  1. but so does the salary in terms of cap hit right? So what I guess I don't get is why 1mil salary and $13mil signing bonus... why not just call it $14 mil salary for '12.
  2. front-laodin' and here I thought this was a thread about havin' sex with a girl the "normal way" thanks for the post though, nice clean breakdown. I am confused and hopefully someone can explain, what's with the low salary and REALLY high bonus'. I apologize in advance for not really knowing the way these contracts work, all I usually look for is "what's the cap hit?"
  3. WHAT!?!?! I don't believe it! thank god! (last statement is predicated on him donning the O&B)
  4. I had no idea until I read this.... I had to confirm and found, much to my dismay, that you were correct. Such a shame, those suckers were awesome
  5. this cracks me up a tad. forwards who think defensively, offensive minded defenseman (waaah, they lost Carle) can't the Flyers just go after players who play their position?
  6. me too! me too! me too! well said! with girl lips Going to a game is such a wallet rape it's ridiculous. The cheapest seats in the house make you second guess if it's worth taking the family down... that same money could fund a modest vacation, like a day trip to the beach and en evening on the boardwalk. Fortunately I'm already a cable subscriber so the games aren't an added cost to watch on TV but I know that doesn't apply to everyone. At the end of the day another work stoppage won't chase me away for good, though it will certainly be frustrating. The sport itself must be naive to it's place in the world. It needs a lot of work if it's going to compete with the other big 3 (4 if you count NASCAR). A work stoppage will not help the sport in general and that hurts all parties.
  7. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/363647/20120716/nhl-referee-murder-draft-pick-scurko-liptag.htm i don't remember hearing about this guy back then... messed up though
  8. sweet! last year's Cup was won by an 8th seed!!! that said, I think you might be right about Hartnell. I'm not sure how much stock I want to put into the D contributing on offense. Unless it's point shots or sweet breakaway feeds, I think I'd be more interested in them making sure they don't get beat on the transition or just shore up the D overall before worrying about jumping in on the play. you are probably on to something more than I, however, last off season looked bleak in the scoring dept. and I/we were pleasantly surprised... I'm hoping we are all surprised once again!
  9. d? yes, i agree o? no, don't agree. we traded away a ton of scoring last summer and low and behold, others stepped up. with lavy's approach, i wouldn't be surprised if others stepped up again this year. of course i base this on pure speculation but i just don't feel as if they are in as bad a shape as some worry. I feel like last summer we lost more up front than we did this summer.
  10. i agree. i liked his season and hope they resign him, but it is definitely too early to be throwing around big bucks, many years or both. give him a decent short contract and let him earn the big contract. one decent season isn't enough
  11. indeed, negotiating 101 incredibly laughable... not even serious enough to be a distraction from what they might really want. Entertaining for us though.
  12. haha, gotcha loud and clear
  13. significantly easier! softies and late game meltdowns don't sting nearly as much!
  14. ugh, I hate front loaded contracts. All they are good for is getting cap hits down in the beginning of deals but at the end it's excruciating. Plus, where's the motivation in the end to try to put up 4.5 mil effort when the actual salary is only a fraction of that? that said, it wouldn't surprise me either....
  15. I would love to have seen how he would have done last year with him being the starter as opposed to playing once every 15 games. I also think that once he saw Bryzaster, he may have been licking his chops at the possibility of stealing the job which could have added a little extra pressure to win the few games he was in. The fact that he caved is a problem but our lack of D was a big reason for that as well. Bottom line, it wasn't even close to an ideal situation for a second year goalie who needed to adjust to the NHL schedule and I think things would've/ could've been much different (read, better) had he been the starting goalie from the get go. If he was and was crap it wouldn't have been much different from the season we got any way last year, the only difference is now we don't know what we could have had with Bob had he been groomed properly. A real shame for sure for this fan, I was really looking forward to the Flyers finally having a home grown (sorta) goalie.
  16. @Hexy27 @doom88 I agree with both of you. having just come off a situation like JVRs, I'd be hesitant to give a player a deal that overpays him for accomplishments that haven't happened yet. Give the guy a deal that keeps him motivated towards earning that BIG paycheck. At the same time, with a player like Jake, it does feel a tad safer giving him deal now that while it looks like a little bit of an over payment now if he doesn't improve, could be a steal later if he ends up tearing it up. Tough call with this guy for sure. Given who this guy projects to play with, he might be willing to take a deal slightly more favorable to the Flyers. The one thing I don't want to see is anything too long. I also like @PhilsFanDrew idea of a short deal that relatively nice. two years at just under 4 per? that's reasonable for both parties AND give both parties an opportunity to see what the deal is. If has a solid 2 years? he earns a nice bump. He doesn't? no biggie, didn't hurt too bad to begin with AND still keeps things relatively low in time for next off season moves.
  17. great point! that'd be great if they could. Lock him up for less per year. I mean, I know they have plenty of cap space to give him more but they can save what they can and make next off season moves that much easier!
  18. haha, of course not! it was interesting though to see they were top rated. I'd have assumed all Canadian teams and all the teams north of Philadelphia would automatically have an edge due to colder climates.
  19. I saw footage on the news of these guys carrying each other on their backs on the beach. it was on in the back ground and I didn't have the volume up load to see what it was. I have DVR on the tv I was watching so I rewound it a little cause it looked odd to see all these grown men playing like that on the beach. that had to kill, running in the sand is hard enough much less while carrying another 180lbs on your back thanks for the updates
  20. haha, whenever I think of this guy, one thing (among many) that pop in my head is this vid. y'all seen it?
