  1. Let's face it, the broad street bullies will not want this stigma. Especially from the captain, no less.

what stigma?? you trade a captain for a captain. there is not any stigma in that. One of the best offensive player for one of the best defensive player. I truthfully would do it.

  2. Actually thanks to Holmgrown the Flyers can't afford it either.

Incorrect. The flyers would save money. While I bash homer and his financial management, this trade would have zero ramifications of homers management. In fact, the flyers would save money.

  3. Super far fetched. Nashville doesn't take that deal.

why not>?? They are changing their philosophy from defense oriented to offence oriented (trotz to laviolette). Peter has coached Giroux. I think its a wash and it would make sense for both teams.

  4. The Flyers will not want that deal, either.

Yes they would. They already attempted it. And Hextalls moto is defense first (which I agree with). You get the primeire defensemen for premeire forward. I would do it, but I just don't like the years on the contract.

  5. Not so far fetched now

Actually not that far off. Strait up, I would have to pause and think about it.

I don't like the years on the the weaber contract. Thats what makes me pause. If it was 3 years shorter, I probably would make that move.

  6. I have to think this has Tocchet's name all over it. As TFG said the only good games in Downie's career are under Tocchet.

good point. I dont hate the guy, but I just think he was / is never a first round pick. Combine his poor skating with his poor brain and its a miracle he is playing in the NHL.

  7. 110 points in the regular season, maybe. They're a worse team now than they were last season, though, more top heavy and more one dimensional...I have a tough time seeing them do a whole lot extra in the playoffs.

ecf is easy for them. They wont have to face the flyers.

  8. Obviously, things can change, but for Vinny, at 34 years old, why go somewhere you don't want to go? Unless that becomes a better option that being somewhere you're not wanted, like Hartnell

Why go some place you don't want to go when you are a multi-millionaire? I can't remember the last time I had so much disdain for a player (maybe Primeau). I have some italian friends in south philly.......hmmmmm

  9. I'm ok with trying to get rid of deadwood (where the #@%& is the series finale?) and let these young guys develop together.

agree its early. People want to say rookie GM, but they should not say that. He spend six years as an asst gm under Lombardie. Which in contrast is much different than Homer spending 6 years under clarke.  I am still pissed that Snyder could not get out of his own way to let Lombardie run the roost. For historians, we had both Lombardie AND hextall. Effing snider could not deal with people that told him "no" "this is the way".

    Two rings later......hmmmmm

Back to our regular programming. I love dead wood. Where I live can't get that other than download (which I am going to do now that reminded me).

    Cheers

  10. Only good side is he's got the potential to be dirty in defense of Sid rather than against him. Lol

yeah, so we call him Neal light and cheaper?? WTF is Rutherford thinking on this move (other than money). Crap, at least Neal can score.

  11. I am with Jim and doom this...

Me too. We are not going to win it this year. I have stated in other threads its clear that Hextall thinks the same and has a plan.

Macdavid, here we come! Joking of course. We will still compete, but we are not a SC team and there are not any immediate moves that will make us one giving our financial situation.

  12. It was also Canada Day.  Not to be disrespectful, but I have no idea what that is. Maybe it's a big drinking day for our friends up north?

first, its bs he was arrested. second, i bet you it was a dare by his fellow drunk buddies. third, its just that the officer is so sad that his team sucks so bad that he saw giroux and said "24 hours" misconduct penalty and game suspension.

  13. Are you saying there's collusion in the NHL? Why wouldn't the NHLPA be over that?

Absolutely not (on collusion). What I am saying is that the offer sheet has been in place for a long time. Its a tool in the tool chest. Yet, nobody (except the Flyers), choose to use that tool. It certainly comes at a cost, but reasonable and appropriate to the player you want to ply from the other team.

So, no to collusion, but yes to buddy buddy syndrome. I think the problem is that nobody wants to exercise it because of "burning a bridge" for the future. I say eff that. I will still play golf with you at the GM conference.

  14. Boston either matches, or loses the players(Nobody wants to lose their youth). Matching will require them to dump salary. Which will require them to dump other good players.

Agree with everything you stated. There is a reason that in the CBA there is clear compensation. It is a strategic move to make a club better. Not every team has deep pockets- even in the cap era, but so what. For me, balls out in business and I will still be your buddy on the golf course.

The problem is it seems reverse in the NHL. I get the buddy - buddy / keep your enemies closer thing, but we are talking about multi million dollar corporations.

At the end of the day, its the fans that pay everyone. Why cow tow to other gms when you should be kissing the feet of the fans and putting the best product on ice to pacify them.

  15. Younger and with a non rebuilt hip may have been better, but in not gonna hate on Emery.

It is what it is at this point. I posted on a different thread that I think Hextall has a plan and knows this is not the year and is not going balls out to attempt to make it happen in fathom.

For us Flyers fans, while not a rebuild in totality, it is a "reshape" and "course correction". So we can piss and whine all we want, but what I would say is to enjoy the process and hockey. Frustration and bumps in the road will still be there. The one thing that impresses me is that Hextall is not Homers biotch. He is doing it the way he wants- un-tethered so to speak.

Poor (is that an oxymoron?) Snider must be sleepless at nights seeing that Hextall is running the show and it will not prove dividends for 2-3 years.

  16. Those are from a few years ago and apparently real. Big deal, he was a Pens fan.

how do you know real? just asking.

secondly, if factual, why is someone digging in the dirt that hard to diss him? If I believe, he just turned 18. So, those messages would be from a 16 y/o- who at the time had zero legit shot at the show??

I give him a pass as an adolescent. Besides, all canadians hate the flyers. :-P

  17. Well, you can always look at teams in Cap hell and offer sheet their RFA's if you do not mind giving up draft picks when they do not match. Boston For example has Torey Krug. Signing him to an offer sheet has one of two possible positive effects.

This is a great point JoeT. I really hate the "i am your buddy" gm principle when it comes to offer sheets. Its BS to me. EVERY gm should be trying to make his team better by all the tools given to him. Why offer sheets are a taboo is beyond me. I can understand it in a non-cap world (the rich poaching on the poor), but in a cap world, fair game I say.

And for OldSchool- would you like our president and former GM Homer to do you wheeling and dealing?

  18. In any case, you will likely have to pay someone a draft pick to take him for future considerations on that contract

And there is the rub. As soon as spezza went to Dallas, I hung my head.

It just goes to show VLC  market value. Ottawa got some assets back. Dallas could have had Vinny for nothing.

Truthfully, I respect what Hextall is doing. He has plodded a plan and sticking to it. Making the playoffs this year will be fine, but he knows this is not a SC team in its current configuration and willing to be patient and bide his time to make the proper moves / adjustments. The Emery re-signing was a clear signal of this.

It is interesting in hind site to see how bad Homer screwed the pooch in regards to fiscal responsibility.

  19. This is like christmas with a GREAT looking (cap space) tree with nothing under it (no UFA signings).

What were your expectations? Just curious? You have 9+m in cap to play with, but some key positions to fill. How is the farm. This actually sounds like the dialogue (in reverse) with a pens fan regarding cap hit / space.

For me, don't get too enamored with the shiny new toy that just passed by.

I honestly don't know much about holland- i just know that your team always compete hard and not withstanding  significant injuries last year, could have made a decent run.

  20. but I wonder if he will get the same production with a faster Aves team.

What does a faster team have to do with it. We traded for a slow utility man (umberger) that can stay upright, so we could get faster. Just saying.

Inglina pots 25 next two years. His compete level is off the charts.

It rich to me in the third year, but so what.

So, Bruins are still in the penalty box, right, for the overage>?
