  1. Unless major pieces fall in the draft, I'm leaning towards Konsta Helenius at 12. Coached by Olli the last few years and he compared him (stylistic) on the defensive side in terms of takeaways like Datsyuk/Barkov. He's a 5"11 180 Center and will probably grow a little more. If the pieces fall where they are projected, it's highly likely it's between Helenius and Iggy Jr. I'm leaning 55/45 towards the Finn. And if Kiviharju drops even further it would be a nice 1/2 pickup with our two 1st round picks. But if one of the top D-men fall, I take them.

For me, the Ducks would surely want too much to make the trade worth it. If he were to come at a relative giveaway price, it would be interesting but, either way, Tortorella would likely have him benched within weeks.

Yup, asking price is going to be high, maybe too high. And yeah, Torts will have a field day with Briere saying "here you go, Zegras and Frost as your 1 and 2". Both will be benched with Laughton and Poehling as 1/2, and then over relying on Konecny and Tippet to generate their own chances. So tires of seeing only good responsible 200ft two way hockey where no one is able to carry the puck in and actually making offensive plays on a regular basis.

On another note, don't want to see Cole Eisermann dropping in the draft and the Flyers being forced to take him at 12. Don't need a one dimensional winger who can shoot.

I certainly can't predict the future either, but I'll say that with regard to offense (and that's the only reason to have Zegras around) players peak much sooner than a lot of people think:

Not every player develops at the same rate and at the same ages, but Zegras is the point of his career when we can begin to expect less and less growth, scoring-wise. We'll have to see how it goes with him.

Fair point, and statistically with most players I'm sure you are correct and I'm wrong. I guess this is where good scouting and lifetime hockey experience gut feelings really kick in. I don't have those skills. But if we want high end talent, we need to take some risks and buy "low" otherwise we will only get it by drafting in the top 5 or get extremely lucky to find a Kucherov in the 2nd round.

I just don't see how we can acquire this by not drafting in the top 5. That's why I personally would be willing to take the risk with Zegras. But he's not gonna come cheap, and Frost will probably be part of that trade (+ alot more) which would be difficult to swallow. I'm a big fan of Frost and would hate to see him go.

60 points was terrific during the Dead Puck Era, but today, it's puts you something like 100th in scoring. Not elite.

Agreed. But my argument regarding his age is that I believe there is alot more to his production ceiling. We've been screaming for a high end playmaker to dish out to all of our shoot first wingers...so no doubt his deficiencies in the defensive end and a bad +/- rating must be outweighed against the assists he will rack up and helping to realise the goal scoring potential of the tippets, konecnys, farabees, foersters, Brinks, michkovs.

I may be wrong, but I'm betting that he has 80-90 points in him in the right setting.

many do not like Zegras and don't want him

I like him and I want him. I understand the arguments against him and see the points. But for me his offensive skill set outweighs his deficiencies in the 200ft game.

We've all talked about acquiring high end talent, and needing elite offensive skill set. This guy has that, yes he's not perfect. But we have enough 200ft guys and we will continue drafting more 200ft guys/wingers. It's so so difficult to acquire that 1C with elite offense and here is a guy who is acquirable with two 65point seasons and is what 23/24? We have to be realistic, who is out there at that age with that elite offensive skill set that we can get or draft? I don't see anything feasible or realistic. So to me, if a guy like Zegras is available, you ask and really consider it. Obviously without doing a completely idiotic trade package.

  6. The Avs Cutter rumour, I heard (read) was Briere trying do do a Cutter for Byram straight up and the Avs wanted more. Have no idea what more was, but obviously it was too rich a ask for Briere and co.

There is also the well rumoured pitch to Montreal for Reinbacher straight up which they also refused to do.

I have no doubt Briere and co tried their utmost to get a good package back, and I'm still of the belief that Drysdale was the best they could get, plus the 2nd. Don't forget that pick, it's probably a high 2nd and that's very valuable!

I'm not worried about Drysdale's talent. The guy has a high hockey IQ and is by far the best skater we've had in recent memory and he is only 21...for most defenders that is infant stage. What I am worried about though is that we can't properly develop this talent, and in a few years he becomes a victim of a "hockey trade" and goes on to realise that talent at a different team by the mid 20's...I want him out of the heavy media and fan spot lights for two seasons and playing 3rd, sometimes 2nd pairing minutes 5-5 and give him QB PP1 with York on PP2, and pair him with Seeker for the next two seasons. Yes I know that they played together down the stretch and it wasn't pretty, but nothing was pretty during that awful run.

  7. Well with what the guy has been through to get here, I'm happy he gets this kind of money on a personal note. About time something good happens to him.

That's about the only positive angle I can find about this deal. For the life of me, I don't get 3.2 per from a hockey perspective. It doesn't really hurt us, cap wise, but doesn't it set precedence for others low to mid level guys who now wants above that?

He's a proven 2C and he's on the cusp of breaking through? Interesting. I tend to think it's one or the other but whatever.

No. I said he has, for me, proven he has what it takes to be a 2C.

That doesn't necessarily mean he has put everything together and has immediately proven to be a 2C.

Again, for me, he's close. Thats where the whole cusp thing comes into place.

  9. With Michkov, Tippett, Foerster, Farabee, Brink we have enough quality wingers with time. I love Konecny, and it has been said several times by alot of you, but TK needs to be flipped before signing a humongous contract. Flip him for something that returns our 1C please. Whether it's a high pick, or someone in the early 20's ready to take the next step. Just get it done. Its a waste and poor asset management to let him stay.

So if it isn't Shaw then who do you want as the next coach?

How about Rod in a few years, once we are "done rebuilding". I get he is a former flyer and we prefer somebody from outside. But it seems the Flyers are dead set on having ex flyers around at all times for better or worse. But Rod has done a tremendous job in Carolina, and I'd love to see him take over from Torts/Shaw in  2-3 years time.

It's clear we value Seeler less than the managment does.

    That said.

Trading the team's 2nd best defenceman in the midst of a playoff run doesn't exactly say "Going all in" this year.

Also. Ivan Provorov has been turned into 2 1st round picks.

    I think that's pretty okay.

Is it 9 picks in the first two rounds of the next two drafts?

That's some ammo to get better with.

    8 picks. Two of each (1st and 2nd) in 24 and 25.
