th?id=OIP.M0767bc9bc6880b5e4033daf4f3f23 Ahead of the draft, the Wings and Sharks made an under the radar deal that makes perfect sense for both clubs.

Dylan Sedowy who is generally regarded as a hustling player who makes up for lack of top end talent with a motor that never quits was a third round pick (number 81 overall) by the Sharks a few years ago. He has not signed, and planned on going back into the draft this year, leaving the Sharks with nothing.

His stock has actually risen, he is considered a very good, not great mind you but a very good winger with upside and an NHL future in a Dan Cleary in his prime kind of role. Hustle, plays power play or penalty kill, does whatever is asked and does not excel in any one area but looks to translate to a 15-20 goal a year guy, 3rd liner, fills in higher if the need were to arise.

Everyone wins. The Wings got a guy who most certainly would have been an early or mid second rounder for a third, and he is 20, ready to start the year at Grand Rapids right now. He immediately signed his entry level contract.

The Sharks got a third round pick for a player who was not going to sign and was going to reenter the draft, so they basically traded a third rounder from two years ago for a third rounder now.

Sedowy wins because he lands in a spot where he should excel, with a nice local fan base that will remember him from his days with the Saginaw Spirit.

Not often that a trade works out this way where both GM's come out looking smart, but this is one.

And not to mention that the Wings seem to be short on this kind of grit player. A good value for us, and like you said, something instead of nothing for the SJS.
