  1. Answer for Fun Fact Trivia: Answer: A thief. Enjoy your intermission til' the next broadcast.
  2. Fun Fact: Trivia Question #1: What do you call a New York Ranger with a Stanley Cup Ring? Answer:
  3. wOULDN'T This bE sUMPTHIN'.....sumpthin.......... Giroux - Couturier - Laine Laughton - Hayes - Farabee Lindblom - Patrick - Konecny Morin - Raffle - N.AK
  4. With The Morin Experiment in full swing as LD(about time we have a semblance of a punisher) the organization is rooting for him to succeed. I prefer: Provy - Ghost Sanny - Myers Hagg - Gustafsson Braun/Friedman Ghost has this year to show his game and can be a catalyst to us winning the Stanley Cup. He has game changer in his DNA. In regards to the expansion draft. If he can't pull it off this year as the player he was trajecting to be, than maybe look for a sign and trade partner. We think Ghost is a better defensive player than Gustafsson besides his recovery from injury struggle as was G's struggle as well, which answered doubts he was toast. Ghost was recovering from that the following year along with some knee problems early last year. Actually Gus has been known as a weak link on defense. Provy and Ghost were a first pairing before Ghost ailments threw his game off. Ghost at less than 100% is less effective than Gus at less than 100%, so if Ghost comes back less than 100%, I feel Gus should take over. Owner and President the late Ed Schneider, lauded Ghost and said, "He's Ghot's to behere!" as he saw the natural talent and skill and poise he showed. Putting up record seasonal stats, his first year as well. .NEW YORK — The nickname came during his freshman year at Union College Shayne Gostisbehere was at a campus party when he bumped into sophomore forward Josh Jooris, who now plays for the Calgary Flames. “Josh came up to me and started calling me Ghostbusters,” recalled Gostisbehere. “That turned into Ghost. I got a nickname from a nickname. It’s a pretty cool nickname. I love it.” These days, everyone who follows Flyers hockey knows who “Ghost” is and what he’s about. And after this weekend, Ghost has gone international. On Saturday against the Devils, Gostisbehere extended his rookie point streak to 11 games with a power-play goal. That established a new Flyers franchise mark for a rookie, breaking Mikael Renberg’s 1993-94 record. At the same time, the 11 games also set a new NHL record for points streak by a rookie defenseman, breaking Barry Beck’s 1977-78 mark with Colorado. His power-play assist during the 3-1 loss to the Rangers extended that streak to 12 games. By Sunday evening, the 22-year-old Floridian had time to reflect on the record as well as the whirlwind it’s been for him in just 36 games since being called up in mid-November. “It’s awesome,” Gostisbehere said. “It’s history. And it’s pretty cool to be part of history. Especially, so early in my career. I can’t thank my teammates enough. Without them, I could not do any of that. “Like the goal. Simmer (Wayne Simmonds) jumping in mid-air to get in [New Jersey Devils goalie Cory] Schneider’s eyes. Little things like that. Guys putting the puck in the net for me when I pass it to them. It’s a team effort with me getting the accolades.” Gostisbehere is third on the Flyers with 18 power-play points. His 10 goals are fourth on the team. Among all NHL rookies, he is fifth in scoring with 31 points and had played at least 20 less games than the leaders. His six power-play goals are tied for the rookie lead. He leads all rookies in power-play assists (13) and points (18) and is fourth in game-winning goals (3). “People should be excited by this young guy,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “What he has done entering the league has been very impressive. You are always challenged by what you can do the next day. His start has been exciting and it’s been impactful. “As long as he keeps his feet on the ground, which he continually speaks well to, and he is hungry to improve and get better every day, he’ll continue to answer that question about what he brings the next day.” Don’t think for a minute that Ghost doesn’t know that. He was keenly aware of general manager Ron Hextall’s comments all through the summer and training camp about patience in developing rookies, not pushing the envelope, and making sure young players who get a chance don’t get too comfortable in their surroundings. Hextall wants his prospects to pay their dues. Even when he called Ghost up from the Phantoms, Hextall fretted over how other prospects would react. That is, would they think it’s too easy to get to the NHL level? Or maybe all they needed was an injury to a veteran player to propel them. Gostisbehere understood Hextall’s concerns. “I wasn’t a high draft pick or first-rounder,” said Gostisbehere, who was picked in the third round of the 2012 draft. “I went to college. It is different. I think it depends on the player himself. … When you get your number called, you go out and … make it tough on them to send you back down. “That’s what stuck in my mind. Play the game and show him I can be an everyday player. I wasn’t trying to show him he was wrong. He has a plan for everyone. You need to trust your general manager. He has proven that patience is a key.” Hakstol admits that Ghost has exceeded his expectations. Then again, Hakstol really had none to begin with given Gostisbehere was an injury recall and would not have been here had it not been for Mark Streit’s surgery last November. “He is excelling in the first couple months in the league on the offensive side and that is what brings and draws attention,” Hakstol said. That's another way of saying what the Flyers want to see is for him to excel on the defensive side of the puck. Man-up play. Play in front of the net. Moving the puck out of the defensive zone confidently and efficiently without turnovers. “Those things are very important, too,” Hakstol said. “His overall game coming into the league has been good. How hard are you willing to push every day to make it better?” Gostisbehere says there is a trickle-down effect to other defensive prospects in the organization — Sam Morin, Robert Hagg, Travis Sanheim, Mark Alt and Ivan Provorov. “I want to set a good example, show them you can have fun and stay humble doing it,” Gostisbehere said. “If you get a big head, bad things can happen. Stay within yourself, work hard. Success will come.” ----------------------------------------------------- Gus is a welcome signing. It's not a matter of choosing one or the other, it's a matter of putting Ghost back in a position to succeed and Gus in a position to excel. I prefer: Provy - Ghost Sanny - Myers Hagg - Gustafsson If Ghost falters than we can bring up Gus to switch with Ghost. We still have multi years with Ghost and one questionable year with Gus. Braun would of been gone had Nisky stayed, so you can never say anything as a certainty. Ghost is a controlled cost and if he excels we try to keep him or trade if he will be taken. We still have this year to work with that. If a doctor tells you, your going to loose your arm next year, why would you cut it off this year to just get it over with. KEEP WHAT YOU HAVE! (barring a solid trade back) So best possible lineup as of January 2021: I prefer: Provy - Ghost(if excels) Sanny - Myers Hagg - Gustafsson(wild card strengthening the third pairing offensively) Hip Hip Hurray for a long post going longer. I think Ghost is on top and Gus is a question mark.
  5. Best news of the year! Go Morin Go..... Good Job kids...
  6. With my forward line for the coming year, I see what the coaching staff has done in the past with veteran players for reasons of known value/talent. Cap management is already fixated in the lineup. The veteran lineup is a known commodity. Coaches play this system very often. -------------------------------------------------------------- This is my forward line projection: Forward line is probably already set. Giroux - Couturier - Voracek JVR - Hayes - Farabee Lindblom- Patrick - Konecny Raffl - Laughton - NAK Do not let this fact escape you. We need to hold on to our young talent. The sad fact is that most likely we will not be able to keep all our players if they shoot up as above average/possible All Stars talent. They are going to eventually want more money and term then we are going to be able to afford. Keeping our younger talent will allow us to keep our window of a Stanley Cup open for consecutive win opportunities for years to come. --------------------------------------------------------- Raffle is a known quantity and is better than Bunnaman now. Raffle works out very hard in the offseason and is stronger. Bunnaman can play in the AHL and work on other aspects of his game so that he can be playing top line minutes/all situations and round out his game. When Raffle retires/not extended, then Bunnaman is a solid option by then. There is no rush to bring him up permanently. Bunnaman in the AHL "Playing top minutes" will keep him revved and never idled, while the favored Raffle will finish out his service. Then if available still can slip in as a thirteenth all situational player. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ahh yes, JAY VEE ARRRRH! Hated by most......understood by few. The optics seem accurate at first, second and even at third glance. None the less. JVR HAS the physical tools to be in all situations AND the mental acumen to excel. The difference is, is that he plays like a cat and doesn't want to get his feet wet often. He has the ability to play like a TIGER and pounce and athletically accomplish his will. Unfortunately the Tiger might never come out again. He takes very good care of himself after games and works on longevity and recovery. Mojo even chimed in with what I saw as well: "JVR was one of the Flyers best 5 v 5 players last year...with all of his faults, somehow he managed to have a good year." - Mojo Will JVR be