move any of them for what WE felt was a reasonable return, as such the play might have been to hang on...
  12. yeah I get that, but Danny is also in a tough spot where he has to please the fans and the shareholders, so to speak, interest in the team has been at an all time low, i remember hearing clips from Philly sports radio where they wouldn't even talk about the Flyers, and when someone did, another person would essentially say that they were irrelevant compared to the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers... so making the playoffs would generate some excitement, from the fans and the accountants, but at the same time, he knows he can't go "all in" because the team is still not in a position to do that, it would be a waste and set them back yet again... and I get the sense that hanging on to Seeler and Laughton was more about Torts...since from day one Torts always spoke highly of them...and those guys seem to be the model of what Torts wants in his players/team...on paper it sucks that we couldn't get anything for them, but their value, it would seem, is not related to their on ice performance per se...
  13. https://www.nhl.com/flyers/player/egor-zavragin-8484398 damn....impressive!!! here's hoping that most of those numbers translate as he makes his way through the ranks
  14. but the good news is that Danny B. will still have the last word...I'm good with that
