  1. kind of lost a little respect for Dan Blysma after reading his quote about the flyers targeting guys after the whistle... i mean it's not like his guys ever do that. he's got 2 or 3 of the worst guys in the league with cooke, kunitz and malkin on his roster and they're all in the running for the lady byng...

i wonder if he says that if the game went to a shootout and they get the extra point plus it was his team that jumped hartnell in the 3rd, neal, kunitz i think i saw the breck girl letang in that scuffle... getting driven out by G no less... man i love it when that team loses... made even better when they get beat.

it tells me the future is looking pretty bright, provided we can figure a way to keep all these guys in the fold. schenn is a good player and looks like a natural born flyer.

    @Vanflyer

thanks for the capology work. the only guy i knew about being a free agent was voracek and i knew we could match or be compensated for him. what's nice is he seems to really like his teammates and situation here so hopefully that weighs in on any decisions he makes, i like his game a lot especially now that he's started to lookf for his shot a little more.

  3. the flyers were shorthanded for 4 minutes towards the end of the first, they killed off the penalties but were back on their heels ,from it... the Pen's took advantage and really put on a lot of pressure with their forecheck, they dictated play and the few chances the flyers had in the period didn't find the net. watching it i didn't feel like the Pens had a whole lot of quality chances but they had some, and they had the puck in our zone for much of the period and really did a good job of harrassing our d... their forecheck in the 2nd was excellent, and they played like a team that had won 11 straight.

in the 3rd the refs called a few penalties 2 on Malkenstien for his stickwork that turned the tide, the pens were then back on their heels and we dictated the play, wellwood, jagr, voracek, were our best players for the whole 60, giroux picked it up in the 3rd after a good first period, bryzgalov was excellent, the goals that were scored on him were an excellent effort from malkenstien, and a fluky deflection off adams and then manning, who, crap, plays well...

it was a good win, the refs were just bad , which in my book is good for refs ,but they're refs so they can't ever be good. ;) they missed the boat on the hartnell fiasco in the 3rd i'm pretty sure kunitz is serial rapist when he's not douc hing it up in the NHL.

  4. i don't mind pierre mcguire he's a fan of giroux's, or that NBC team that much, after listening to those jack holes in boston yesterday this was a pleasant viewing experience.

i think doc emreric had a bad business dealing with the flyers, so he may never be able to fully sound unbiased, that's just human nature. as for eddie olczyick there are worse guys around, chico resch anyone ?

that group is more "pro sid" than anything, and they are charged with voicing the primary game in the american market, so GB with his "superstar" model from the NBA days is probably setting policy to pump the faces' tires. i think those guys are in a tough spot and do a pretty good job of selling the game for the most part.

i am a fan of joe benniatti though, i like dave stader too, i'll tell you who i miss, gary thorne/ bill clement and steve levy/ daren pang from espn ,those were two very good hockey announce teams... i also really like the hnic guys too.

  5. the funny thing about malkin's goal was if he just keeps his pad flat to the ice he stops it, i'm pretty sure , he was pretty sure malkinstein was going to try to lift the puck. it was good work from 71 he definitely outmuscled 28 there and made a pretty sick move through the crease, but bryz is going so well he almost stopped that. agreed that this kind of play is what i was expecting. good for 30.

i like it when we beat that team. but they are pretty good and when they're on their forechekc game they create a lot of pressure. i still think a team with good depth can beat them. like we saw today.

  6. momentum is such an odd thing, those back to back penalties the flyers killed off in later half of the first period really changed the complexion of the game, prior to that the play was entertaining and pretty even ; after that, the Pens forecheck was really effective both because they worked hard but also because we quit attacking, we were really lucky that Bryz was so solid today, that second period was painful to watch, thank goodness for wellwood and jagr, at times it seemed like the pens were skating with an extra guy. then the back to back penalties on d ouchey mcMalkenstien swung the momentum toward the flyers who were the better team in the 3rd.

with the exception of the hartnell fiasco at the end i thought the zebras only stank today.

  7. I used to like Kunitz allot when he played for the Ducks. Thought he was a hard working / gritty player. Yet since he has been with pittsburgh, it seems like he has these sporadic instances of malice (or maybe just when he plays the Flyers).

running timmonen and sticking out his leg to make sure he didn't miss in the playoffs kind of sealed it for me as to what kind of character he has....

i hate to say it but that whole team is a bunch of jack jawing cheapshot artists...& i was glad to see malkin block that shot with his knee, after bringing his stick up on couterier's twig and berries. can't stand that team. i hope we don't finsh 4/5.

