  1. Nice first post...and for the record, there is an eyewitness report. The alleged assault occurred Dec. 9 at the Jack Kirrane Ice Skating Rink, where Milbury was acting as an assistant coach for the Boch Blazers, police said. His son plays for the team. Milbury's son got into a tussle during a game and afterward the former Boston Bruin allegedly went on to the ice and "verbally berated and grabbed and shook" the alleged victim, the Boston Herald reported. According to one eyewitness, Milbury -- who famously derided the "pansification" of hockey during a Hockey Night in Canada telecast in 2009 -- allegedly lifted the boy and shook him, yelling obscenities, before dropping him to the ice.
  2. read this today... When Tom Sestito is sent back to the Phantoms, the Flyers will have $3.4 million of cap space. Pronger had already been on the LTIR list, so his cap hit was not counting. 3. Thanks, all...makes a bit more sense. I used to think I had a pretty good grasp on this stuff. The more I think about it, the less I understand.
  4. So...more what if questions... Pronger is on LTIR for the remainder of the regular season. We get the "credit" for his cap hit. Suppose the Flyers trade for someone..someone pretty decent. If Pronger is cleared for the playoffs and comes of LTIR for the playoffs, there would be NO cap issue, correct, since the cap is calculated for the regular season only? Am I reading that correctly? Or does a player have to be off LTIR before the playoffs begin? Doubtful Pronger comes back, IMO, but just wondering.
  5. This is a damn good article, and coming from an ex-player, who is a HOF'er, is hopefully what gets more of this dialogue to happen, and then gets that dialogue to turn into action. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7352942/waiting-science
  6. this is from spector's hockey site: not saying I like the options thrown out here, but first time I've heard anyone mention Gonchar. No thanks...Sens can keep him. Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside examined the options available to the Philadelphia Flyers to replace Chris Pronger, who’s out for the season and playoffs to post-concussion syndrome. The Flyers could take a closer look at which defenseman are available by the February 27th trade deadline. If Nashville’s Shea Weber or Ryan Suter are available they’d be obvious targets, but the Predators want to re-sign them. Ottawa’s Sergei Gonchar could be another target, while the Carolina Hurricanes could shop UFAs-to-be Tim Gleason, Jaroslav Spacek and Bryan Allen. SPECTOR’S NOTE: They also noted the Flyers could get some cap relief by placing Pronger on LTIR, which would enable them to go over the cap ceiling to add another defenseman if required. If Pronger is forced to retire, however, his salary still counts against the Flyers cap, as he falls under the “over-35″ rule, but the Flyers could get around that by keeping him on LTIR. Don’t expect Weber or Suter to be wearing a Flyers uniform after February 27th, as the Preds won’t move either guy, especially if they’re still in the playoff chase. The Senators would love to dump Gonchar’s salary, but it remains to be seen if the Flyers would want to take him on, especially when they’ve also got to re-sign Matt Carle or lose him to free agency next summer. Gleason and Allen could be more affordable, short-term options. For now, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren won’t panic, as his team is still playing well, but he could take a good look at what’s available come mid-February in the trade market.
  7. @BillDineen That is AWESOME!!!!
  8. And now for something we can all agree on. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/1112/nhl-philadelphia-flyers-ice-girls/content.1.html?eref=sircrc
  9. yep...with the Flyers. $3.25 mil/yr for 3 years. And a NMC. Book it, Dano.
  10. PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms. Crosby said Monday he noticed a recurrence of the problems that sidelined him for more than 10 months earlier this year following a 3-1 loss to Boston last week. Crosby sat out Pittsburgh's two-game road trip to Philadelphia and New York as a precaution but said he's noticed familiar symptoms during light workouts over the weekend. The 24-year-old former MVP said there is no timetable for his return but he will definitely not play on Tuesday against Detroit. Crosby has 12 points in eight games this season, but hasn't scored a goal since netting two in his season debut on Nov. 23 against the Islanders. Crosby called the setback beyond frustrating but stressed it was important to be safe.