able to replicate last season as the boiler plate or what's to expected from here on out? He was noticeable in the playoffs as a positive in how he played. He played better than the ones who should of shined. That is the more - - - --------------------------------------------------------------- All players come and go. Just as G, Jake, Coots will one day hang up the skates, JVR is still younger than two of the three. JVR will hang up his laces as well, this will not be that year. G will hang up his skates one day...it will not be today. Jake will eventually have to hang up his skates but that day will never come next year. When the youngsters can chew more than they can bite, then, will be the day they take on more responsibility, that day will come; but not this year. Sandin is one I am excited to see, as was Raffle when he flew in from overseas. Will he flourish? Time will tell. I think he will probably replace Raffle in a few years if things go as plan. Allison is someone I've been wanting to see for quite some years now, am interested how he does if put on a line with NAK. Laczynski is also one that has piqued my interest as well. Remember we still have Ratcliff and the main underpinning of Frost. Will he be our Briere 2.0? ----------------------------------------------------- When it comes to Patrick being healthy, the better optics is can Patrick stay in the lineup? Frost needs to get stronger and tougher, he will be targeted....that is a guarantee, other teams will circle him on the map. if he can develop evasiveness, that will serve him well in the long run and his career. Otherwise he will be canceled out as an effective player. This is just how things are and not a knock on him. I think he definitely has a chance in the NHL. You bring expanded discussion on this bored....ZZ Good stuff kid....
  7. I like: Forward line is probably already set. Giroux - Couturier - Voracek JVR - Hayes - Farabee Lindblom- Patrick - Konecny Raffl - Laughton - NAK Defensive pairing I want to see in the start of the year. Provorov - Ghost Sanheim - Myers Hagg -Gustafsson/ Braun Hart/Moose Insert: x fancy fotos x fancy pants comments... ********************************************************** Bottom line this line was the projected lineup that was in place for the coming years, pending any trades. This is the line up that better utilizes assets with talents. Line 1 is tried and true. Line 2 is what was working. Line 3 is what was about to happen before medical issues came around. Line 4 is probably the best 4th line in the east. Pending other signed players that will win a spot in training camp. These 4 lines have NHL experience. I can see Sandin making things interesting as a slide in. the defensive pairing of Ghost on the first line is something that worked in the past. His injuries caused him to compensate his game and it didn't fall favorably. He had two injury setbacks that threw his game, which caused him to not be able to play his game. Braun is probably only hear until the end of this year. Which he probably would of gone back to San Jose had Nisky stayed on board for one more year. Ghost is better than Braun and can be physical at times. Gustafsson is most likely not as good as Ghost on defensive duty. Ghost has shown he can break up 2 on 1's at times with his speed skating back. If things go south on top pairing on a play and an odd man rush develops going the other way, I would like the odds in our favor more if a Provy and Ghost pair were to turn back those tides. Hagg and Gustafsson I think would balance out the 3rd pairing switching in Braun depending on certain game day decisions. I would prefer to have Sanheim and Myers continue to develop together as it would make it easier to both learn the game with a known constant. Two rookie blades sharpening themselves rubbing together, for lack of no other vet defensemen to show them the ropes at their talent level. I'd prefer Morin over Hagg. More aggressive defensively and a better/faster skater. I still hold out for Morin playing and being a very positive impact on the team. Do not let this fact escape you. We are most likely not going to be able to keep all of our young players if they really excel. Coots/Provy/Myers/Heart...etc are gonna command more years and cost. Flat cap and expansion draft won't allow us to take on another big contract unless we loose Jake or JVR to expansion. This is a solid lineup: Giroux - Couturier - Voracek JVR - Hayes - Farabee Lindblom- Patrick - Konecny Raffl - Laughton - NAK If Patrick is out then most likely this line: Giroux - Couturier - Voracek JVR - Hayes - Farabee Lindblom - Laughton - Konecny Sandin/NAK - Raffl - Sandin/NAK
  8. Forward line is probably already set. Giroux - Couturier - Voracek JVR - Hayes - Farabee Lindblom- Patrick - Konecny Raffl - Laughton - NAK Defensive pairing I want to see in the start of the year. Provorov - Ghost Sanheim - Myers Hagg -Gustafsson/ Braun #7 - Freidman Hart/Moose
