  1. It's YOUR side of the Commonwealth's politicians that are to blame! The casino was willing to build it tax free for a license but Rendell and his east side cronies had a back door deal to award the license somewhere else. Why you ask? Nobody could find a VALID reason, which leads me to believe someone was lining their pockets instead.

    So when the Flyers fan base wants to cry about where their tax money is going, just keep voting in the east side Democrats... It's obviously working well in the fifth most corrupt state in the country. ;)

  2. @pilldoc

    Thank you. It explains that surgery is not necessarily required and I get all that. My question though remains... If surgery to close it does no harm, why wouldn't they just close it?

    @jammer2

    I need someone to interpret that. I'll get back to you when I figure it out?

    @everyone else

    Anyone speak Canadian? I need help with Jammer's post.

  3. What I'm still confused on is the hole in the heart issue that led to the stroke. The show I watched about it, and the information I can find on it, all indicate it can be closed with a simple medical procedure so it is never a risk again. And it's actually fairly common. I don't understand why there hasn't been anything said about whether its been closed, or if not, why not?

  4. @Polaris922 Would not mind getting some info on this Blueger kid, all I know is that hockeyfutures is high on him, giving him a 7.5. All I know is that he's from the NCAA....no other info on him, but HF lists him as the top Pens center prospect.

    Would love to here how one of my fav ex-Spits Tom Khunackle is doing....as well as Tristan Jerry, think he's the goalie of the future for the Pens, please tell me how he looks side to side and how aggressive he is coming out and cutting off the angle.

    I'm disappointed I can't make it now to tell you. A charity organization I serve as an official in has moved up a meeting Saturday and now I can't go.

    Shame.. Was looking forward to it.

  5. @Polaris922 Horny, as far as I can tell, is just semi-creative with the puck....he needs talent surrounding him to compile top notch production. He's never really had that through is career, so we are about to see the very best Hornqvist we have ever seen as a pro. Even with the putrid Preds offense, he managed 30 goals, 27...22 last year....there is a outside chance this guy could touch 40 goals, if he can kick in 30 with Mike friggin Fisher as the guy feeding him the puck. Sid and Malkenstein are obviously a BIG step up in talent from anything he has ever played with. He's also 27, so just entering his prime....he really could let loose next year, a very nice gamble by the Pens IMHO.

    Here's hoping! Lol

  6. The Penguins...

    Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis

    Bennett - Malkin - Hornqvist

    Who is left and who is right between Hornqvist and Bennett is up in the air but I think Bennett will start on the left until we see how Hornqvist works with Malkin in his natural position.

    Downie is a wildcard. As much of a piece of trash as he is Tocchet seems to love him, and if Tochett can get him back in 20 goal form he may get the slot instead if Bennett.

  7. I know we are going to disagree on the "falling" vs "driving head into the ice" debacle.

    They did mention the broken vertebrae. I just did not quote the entire thing because it is pages long. But they did state that the crown kept up with the doctors and that some of the assigned doctors indicated his condition was improving, while a doctor Moore personally consulted on the side just happened to be the one giving the less optimistic outlook and mentioning things that "could not be found through traditional diagnostic techniques"

    I interpret that as Moore went to a doctor on the side to get a different opinion than the "he is improving" and got him to say there are things that will not show up through medical examination. Yep, sounds a lot like Homer Simpson getting a prescription for Dimoxinil from a "special" doctor on the side who charged it through is benefits to "keep brain from freezing"

    Crosby's doctors said the same thing shortly before his first comeback...

  8. @yave1964

    @Old School Hockey

    I have been searching google to limited success.

    I did find a copy of the court judgment transcript from 2004, which the Judge had a lengthy dialogue of the facts as presented. A few things stuck out.

    http://www.provincialcourt.bc.ca/judgments.php?link=http://www.canlii.org/en/bc/bcpc/

    Dec 22, 2004 for those who want to read it. Ill highlight a few parts. Particularly of Bertuzzi landing on Moore since some maintain he intentionally drove Moore to the ice, while others like me, think the falling on him was not intentional(And apparently, the Crown prosecution did not try to argue the matter). Also, where the treating doctors think his concussion is on the lower end of the spectrum, and that he has been improving as days go by(Back in 2004), while it is noted that a Doctor Moore personally got a consult from aside from the doctors he had to see is the one giving the less optimistic outlook.

    Here are some quotes.

    [17] As is shown in the video, at the time Bertuzzi let go of the stick in his right hand, the stick fell to the ground. It appears that his left foot mounted that prone stick at the time he punched Moore. Bertuzzi's falling forward is equally consistent with him having lost his balance from having stepped on his own stick.

