Football has special teams, offense and defense....some special teamers intertwine with the offense and defense, but for the most part, they are seperate entities. If one of the 3 fails, the whole team is usually doomed. In hockey, you have the pk, pp, offense and defense, but they all play the game at the same time in various formats. There is not a special teams unit that is a seperate entity upon itself, that has the game in it's hands like a football special teams play. Maybe you can say the shoot out participants are equal to specail teams players, but a bit of a stretch considering they only appear 1 out of 5 games....roughly.