  9. Off topin...ON topic....yes I remember the Cootes seethers....
  10. BTW did I mention, I think Laine seem OK...not, must have...seems OK.....
  11. If they're not happy with BCF16 offer.....go screw yourself. Laine doesn't have any Playoff gumption with what we are headed for and need. We need Playoff performers now. We have to see what we have in the Playoffs this year and go from there. What good does it do to score 132 goals in the regular season and only score 1 goal in 3 series. We are past the rebuild stage and now need to hone our Playoff talent. We're still developing that part of it now. AV so much has said as well. Our focus now is improving our Playoff performance. This past playoffs is an asterisks for the history books. So much going on in and out of the league to say all playing fields were even. It was what it was. We need to focus on our depth, we seem to be a team that is trending with allot of depth. Laine doesn't win us a Cup. It improves our stats. We don't know his locker room acumen. I got no problem with the kid. When you turn off the tube the problems don't just get cut-off then. They're still there whether you are aware or not. This isn't a sitcom. We also have pricier fish to pay in the coming years. Goalies, forwards, D and role players. Maybe next year we can do another Haysee type deal, pick him up then. How's Duchene doing vs Hayes? We won that acquisition.
  12. Raffle loaned to his home country makes sense if he is staying in his country during the offseason. If he was here in Philly and took a flight to Austria, then that's a different story. But it seems like he was already over seas, so why not start playing some games and get a head start to the season. Especially if your going to be playing for a contract. With the uncertainty of the world optics and oppositions on how the world should be, I don't blame him for playing in Austria.
  13. Go at it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIEVqFB4WUo
  14. Don't get me wrong a team does need a Hagg in their squad to whip at. Draw that whip! Break yo mamas back.
  15. The thing is I don't think Ghost really "stunk"" that bad. His ""stinky" season still puts him as a 3rd 4th pair stat player. I'll take a "stinky" Ghost over a "stunky" Hag. Even if it seems bewitching to some.
  16. I guess No Gnews Is Good Gnews.
  17. I really don't agree with the mass on Ghost. I understand that Ghost as someone to coach in the past has not been the smoothest. He has been somewhat stubborn on how he sees things. But he has improved his attention to detail on defense, since his rookie year. He can be physical and check players and doesn't shy away from it. 3 on 3 over time talent, he has been an asset. Keeping the puck in zone miraculously in (5 v 5), (5 v 4), (6 v 5) during the last minute of PP or last minute of period is having a winning chance weapon to win. This was an interesting post on BSH site from a poster croppedbee: And to put it more plainly... Let’s look at the last three years, including Ghost’s "bad" season with Hagg. Ghost’s CFrel% is 4th best on the team, ahead of Niskanen and Provorov and of course all the bums. Ghost’s xGFrel% is 4th best on the team, behind Niskanen, Sanheim, and Gudas. His xGA/60 is tied for 4th best on the team, behind Braun, Niskanen, and Gudas. His ES goals/60 is tied for 4th best on the team, behind Manning, Provorov, and Sanheim (and tied with Myers). His ES expected goals/60 is 4th best on the team, behind the same three players. His ES P/60 is 2nd best on the team while his P1/60 is 6th best on the team. Maybe Ghost is actually the 4th best Dman on the team. Posted by croppedbee on Oct 14, 2020 | 4:54 PM Ghost is healthy now and can use his lateral movement to his advantage. As an offensive defensemen, those types of players play with risk/reward. TK played that way, and got better. Ghost understood and made progress. Hextall not only thought of building, but building with quality pieces, it seems that Fletcher believes in this as well. If they continue to get high character talent then the trades they eventually make will be easier to stomach. Fletcher so far has been at first strike questionable, but on further evaluation shown wisdom with his choices. Maybe pays a little to sweet for our liking, but provides the pieces to not be left in the lurch. This is an odd year to be a Flyers fan, sports fan in general. I wonder what AV's take is on the Gus acquisition besides, let the boys play it out come training camp.