    [26] When Mr. Moore was attended to by the treating neurologist in Vancouver, it was that doctor's opinion that the concussion was considered to be at the minor end of the spectrum and that it was the opinion of that treating neurologist that Mr. Moore recovered extremely well in the days immediately following.

    [27] Thereafter he received medical attention in Colorado. Subsequently it appears that his case has also been considered in a medical facility in Cleveland.

    [28] The Crown has made efforts to maintain updates on Mr. Moore's neurological condition, and one as of October the 22nd suggested that his situation was improving. There were still symptoms which were primarily subjective symptoms of post-concussion symptomology, but ones which appeared to be generally improving. It looks like he has renewed physical activity under the supervision of physicians and trainers, but it is clear that he is not yet at the level that he was when playing in the National Hockey League.

    [29] One doctor, Dr. Adrian Upton, who has been consulted by Mr. Moore, has a less optimistic prognosis of the progress of Mr. Moore. His concerns seem to be based upon the fact that there has not been a complete recovery within the seven to eight months since the injury, and in his opinion that may raise the prospect of some other factors going on with Mr. Moore. Those potential conditions are not ones that could be disclosed by the traditional neurological diagnostic techniques such as the MIR. It is anticipated that Mr. Moore will continue in his rehabilitation and will continue to receive top level medical attention. It is also clear that at this juncture Mr. Moore has not returned to playing hockey at any level, and the prognosis of when he may be able to return is as yet uncertain.

    I am not trying to be a dink by pointing this out and keeping this argument going. But I am still in the "he is playing it up to get a big payday" camp and these statements from the judge ring like a gong to me. The one doctor he personally consults just happens to have a less optimistic outlook based on prospects that cannot be disclosed by traditional techniques?

    In any case, interpret it as you will. I know a few people here think some are a bit heartless for "forgetting Steve Moore", but things I have read like this..........At least understand from some points of view, this is very suspicious

    That all strikes me as straight out if the defense's argument brief and its certainly not a judge's findings. There were also allegations that the prosecutors were Canucks fans.

    Seriously though, the prosecution was getting a guilty plea. They never argue the defense's excuses when they get their guilty plea. Those statements are NOT considered findings of fact, as the judge simply accepts them with the plea.

    Interesting there's no mention of the cracked vertebrae and such from his neck. But they bother to comment on how it "appears" Bertuzzi fell, which in watching the video over and over I contest is absolute horse ****.

    As for the concussion issues, the best neurologists in the world can't help anyone there. Ask Crosby how his return to hockey went for him. He sat out how much longer with "soft tissue" damage after the first attempt?

  9. The Pittsburgh Penguins will host the team’s annual prospect development camp July 15-19 at CONSOL Energy Center, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

    The group of rookies and prospects will be in Pittsburgh taking part in on-ice practice and scrimmage sessions, undergoing medical and fitness testing and attending meetings and seminars.

    Among the prospects attending will be 2014 first-round draft pick Kasperi Kapanen and 2013 second-round pick, goaltender Tristan Jarry.

    Penguins prospects skate at 2013 Development Camp

    Kapanen, 17, has played in the top Finnish league the last two years, scoring 14 points (7G-7A) in 2013-14. Jarry, 19, led the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Western Hockey League (WHL) championship and to a 2014 Memorial Cup championship.

    Derrick Pouliot, Pittsburgh’s top pick (8th overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft, will attend camp, but won’t skate as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. Pouliot was named the Canadian Hockey League’s ‘Defenseman of the Year’ in ’13-14.

    As in past years, the scrimmage on Saturday, July 19 at CONSOL Energy Center will be free and open to the public. The scrimmage begins at 3 p.m. and includes free parking in all CONSOL Energy Center surface lots.

    Wilkes-Barre/Scranton head coach John Hynes and his assistant coach, Alain Nasreddine, will run the on-ice portion of camp alongside Penguins goaltender development coach Mike Buckley.

    Penguins assistant general managers Tom Fitzgerald and Bill Guerin will coordinate the off-ice portion of camp, with Penguins strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar and WBS strength and conditioning coach Joe Lorincz also serving as instructors.

    Five players from last year’s camp – Olli Maatta, Jayson Megna, Brian Dumoulin, Philip Samuelsson and Adam Payerl – went on to play for the Penguins during the 2013-14 season, with Maatta earning the team’s rookie of the year award.

    A complete camp roster and schedule will be announced later this week.

  10. Far enough. BTW- do you guys have a "town hall" for STH like the Flyers do? It would be interesting this yeas with all the changes.

    Yes but I haven't made it there in years. My work schedule over the summer is crazy. I've had 18 hour shifts the past couple days. I'm "off" tomorrow but have 9 hours overtime. And probably work 18 Friday. Lol
