Mason to me is a reclamation project here just like Emery was. I don't like how we bring in these guys hoping they turn it around somehow. When have we seen a reclamation project from any team become a franchise goalie? I do hope I'm wrong but I doubt Mason will be one, he looks to me like a inconsistent goalie and you never know what you will get from year to year. I much rather have a young highly touted goalie and give him a chance to take the job then have to sit here and hope one of these free agent goalie that other teams don't want will lead us to the Cup. Franchise goalies are not to be found on the market just like a franchise defenseman we still seeking here. To me you have to take a chance on these young guys and let them develop, if we let other teams develop them then we would have to pay a premium to acquire them or have no chance at all or until they are 35 years old.

For those of you that are happy we didn't trade for Bernier, where are we gonna get our franchise goalie from? The free agent market? Look where that landed us 2 years ago and we are still suffering from our goalie play. I know Bernier is unproven and all but when was the last time a goalie that was highly touted like Bernier was available? The only reason why he was available because Quick established himself as a clear cut No.1 otherwise LA wouldn't be looking to deal him. I would've taken the gamble. These promising goalie doesn't become available too often and when they do they are either old,past their prime or a reclamation project. Are we just gonna sign these guys to long term deals then keep having goalie issues year after year? Toronto paid very little to acquire him imo. I would've done Read, a 2nd rd pick and possibly a 3rd in either 2014 or 2015. Who knows what LA was asking from us but I would've tried to sweeten it alittle. Now I dread seeing Bryz in net for possibly another year. I can care less we we stunk it up again next year but what worries me is if he gets hurt playing in so many games that we can't buy him out and will be stuck with his cap hit the rest of the way. We are carrying Pronger's dead cap already and hopefully not Bryz or Streit either. All in all this was the best chance for us to get a young goalie to grow with the young core of forwards we had and Homer to me blew it. I really hope he buys out Bryz this summer and Does not sign another goalie to a long contract or we will be in the same position right now but worst with no buy outs free of cap hit.

Wasn't much to give up from leafs. Our saga continues as we only trade or sign goalies/dmans that are over 30 and getting ready to go into retirement. Somewhere along the way we need to take a chance on these young promising goalies, tired of trading for broken down goalies or reclaimation projects that their team gave up on.

@JackStraw Exactly Jack. Pre Cap era, Flyers can buy any free agent they want and that still didn't bring us a Cup. Now with the cap it's much harder to put a Cup winning team together thru FA. You need to draft and develop players while having cost control to fit them under the cap. The Flyers need to learn and not to trade young players away for over the hill has been all stars who still command alot of money.

Where did you see me crying, I'm stating a fact here. Snider's money? LMFAO, it's us fan's money that are paying for everything. You got that right, I might just not root for them if they continue on like this for the foreseeable future. If you can't come to these forums and have a normal discussion then don't come at all. These forums are for us to vent our frustration over the team in both good and bad ways. Hell why have any forums at all for anything for that matter.

Can we redeye Mason in for the game? I know Heeter is backing up but Lavi won't play him.

I agree we do need help on defense but another no.1 winger? Are you trying to out score the opponent? Cause that hasn't worked for us the past few years. We need to fix the goalie issue this offseason or next when we can still buy out Bryz. If we are going forward with him in goal, I do not see us winning a Cup, I can just see him giving up the flaky backbreaking goal that MFL gave up to Kane if we do get to the Finals. His cap hit and years remaing will hurt us bad down the road.

I think I am crazy for following this team for as long as I have. So you are OK going forward with what we have now in net? Keep signing/trading for goalies no one else wants? Maybe we need to suck the next few years to get high picks and draft the goalie or defensemen we need. Our core at forward are still young enough to rebuild the back end. If not you have to give up to get what you need (goalie and no.1 dman).

@King Knut You can't buy out a player if they are hurt so Pronger is a no go. @toughfighter83 Buy out Bryz and trade for Bernier. Go forward with both Bernier and Mason as your goalie tandem. If they suck then we get a high draft pick to actually draft one lol.

I don't get why we have to include the 3rd tho, heard they needed to clear some cap space to get Gaborik. Did Homer get fooled into giving up a high pick? I would've gave up no higher then a 5th for that salary and the season is almost done anyways so a backup now is not needed much.

@JackStraw Ifthey decline to make a offer then he can become a ufa and resign at lower cap hit so can other teams. Also what Bre says ^^^

Look on the bright side, if they play Mason the rest of the way, the no.1 pick looks within reach.

Be funny as hell they buy out Bryz and trade for Luongo.

Because the Flyers don't really care for the future in goal or defense, they are in love with forwards. Why we always suffer in goal and a no.1 defenseman, they will only go out to trade for one when we absolutely neccessarily need one bad. Thinking about this piss me off really. We had a shot at Cujo but they went the cheap route with Beezer then when the goalie market stinks they way overpay for one.

I agree that Maloney knows we hurting for defense and trying to make a push for the last playoff spot. I do hope Homer waits til the offseason to do any trades for defensive help. I can see him trade our no.1 pick/Couts for it, just hope it's the correct dman we need and is still young.

I agree that we should go after Bernier in the offseason. Don't know why but Bishop to me seems like a great backup and will probably be a ok starter. I rather take a shot at Bernier then Bishop.