  8. I don't remember seeing that blatant disrespect forward another player for quite a while. It was 4 on 1 at one point, Was Hartsy even upright for any of the Kunitz business ? I'm thinking there's going to be some score settling twixt those two , that fight wasn't even a fight. It was a mugging. I hate Kunitz , his true colors are coming through . Feminine cleansing agent.

  9. @AlaskaFlyerFan

I think the James Wisnewski signing is going to f us in regards to resigning Carle, that guy got 6 years 33 million from Columbus... I think Carle is a better player, I think a lot of GM's probably think they are very similar at least....is he worth Wisnewski money ?

If CBJ doesn't pull that crap we might be able to keep him around for 5.5... now i'm not so sure.

  10. No Del Zotto or Callahan either. Still, I'll take it.

the Rangers were totally healthy through much of the year unlike your team and our team, Unless Lundquist plays lights out, which lets face it he can, they aren't this great juggernaut that will lay waste to the east. they are a good defensively sound to the point of sacrificing offensive team, they were one injury to a top 6 forward away from being just okay.

now your team getting 87 and whatever Letang's number is back , that's a different story, now the staal factor can be in full effect, now your team has good depth. I don't know if i'm jumping off a bridge if my team doesn't win this weekend, there are still a lot of games to play until this stuff really matters, my hope is the teams don't finish 4/5 because then we're each looking at a potential 9 game series that will have a winner but also a steep price, in terms of health and the ability to win the next series.

  11. I feel like I'm starting to notice Schenn's toughness and willingness to become a leader. I wish he'd show it more, but he's coming along.

schenn is one of the few forwads league wide that has been able to play malkenstien evenly, schenn has enough size, skates as well and seems to think like Malkin so he's usually where Malkin is going. between him and courturier i think we have a couple of really good 2 way centermen in the fold for years to come.

  12. actually @Bakanekimiwa i'm okay with NBC sports showing that game, on its face its the hottest team in the east vs the points leader with less than 15 games left, so it is a big game.

now, i totally agree that all the breathless hyperbole that we will be subjected to regarding a good players return from injury is way over the top... the fact that the NHL network led NHL tonight with 87 in a practice sweater instead the 5 games in the evening with direct playoff implications or Steven Stamkos' 50th goal was a jjoke,

your topic thread is very funny though spot on :D

  13. i think that's probably right, the only other guy i can think of would be, as others have mentioned, Stamkos, his back is going to be sore after carrying that team around for a 3/4th of a year.

malkin has been terrific, and terrifically ugly.

i don't think Giroux is playing at Malkin's level right now, when 71 is on the ice, much like when 66 was on the ice in the late 80's you think he's going to score, or at least do something you've never seen before..

    Malkin would get my vote.

  14. I think he's too good for them to get worse with him in the lineup. those stiffs that will be playing on his line won't believe the passes from god that will wind up on their tape. i mean the 87 elevated chris kunitz's game to where kunitz is now considered an elite power forward

what's weird though is he and malkenstien do not feed off each other, so i expect 71 to cool off a bit it Crosby stays in the line-up.

  15. So what the hey-ho with the cryptic injury reporting during the regular season ?

I haven't seen anything about what is wrong with this guy, knee , ankle, quad strain, is it even a "lower body injury" . the flyers have better message discipline than the early Bush 43 white house.

what's his prognosis ? is there one ? and what about Kubina, i know he took a puck to the face vs Washington but whats the deal with him ?

  16. All true Knuckles, just tired of the Devils having our number for the last 15 years...and I would also add that Lavy resting Bryz didn't help the cause.....I mean if you're going to give the guy off one night of back to back road games, why it would be against NJ and not the Laffs is beyond me

if the concept is to instill confidence doesn't it make sense to play the hot guy against the team that is struggling to build that even more, rather than on night 2 against one of the hottest teams in the league after a late flight when the skaters might be fatigued.

i hate losing the the devils nearly as much as losing to the fing pens but i don't fault Laviolette for trying to keep Bryz's tires pumped for max performance.

  17. the broons only had 15 guys on the bench in the 3rd.

the pens fore check was really effective, they're playing some good ball right now,

with 87 coming back this week they could be a tough match up. although i still think their 2nd and 3rd lines are lacking talent on the wing, but they're getting the job done now. that was a good win for them vs a depleted broons squad.

  18. with out trying to sound like too much of an apologist.

the whole missing 2 of your top 4 d-men and 3 of your top 9 forwards was bound to catch up ...that Flyers have been as competitive as they have speaks pretty well for them.

also the Devlis are probably the hottest team in the east over the last month and a half, they've been playing some really good hockey.

I don't think it's time to fire all things and trade everyone or really to be overly alarmed, put together 3 in a row like last night... then i might start feeling some concern. but that hasn't happend all year.