  18. What if the D ended up being:....... (most unlikely) Provorov - Hagg Sanheim - Myers Ghost - Gustafsson Braun or maybe... Provorov - Ghost Sanheim - Myers Hagg- Gustafsson Braun This was an odd signing. An equal or less than/greater than Ghost. But what if PP1 was: (could be badass) G/Coots/Jake Ghost - Gustafsson PP2: JVR/Hayes/TK Sanheim - Lindblom?/NAK? Last year the questions where on offense(Hayes), since Fletch got us Nisky and Braun to settle our D pretty straight forward. This year our D is the question with offense being second kindle. It's like you had a set number of Lincoln Logs and your parents take away some and drop you a different set that you have to figure out how to use and incorporate the build to your existing imagination of how you wanted to build it. I know the Power Play and secondary scoring was on his to do list. He just went about and got odd pieces that say: Can also be used in Power Play situations as well piece. It is odd, but Gus does fit a need in Power Play use but, not in better 1st pairing partner.... He might think Provy has matured enough to not need Nisky (training wheels) and might see Ghost or Hagg as a fill in and see how it goes. But the thing is he isn't that type of GM, when they put Farabee on hold to sign Grant and Thompson, it was because they had the experience and depth to hold those deep positions in the Heavy Playoff situations that he didn't feel comfortable for Farabee to have to carry or any other youngin. What was his thought process for picking up Gustafsson? Improving the Power Play? Has somewhat veteran experience? I don't think they want to put Myers in that position or break up the 2nd pairing to allow them to grow together for now. If this is our opening night defensive roster, I would try Provy with Ghost on the first pair and maybe shuffle it up during the 3rd period on a case by case situation. I think Myers will get more PK time this coming season with a splash of Sanheim here and there. Provy, Braun and Hagg will most likely do the heavy lifting.
  19. Gonna Feed on your players soon.......
  20. Remember this guy? Maybe we're seeing the 5th dimension unfold? About Description Erik Gustafsson is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays as captain for Luleå HF of the Swedish Hockey League.
  21. I would prefer that AV mold the young pieces to playing the right way so that when we get the final pieces, our foundation is as solid to support the toppings we add. I hear G is very serious and hard working in practice. I would like to see more clips on how our team plays in practice so that we can see for ourselves if we have dr. jekyll and hyde syndromes. Because in the games I just don't see it almost at all. Maybe the coach can replay their practice tapes to "show" the players what they look like from the outside view. I know I was guilty of playing lights out in practice games and the coach scratching their head and saying why aren't you doing this in the game! Burning through players and scoring, outhustling...but then again I wasn't getting paid millions to perform at a job.
  22. One of the MAIN problems is the expansion draft and coinciding with resigning our players. If it was one problem it would be easier to move forward. Taylor Hall is no guarantee, what if his output is like G? And in the playoffs = 2 assists? Then the trifecta stacking against all teams is the possible and most likely FROZEN cap increase. That's a lot of $H1t to throw at a GM. WTFrijoles you talkin' bout. Now CTT said if he see's a move that makes the team better at COST he will do it. I want AP but remember when we had a GM who thought like that and went for it (in his mind VLC was the guy to grab) Is AP worth losing one of Sanheim or Myers? Does he push us over the edge when we don't know if G, Jake, TK will score us goals in the playoffs for the next 2-3 years before AP declines and on the books. I think it's short-sighted BUT it definitely raises us to win a cup, but at the cost that if we don't, we'll be screwed by loosing our 2 year process*(*5 year process) that we were told and are now seeing unfold.
  23. Beginning to like this kid more and more.
