  1. Hi! not being here for a couple of years. After the big rebuild from GM to coach and team I have watched every game again from start of this season. How do you all feel about the season and the team? I must say I really like what I see. So far I like how A.V is coaching the team and alot of exciting names on the roster looking good. Hart, Lindblom, Hayes, Konecny and last night Farabee. Read about stupid moves by Fletcher , giving away pics and overpaying players. Thats not good but hope he knows what he is doing, I can live with the costs as long its a winning roster. Anyway im looking forward to this season, i like how we play.

  2. The Umberger trade seems to be nothing more than trying to get rid of the last couple of years of Hartnells salary. I guess you could argue Umberger is faster (he's slow, Hartnells slower) and takes less penalties (and draws less).

Well, Hartnells sallary was a problem. But not compared to VLC. I like Hartnell more than Umberger, and I think Hartnell will be missed. I think he beats Umberger hands down despite being slower and taking more penelties. He is the right type of leader on the ice and in the locker room with a great personality (do not underestimate it) He also takes the hits, and he delivers them. Well, I know we must cut costs but I wish oh how I wish we could have released Vinny instead.

  3. Well... I always expect flyers to go to playoffs so why not this year. I think we will make it but barelly. Its the D that worries me the most. And I hope Umberger came for a trade... but nothing is happen on that front so im a little bit worried about that. Hartnell might not be a sharpshooter any more but he is a class act and great for the locker room. What is Umberger these days?

  4. That would be a huge no. Giroux is what makes this club tick. Move him and immediately, the team loses it's single most dynamic player on offense. As well, none of the other centers on this roster can do what Giroux does. There's nobody who is as good as him offensively and more important, there is nobody on this roster who makes players better the way Giroux does. Giroux is definitely the most untouchable player on this roster.

I Agree. Taking Giroux out of the team would be like taking the Hemi out of my car and replace it with a compost.

Giroux is the reason im not as worried as I should be about our team. I think we have a really crappy roster... im not used with such a crappy roster as a flyers fan. It will be an ugly season 2014/2015 but Giroux would be the only guy to enjoy. Im confident we have a future roster, many of our players will be good in a few years and we have some realy good youngsters to try the big team later on. But its important to keep Giroux!

  5. @Flyingswede

Part of me agrees with you....part wants to believe we've ended the goaltending carousel. The difference in Mason compared to a lot of our retreads is that Mason is still young, he's talented and athletic.

Yes he is young and talent, I guess if he continue we just hooked a talant under the radar. Its just that Esche was talanted, even roman chokemanek was talanted.. I hope Mason is consistent. It would be very good for my heart becouse our golie situation have been frustrating year after years...

  6. For what it's worth, I think that was the point of adding him. Mix it up and add some offensive flare, avoiding the truculence trap Toronto and Calgary have fallen into.

Ofcourse it was, but what offensive flare? we never saw it, we just paid for it without getting it. Dont get me wrong, he was a really good player back in the days. But its not just about points... its about attitude, good work ethic, team spirit. I know we dont have cap space, its a waste having him on bench but if no other team wants him that should be a message to vinny too. Earn your sallary or sit. Still hoping for a trade thou

  7. We just have to get rid of him. I think Vinny was lazy even at his best days. I have never liked him and his style, its soooo not flyerish. I dont want him to take a roster spot, pay him and let him sit. Let a youngster from AHL play 4th line.

  8. Im a little bit suprised of the posts here. "Is this a good pick?" "will he be good?" Tons of young talented players never reach the expected potential. And thats often becouse how the organisation handles them. Im more worried about our organisation/coach/staff than Travis. Whatever he becomes a good defensemen is up to our organisation. When the talent is there, and as long as the player does as good as he can (thats often the case) then its up to the coaches to trust them and let them grow.

  9. Seems like Hexy is going for the drafts/youngsters yes. I like that, I have been saying we should do this since Tampa bay won the cup. And we have been doing it, we just jumped ship with it. I mean Stevens with the phantoms core (you know those L.A guys now). We had it all going, but Stevens had to go, Lavy did a nice race with the team but then, instead of keeping the youths, we kept Lavy and here we are again... stucked with guys like Vinny and a old school coach and a Hexy who wants to retool. How will the Cheif handling draftpicks? I like him but I dont think he is the man for the job. I think Gus could have been a good defensemen for us with the right coach. But its a very fragile time, when players is on the line between AHL/NHL. Everyone can make good NHL games but can you grow into it, can you take more responsibility and become a real NHL player? I think Gus could with the right coach. Its so very important you have the right coach when you are handling young players. Coaches like Hitch, Lavy, Cheif is not the best choices.

  10. Spezza would be another huge mistake. Let's please stop exchanging one disaster for another.

The guy is washed up and injury prone at this point. For $7M in cap hit this would be flat out nuts.

After looking at his injuries and the 7m (I didnt know) - I totally change my mind and take it all back.

  11. Seems like the dude wants to get out of Ottawa and i hope Vinnys time in flyers ends this summer along with Hartnell. I would love to have a big name up front that is consistent in producing. No more wadh ups, no more overpriced "maybe it will work". Spezza delivers and would probebly make Giroux even better. Spezza also would add leadership to the team. I think if we are going to spend money we have to spend it on good players. Otherwise im fine with working with our youth corps, good talent scouting and not trading good draft picks. Just dont wanna see mediocre players being overpaid here.

  12. Dont forget that Homer did a great job as a GM cleaning up the mess after Clarke. I'll respect that. He brought us to a final. The turning point was the Lavy,Richards,Carter disaster. It was not in Homer plans... and when it happend he never got back on track... it was like he didnt have the strenght or will to rebuild again. Signing Lecavalier was a desperate move to replace Jagrs succes in making Girouxe good. Just alot of crazy moves.. like Hal freakin Gill.

  13. Last nights 5-2 victory was absolutly amazing. Thats the spirit they need to show to exeed. Now, even if were kicked out i think we still have the honour. When we work hard we are hard to beat and if we are beaten while working hard well then we could be golfing with pride. Really hope we can turn this and face the pens! I think if we do we have good posibilities to beat the pens

LETS GO FLYERS! LETS GO MASON
