  1. The ownership needs and wants playoff dollars, they will not just let things implode further unless there is a way to drive Bryz out of town and look long term at getting his dollars out of here and losing playoff money this year by keeping him in They will make some kind of move in the net They are exactly in the same spot they were one year ago except Leighton is in the AHL otherwise it would be the same, dejavu indeed
  2. And I thought this was about to lead me to a sarcastic remark about the forwards gambling with passes, committing too deep and getting burned with bad turnovers.......
  3. If the franchise would stop all the glitzy marketing and overhype and call the season what it is, its easier to take growing pains for what they are-----REBUILDING & seeing what the kids can do. Of course the overhype is necessary to pump up people that are not thrilled by the game itself (or need prompting to applaud or cheer) Same old over decibeled level rock song cliches & applause o meter type nonsense Once you spend any money on it, as a consumer/fan its hard to enjoy the season for what it is, since the biggest signing appears to be a bust and the prior biggest deal player is unfortunately appearing to have his career ending from injury. Yea Poulin, if they had won even 2 of 5 from the Rangers it would be a bit different eh?
  4. Hmmm either they will have sneaked out a first round win (if they go to a lower standing and meet the Panthers) and be depleted with injuries with no chance of getting past the second round or they will have lost the first round after losing home ice to the Pens who fall into 4 th or an even worse matchup against Boston or NYR in the first Here are the quotes I predict We need better goaltending and end to the goalie roulette We need a #1 stud dman Please feel free to predict quotes and we can revisit this after the first round
  5. The team is doing well but the management of the team in these game heavy stretches is wrong What is wrong with learning to situationally play shut down hockey when you are missing you # 1 D and trying to get points? Its like when you are short guys on the bench you would play dump and wait essentially I know Lavi made a point of embarrassing Tampa for doing the 1-3-1 at the start of a game ( and ended up losing to them as well, ironic) But instead of just managing players time, manage the SYSTEM according the fatigue level and acknowledge the need for more points. The Debbies and Pens are coming on now and are nipping at the teams heels Slipping down to 7 or 8 and playing Boston or NYR first round isnt going to bode well for the Comcast Enterprise to make money on playoff games and thats ALL this whole thing is about. We are just cannon fodder to be squeezed for $$.
  6. This team will not win the cup too much to fix this year As I mentioned in earlier in another post there is not the defensive depth and I think the goalie situation is horrendous If I was coach I would tell the GM Get me a veteran goalie who could share an equal load of games and lets just try to get as deep as we can for experience(meaning someone sits and I am not sure which one of russian roulette bullets it is) Get me some defensive help thats temporary and not at great cost, reduce the minutes of of the rooks on D I would put the team in a friggin hotel for home games and get them in the road mentality I would go hunting the others teams stars if they hunted ours I would make the team play a 1-3-1 if they had a lead going into the 3rd period or were tied against certain teams when there is a long tough string of back to back games like 4 in 5 nights or 5 in 7 or 7 in 10 Lavi goes pedal to the metal with a team thats too young with a d thats too thin with uncertain goaltending I would practice the shootout more and put the best shooters in or guys that had not been seen by the goalie that had tricks This team is 7 points away from the NYR The problem is the coach not ADJUSTING to the situation when he does not have the horses or goalie or the team is exhausted Sounds like Andy Reid but its LAVI I accept this is a young group of forwards learning to play together, but I dont think the team as a whole are managed properly in terms of system vs time on ice with mutliple games and you know what -they are a little too small and not MEAN enough to wear down the other team
  7. Reflecting back on the last 7 years or so Hitch would have won the cup with the 03-04 Flyers with one more defenseman or one less commissioner screwing the Flyers ( and ultimately the Flames) so that a southern team could win the cup Hitch lost a year and then was faced with a new set of rules and many new players and some young ones who tuned him out and got him fired. In walks John Stevens who cant coach his way out of a wet paper bag and coddles the players and has no system. They sorta rise from the ashes on talent alone and being young whatever, a few veteran presences (Jason Smith and Knuble) and a sorta goalie in Biron. Finally the young ones screw Stevens and his lack of system or a system so totally not at the NHL level and Lavi comes in and they have a miracle year with Emery sidelined & Leighton and Boucher in the nets but fall a few goals short in the finals, again one of the young guns choking with an empty net high Lavi won the first cup post lockout in a world of new rules that to be brutally frank, are totally different from year to year, when coming near a player would be a penalty, we all know what 05-06 and 06-07 were like in the early fix it for Crosby era. Lavi was the beneficiary of a a lot of things in 05-06 In my mind now looking at how well the St Louis Blues are doing with Hitch with a bit less talent (& a good goalie in Halak)than their record indicates, he was the best of the recent bunch of coaches & maybe that 03-04 team was a lot better than we ever thought and Esche was a better goalie than anything thats been here since. He was the team USA goalie for many years in international play over that period and kept the teams in the game. He was not that bad for us post lockout, more internal coach vs goalie thing. I think Hitch was and is a better coach than Lavi , better systems guy, better prepraration etc. Carter & Richards are coach killers, and Richards may be the better all around player but I still hate him, for his lousy play right before Hitch was fired. All he would do is come down the wing and take a slapshot right into the goalies glove/pad.
