It is weird that the team with the highest percentage chance to get the #1 overall got the #1 overall.

Who could have predicted such a thing?

Conspiracy talk fits a loser franchise.

"We would have won the lottery, but it's fixed".

"We would have won but the refs were against us."

"We would have won a Cup, but our goaltending."

Chicago played the game the Flyers and their fans wouldn't.  We'll see what they have won in a couple years.

I'm betting they're better than the Flyers inside of two years.  Everyone will point to the lottery, but as I posted a couple weeks ago, they have tons of assets coming and their cap situation will be all fixed by the time they arrive.  They are swollowing their medicine, while the Flyers, like a freaking baby, are trying to spit theirs out.

Not saying the Flyers would have won or even deserved to get Bedard. All I am saying is it's a little weird Bedard going to Chicago is the best for the league, and shazam it happens. Makes one go hmmm.

He has one more year after this under contract your best bet is to go ahead and move him now but don't let Chuckles broker that deal (I'm pretending we're getting a new GM) let the new GM do it.

Sure I know risky letting Danny B. make a big move like that for one of his first big trades but I promise lack of experience or not he would do better than Chuck.

But seriously you have to consider moving Hart for a nice return and going with Ersson and Sandstrom next year in the rebuild year.

Yes I know we have to suspend disbelief to think they will do a full rebuild but it needs to be done.

And Hart isn't alone. Might as well move TK too.

Agreed, move Hart and TK while you can or they will jump ship as soon as their contracts are up and I wouldn't blame them one bit.

The **** show that is the Flyers are going nowhere in the next 5 years.

I didn't watch but it seems the Howie58 Formula for a Flyers win applied: 1) A stand-on-head goaltending performance; 2) some defense; and 3) we score more than 3 goals.  Wash, rinse, repeat.

The highlights had Weegar's hit on TK.  I agree with Grateful; that looked like a penalty.

Definitely a penalty. The Flames got away with a shitload of missed calls.

    That wasn't his run.

The Shift was two years later.

They committed an entire decade because of one shift after trading two guys they committed an entire decade to after exhaustively researching everything about them.

    No, really.

Well, OK, because committing the future of the franchise to a 34 year old defenceman didn't work out.

    No, really.

    #legendary #halloffame

    :hocky:

Who was the idiot GM that traded those two guys?

Our 30 goal scorer was drafted by Hextall.

Fletchers impact on the team is his ability to lose every trade he makes, terrible, and I mean terrible cap management, constantly throwing away draft picks, and just generally looking like he doesn't have a clue how to build a hockey team. Which he doesn't.

Five years after taking over a Flyer team on the playoff bubble, Fletchers has them in the same position, but in total cap hell.

No way in hell is this team on the playoff bubble.

Ok, I'm on my 4th pint of an excellent double New England IPA with flavors of mango and peaches from the "Brasseurs du Monde", so I'm asking for your tolerance and comprehensiveness. Let's see this in these possibilities:

Assumption #1: Oilers fail to reach the postseason AND win the lottery.

This will lead in a reminiscence of the Oilers' decade story for the reach of the Stanley Cup. So there are two options there:

    1.1: Bedard turns to be the next Nail Yakupov and they lose him for nothing with Bedard going to play somewhere near the Kamtchatka region and ask for mercy, or;

1.2: The Oilers trade him in Tampa Bay for Erik Cernak and a conditional sixth, which opens the door to an additional 15 years of sucking at every level for the Oil.

Assumption #2: Chicago finish dead last and won the lottery.

Nah, screw that! The Hawks already had their dynasty in the 2010s, they deserve to rot for 10+ years in the basement. On the other hand, I'd love to hate them and hate Bedard for their next success.

Assumption #3: Arizona, here we go.

I'd LOVE that. With their 34 first round choices, The Coyotes build a dynasty, won the next three Stanley Cups while having their new facility in Tempe and Gary Bettman makes a special tour in Canada from Vancouver to St. John Newfoundland, showing his butt and yelling: "See mo*****ckers, Told you it will be successful!!"

    Assumption #4: Anaheim got it!

Nooooo, sounds like a bad remake of a ****** movie coming straight from the early 1990s...

Assumption #5: whatever other team who won the lottery

And they say: "screw that, he's a bust, let's take another random guy" in a very Wrightesque way.

Are you sure you are only on your 4th pint?

You want to see a creative offensive player learning the ropes under Tortorella?

Bedard is going to need major adjustments to his game at NHL level and Torts is exactly the kind of coach who would bench him for creativity. He can do it. His shot is beyond elite and his vision and passing are also elite. But he is 5 foot 9 and isn't going to be going through NHL level defenders like this right off the bat.

If he can land on PP1 for whatever team he lands on and get icetime, maybe 50-60 points his rookie season. I think its going to take a few years before he is elite and hope he can grow another inch or 2(Doubtful)

The way I see it is Fletcher gets fired halfway through this season. The new GM fires Torts and brings in his own HC.

When you have his hockey sense and talent 5'9" is enough. But I agree it will take him a couple years to adjust to the NHL game, but remember the kid is only 17.

So they going to let him screw them over one more time before the trade deadline?

Dumbest shi t I ever seen from this team or one of the dumbest thing.

I would can him and let Danny audition for the the job till the end of the season see where he is really at before just handing him the keys.

I say keep the idiot till the end of the season..........after all he is the best chance of getting in on the Bedard sweepstakes.

  10. The team played hard, I never saw too many players take a shift off. The Defense played a lot better than all of last season, yeah there were a few blunders and giveaways but over all much better.

Carter Hart......he gave up a couple stinkers tonight but he also made some great saves. The kid needs to get his confidence back and tonight might have been the start of that journey for him.

Another thing I noticed and liked was there were some set plays from faceoffs and also some set break out plays from their own end.

One thing about Torts is his teams will always put in the effort, yeah there is still plenty to work on.

Don't get me wrong this is still a bad team and will be hard pressed to make a big improvement over last year.

But hey we are 1-0....so there is that.
