  1. @JR Ewing

Wilson never got the Leafs into the playoffs, was given an extension, then fired 2 months later. Now that's some fine planning.

In their defence, at the time of the extension the Leafs were securely in a playoff position, believe it was late December. Everyone remembers the freefall that took place in Jan-Feb-Mar that year. Could not have been predicted, and the Wilson extension was only for one year, which is hardly bad planning.

  2. I can't see him getting too much more than Gunnarsson got, would be surprised if his contract is about 3.5 per year. He is more of a powerplay specialist, while Gunnarsson plays tougher minutes and is overall more important to the defense's core.. Don't get me wrong, good 2nd pairing guy but not worth more than Gunnarsson.. so hopefully he settles for a decent salary. My guess is he is asking for 4+ at the moment, which he will probably not get.

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed defenceman Carl Gunnarsson to a three-year deal Monday, avoiding salary arbitration.

Gunnarsson, 26, had one goal and 14 assists in 37 games last season.

In 224 career regular-season games, all with the Leafs, Gunnarsson has registered 12 goals and 57 assists with 58 penalty minutes.

The Leafs originally selected the six-foot-two, 196-pound Swede 189th overall in the 2007 draft.

Meanwhile, the Leafs announced Monday that they have agreed to an affiliation with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. The Leafs will share the affiliation with the Minnesota Wild.

    ...well that is done...

Not a bad deal for Gunnarsson. He is one of the more steady guys in his own end. Hopefully can get Fraser locked up soon, great third pairing guy.
