MaineFlyFan
Yikes... I specifically liked this tag. Thought it summed up the article in 2 words; “institutional arrogance.”
GrittyForever
Well, there's nothing in there that's really "news" but there's a couple things that have to be considered against the narrative. First, if it was that incestuous why wasn't Burke hired instead of Fletcher? The idea that Pittsburgh become Philly is just weird........ Second, Clarke and Holmgren are supposed to be the problem but Fletcher didn't want Torts, they did, and Torts is doing a heck of a good job so........... To me, hiring alumni is no big deal. Lots of teams have done it in the past and still do. There's a legacy and an understanding of what it means to be in that organization and to some extent a loyalty. The big mistake was firing Hextall and hiring Fletcher. Maybe things would still have gone south, but that move definitely derailed whatever was happening and things are a lot messier now than they were then. (and even Hakstol's doing pretty good in Seattle where some say he's a coach of the year candidate, go figure). So to sum, one idea would be to fire them all and start all over, but the other one would be to just fire Fletcher.