  8. The only thing getting challenged this year is the resolve of the players who have to try and overcome his psychotic goaltending game in & out and the fans wasting time and $$ watching tghe garbage There is a saying about the old Soviet union and workers "they pretend to pay us & we pretend to work" well hes getting paid and still pretending to work somewhere in his cosmos of his existence Solaris again
  9. This team is not winning the cup this year or going to the finals , so its merely a matter of trying to go deeper in the playoffs for the franchise to make more $. That is all there is, except for experience for the rookies Leighton has these stretches of excellence and some of mediocrity. The playoffs are about catching lightning in a bottle. If any of us were paid like Bryz and were as poor in our jobs performance we would be dumped a lot quicker. There are too many fundamentally poor & horribly inattentive stretches of goaltending from him.
  10. Its Russian Roulette with these goalies............................................................
  11. duhhh of course I did not look past the skaters Yep Pelle That is such a hard thing to reflect on all these years later. I remember getting in the car for my Sunday AM ice time and hearing about his accident on the radio
  12. Hexie Mark Howe McCrimmon Marsh Erickson Dvorak Crossman Hospodar Bryz Timmonen Coburn Mezjaros Carle Lilja Gustaffson Bordoun No comparision for sure
  13. I think Leighton if healthy(even without Pronger) can be better than Bryz is Of course that is not saying much. I dont know if someone would claim him if we tried to bring him up-can someone else chime in on that But I would rather take my chances with Leighton and Bob alternatng starts than this Dr; Jekelovich/Mr Hydeogav He is not the answer. Consistent as ameobic dysenterry Yes I would give Leights a shot and get some 2nd tier d help ( Gill/Sutton/Whatever) I dont think Walker is the guy
  14. Maybe its strictly a move for the Phantoms and really nothing more for a little more scoring. Also think about clearing number of contracts for next year
  15. I think for Holmgren its like hitting the ultra high buy it now price for something on ebay when he makes those deals
  16. aziz, what you said highest paid #42 in save % Trying to find his inner child Ever see the Russian SCI FI move called Solaris the original not the remake with George Clooney Bryz is Solaris, a weird saga made from his mind
  17. We are screwed this season unless he misbehaves verbally as I said in another post However, I am looking past this season and hoping he finds himself again or he will find himself somewhere else Maybe he needs some mind & consciousness altering drugs to find himself Turn on the lava light, put on the Doors and say hello to Timothy Leary Might improve his game B)
  18. Helps that the Rangers played Toronto the night before and shot their load then
  19. Ah yes its time again for the war of words between the rich men and corporations whose teams are playthings as much as they are profit centers/tax loss writeoff centers. Frankly I like the fact Donald Fehr is there to ruffle the physical and mental midget commissioners feathers as well. The only downside is he is going to try and protect jobs in markets that are LOSERS and exist on league subsidies or ownership Now I feel better and on to the real issue Sane people will pretty much expect Pronger to be done and something to have to be done with the space cowboy goalie Based on the fact that the everyone knows the CBA is 1) Wholly inadequate relating to over 35 years old contract players injuries/retirment 2) It previously allowed one time buyouts 3) Player movement between NHL/AHL due to AHL vets salaries restriction is problematic 4) Too limiting in regards to maximum number of player contracts with growing numbers of injuries What do you think will happen that will benefit the Flyers in the new CBA or renewal of some existing terms in the CBA
  20. " god, 8 more seasons" I dont think so. He will be back in the KHL or some other hockey outpost if he doesnt turn it around They will find a way and raise the costs of tickets and concessions and parking and cable tv to bury their mistake in the fans wallets
  21. Yeah, you know its like a kid with a fast car that doesnt know how to handle it My wifes late father worked on a rocket in the 50's that was so fast they couldnt control it with tube technology, it was called the ramjet. Sort of like Carter, except he is just a bottle rocket that always goes in a circle, like orbiting the earth Ground control to Major Jeff.......................................... Coots is like a young Top Gun IMO
  22. I dont know if Roo is embellishing. I guess since the little buffoon running the league doesnt want the Flyers to win, one of the leagues brightest stars from the North American continent does not get the same calls/protective calls they would normally give one of the top scorers in the league. I turned off last nights game after the 2nd goal by the Preds. It was a hometown Saturday night for the refs IMO Rinne was great no doubt and Bryz was his usual self Thats another topic but this was a western conference team and he should have done better knowing them, I am sick of excuses from the space cowboy
  23. He was also arrested in Vero Beach Fla for heroin possession........... Needle freak?
  24. SOUTH JERSEY MAN TURNS HIMSELF IN GLASSBORO NJ NOT EVEN FROM PHILLY HAS A POLICE RECORD READ BELOW HOT OFF THE E-PRESS A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the beating of two New York Rangers fans outside Geno's Steaks after the Winter Classic hockey game on Jan. 2. Dennis Veteri, of Glassboro, was released early today after posting 10 percent of $50,000 bail, according to court records. He is charged with 2 counts each of aggravated assault, conspiracy aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment, the records show. Police are looking for other alleged assailants in the beating, which was caught on video and posted online. Two Rangers fans who were wearing team jerseys were injured in the attack outside the South Philadelphia landmark eatery. The assault resulted in the hospitalization of Neal Auricchio, an off-duty Woodbridge, N.J., police officer and Iraq war veteran who suffered a concussion and required numerous stitches. An edited, police-version of the video shows a Flyers fan in a Claude Giroux jersey throwing the first punch. Court records show that Veteri has been sentenced to probation for aggravated assault and drugs possession in Philadelphia in the past.