  11. Quite a crock of sh!t Homer is asking everyone to eat. 2 quotes, same article.. "Over the last few days, he's had some difficulties - a fairly persistent headache, just a sluggish feeling. . . . So we're just trying to do the right thing here and get him checked out by the doctors in Pittsburgh and see what we're dealing with," Holmgren said after the Flyers held an optional skate in Voorhees. "Is it a concussion? I don't know that we know that just yet. We want to get a better idea, obviously." Then this one: There is a chance Schenn will resume skating next week, Holmgren said, adding that the center's head injury seemed less severe than Pronger's. So, in one quote he says they don't know if it's a concussion and in the next breath he compares Schenn's head injury to Pronger's??? I think he's back on the sauce...seriously. WTF?
  12. "sigh"...so much for my creative brilliance. Man, the CBA update better allow for a buyout grace period.
  13. @aziz Hypothetical question...I though of it because of Pronger, but you can do it for any player really. Teams bury players in the minors with regularity, what's to keep the Flyers from cutting a deal with Pronger, waiving him to the Phantoms, and just flat out paying him? The cap number is gone, right? He gets his money, and then the Phantoms just scratch him for the next 3, 4, 5 years. Again, not saying to do this, or it needs to be done, but COULD it be done? Is there anything the NHL would do to prevent it?
  14. I think he got it when he got a stick in the face. Cause-effect. He didn't have these issues before that injury, now he has them, and has only paid a few games in between. Has to be that play.
  15. That's who I had in mind actually..then take a run at a stud Dman in free agency.
  16. I can't find any video, so if someone does, please post. Oilers defenceman Andy Sutton has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL for his hit on Carolina Hurricanes forwardAlexei Ponikarovsky. The incident occurred in the third period of Edmonton's 5-3 loss to the visiting Hurricanes on Wednesday night. Sutton has been offered the option of an in-person hearing with the league, the NHL said Thursday in a statement on its website. He was suspended for five games earlier this season for a hit to the head of Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog during an Oct. 28 game in Denver. Sutton, a six-foot-six 245-pounder, has three points and 50 penalty minutes in 16 games this season.
  17. Didn't the new NBA CBA allow for 1 buyout(a year) perhaps, with NO cap implications? Not sure, because, well..I really don't give a sh!t about the NBA, but I thought I heard that somewhere. But it would kick ass if the NHL did something similar.
  18. To me it's this simple...we paid a lot for him(overpaid), gave him a ton of years, and an NMC. Giving up 1 bad goal a game isn't good enough. Outside of his streak in early November, that's basically what he is doing...making some great saves, making some routine saves, and giving up a lousy one a game. That 3rd goal was brutal-that puck can NOT go in. Didn't we get a goalie of his pedigree to stop that exact thing from happening..the weak goal that demoralizes the team???? I'm not writing him off yet, but he needs to get better and find consistency-quickly.
  19. Hey Peg, Appreciate your efforts and enjoy reading your blogs. Keep up the good work.
  20. @flyercanuck Hey FC..hope you are well. Everytime I think of Kaberle's name on the Cup, it just pisses me off. I've always hated that guy...proto-type underacheiver. Million dollar talent, and no heart/drive. Think of the warriors that have played in the NHL and never won a Cup. This guy makes a career out of sucking..gets dumped at the deadline, sucks for his new team, and gets a Ring. UGH.
  21. I watched this game..If I remember right, he got smoked on a collision with his own teammate. Article is from www.tsn.ca "Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will sit out the next two games as a precaution. He did not accompany the team on their road trip to Philadelphia on Wednesday. "Sidney took a hard hit during our game against Boston Monday night and wasn't feeling 100 percent," said Penguins general manager Ray Shero. "He saw Dr. Micky Collins of UPMC today and took an ImPACT test, which showed no problems. However, we all think it's best that he sits out the next two games as a precaution." Crosby has 12 points in eight games since returning from a concussion. The Penguins visit the Flyers on Thursday and the New York Islanders on Saturday." //
  22. I think it's more like snake-bitten than injury prone. The broken foot was from a shot block..that's a tough break(pun intended), not necessarily a sign someone is injury prone. At least not yet...
  23. Like most of us, I want to see the kid play about 10 games straight...with set linemates. Let's see what he can do. He has had no chance to build any momentum or gain any confidence to this point. He's gotta be nervous as hell, everytime he takes the ice right now.
  24. per Panaccio on Twitter...not on trip..upper body injury. Kid can't catch a break so far.
