  1. @ radoran i can't help but seeing nodl's career arc as similar to ruslan fedotenko's... he'll go to a team and contribute toward making that team a winner. you need guys like nodl always around the puck, are not afraid to hit a guy, and can play the pk while chipping in with the 12-20 goals and 20 helpers. too bad we got nothing in return. totally agree about shelley good guy in the room or whatever he doesn't make the team better or at the very least harder to play against. he loves the game though so maybe he sticks with the organization in a different capacity.
  2. definitely have to be the "right" package. but moving those guys for helps with the cap, no question, as much as i like daniel briere, he has the resume to pry a young d prospect and provide cap relief. same with timmonen, i'd be sad to see him in a different sweater but he'd bring back a nice return.
  3. @ jm and irish the kid is clocking the A. i can think of 3 forwards from the healthy top 9 that i'd rather see schenn than. i want to see him healthy and with a line mate for more than 5 shifts... you know. we traded our captain for him not simmonds, i want to see whats up, he's big , got skills can't do any worse in the face off circle than what we've got , him and mono kid give us some size down the middle
  4. @ terp, 87 put a couple decent cross checks together there too, the elbow (from watching the replay) was high, but to me it was in the course of already cheating with the cross checks and jockeying for position, he didn't line foligno up for 4 strides and smashing him with it... it's a physical game that one got away from him... i do agree though that he if he wants to play the game hard in the areas of the ice where that **** happens, then he needs to protect himself and not get bitchy when he gets clocked. and if he's worried about his brain's health then he needs to adjust his game and become more of a perimeter player. jeff carter could give lessons.
  5. @ brelic, i didn't have HBO last year so i didn't see that, and i'm basing my opinion of the guy based on public appearances, so he was on his good behavior, however, being a media type i had access to him prior to and after the events and he was kind to everyone. now, that said i wasn't in the locker room and didn't play for him so it could be he was a douche to his players, but he did not have the "douche" vibe otherwise.
  6. wow right after boudreau became the quickest coach to 200 wins in team history. well i always liked Bruce, he's a good guy , a buddy of mine worked with him in Hershey; and i met him at some charity stuff, he's a class act and a good hockey man. i'm glad he got a chance to coach in the bigs. big surprise, though, i guess all those euro players need a different voice to help them learn to back check, change when called and not pout.
  7. not sure i would put simmonds on danny's wing, i don't think he has the hands, at least i haven't seen it from him yet. 48 plays better when he's got guys near his ability level with him; he's a sniper, finds the soft spot in the d, he needs a creative guy with him to get max production. he's not a mike richards type whose game, when he plays it, is simple and can tolerate guys like carcillo and nodl.
  8. looks like i'll get my wish and see if marc-andre can play in the NHL... too bad Gustavsson is on the rack this would be a good time to get him some starts....
  9. before the chairman retires, i think yes this team might actually blow 45 million dollars to rid itself of a bad deal. the flyers have got to be in the top 5 in terms of revenue league wide...it would be a hit financially but at $7 bucks for a coke they'll make that up in a week
  10. @ aziz and terp i wonder what kind of motivation the towel and touk would foster in Bryzgalov, so far , limited sampling i know, i'm not sure that he doesn't go into the tank if he's benched. then what ? 9 years of malcontent head case
  11. can you say buy out... especially with the new cba coming and a chance to dump some bad ones... we've got a couple
  12. i agree with a lot of what you are laying down here. i also think having sharp around would have been helpful to richards and carter from a maturation standpoint, he is just a little older than those guys but would have had some credibility with them from a team/ hockey skills stand point, & a poon chasing standpoint he could have lessened the rush to promote richards to captain since he would have been the leader of the young group... i really think had hitch not buried him at the end of the bench the make up of the roster would look different today, and maybe there's some better banners hanging from the rafters.
  13. @ bertmega glad to see i'm not the only one that sees the resemblance...
  14. what ? he's got 3 pts in the 2 games without jagr.
  15. @terp well in Marshall's case slow and stupid is no way to make it to the show... my thought with these guys is once Gus gets healthy he should play, and play a lot; even at the expense of Lilja or Walker, he has upside to develop, at this point Lilja is what he is same with Walker, and if Bourdon is close , why not dress him for a couple of games as a 7 and give him some NHL minutes and see if he rises to the challenge. that way when 20 is not able to dress we have options that know Lavy's "system" and we can roll 3 pairings instead of shortening the bench.
  16. i remember the book on bourdon coming out was a chris letang type player, puck mover, good shot, won't hose you because he's thinking offense. i remember people on the forum being pretty high on him. i also remember the book on marshall was his skating needed to improve and um well, sounds like that's not happening.
  17. for me it's been bryzgalov... i thought he'd roll in and be solid, don't worry about the young guys you get me four and we'll win...i guess he needs to work into form or something, and while some the goals he's had some bad bounces and /or no chance , he doesn't appear to compete to make saves when there's a bunch of bodies in the crease, and that is disturbing as that's what we'll see when the games start to mean something. you want your big dollar keeper to be set it and forget it thus far this hasn't been the case
  18. Hi, I asked this in another thread and was pretty sure the question was going to go unanswered... so who saw these guys last night and what were your impressions ? do they have a future in the NHL or are they maybe # 7s on a good defense ? either of these two make any kind of impression... and what would be the big whoop with playing them now ? thx
  19. @ mmer. you are underestimating the chairman and his desire to ice a winning team, carter and richards are considered top tier talent , homer wasn't going to just salary dump them, ala gagne. he needed to get players back who could contribute or mr snider would have his scalp.
  20. i thought sid looked freakin' awesome, lots of jump and compete, didn't shy from contact, still has sick skill. i thought nbc sports coverage of him was borderline creepy. the studio host with milbury and jonesy was so breathless he sounded like he was dealing with some wood or something... "oh my he's got 7 minutes of ice time will he be okay ?" jonesy was just rolling his eyes at that douche. the guy is 24 he'll be fine...
  21. so who saw the game and what are your thoughts on Bourdon and Marshall ? i'll say this having never seen either of them, if they're our best homegrown prospects on defense, then why not play them now and see whether or not they can cut it in the bigs ... or do they not have the ability ? who's got a take
  22. i have a suspicion he's getting used to his new more muscular frame as well, i spent most of my youth as a skinny athlete when i was in my 20 and 30's my body changed, partially because i worked on it in the gym but also i physically matured. after adding my 20 lbs of muscle (over years ) i did not feel near as quick and wasn't sure what to do with the new found strength and power. eventually about a season, i figured it out and all of my athletic endeavors, volleyball , tennis, and golf saw improvement but while i was getting used my new self i felt heavy footed, and slow to react. perhaps some of this is going on with JvR since he spent the summer pulling ford 150's around in parking lots...
  23. while i agree that Harry Z has played pretty well and Rinaldo has been a total pleasant surprise with the skill he brings with his edge, they are not the guys you traded your captain for . Brayden Schenn he's that guy, by the time he got hurt he was starting to look comfortable, since it was only his 4th game i'd like to see a little more of what he can do.... i think i've read he cam play right wing , plus as awful as this team is on faceoffs wouldn't it be a good idea to see if 10 can help there ? the swoon that occured on his first call up was on bryzgalov not being able to stop a beach ball, not schenn. the jagr giroux hartnell line hadn't come together yet either it's a long grind let's get the blue chipper some quality nhl ice time , see what he can do before we have to rely on him due to an injury.

    Bob?

do you really think that ? i mean that they had Harry Z on the first line ?? um there's probably room in the roster for schenn if we're sliding Harry Z up to the first line. just saying.
