Vanflyer
The Canadian dollar is worth about $0.90US at the moment compared to being basically at par for the past few years. Hockey players get paid in $US regardless of where they play, so when our dollar goes down 10%, that's a big hit to the bottom line of Canadian squads. Fair enough. Its has always been that way and your post only supports my point. Everyone says that Hockey is Canadas game, but the reality (at least at the NHL), is that its Americas game as they are the country that supports the league. See my post to Jammer, that further illustrates both demographics / support. When I lived in Canada (10 years), the Canada dollar was .64 to the US. Not to get into economics too much, but when the dollar is weak, exports excel (more jobs).

We get all kinds of US visitors whose dollars are suddenly worth 1.10...people come in droves, especially to the Casino and our downtown. Plus, the demand for our goods goes up, cause all the USA businesses are loving the exchange rate. Our city was never stronger and more thriving than the years that were .64 etc.....it was a very booming time for our economy, have never seen anything close since.
