Here's the article where Jonathan Bailey suggests the Ristolainen/Konecny for Zegras and others deal.

I would be absolutely stunned if TK is traded.  It's not what Flyer management does.  Of course it would be the right thing to do if they're actually rebuilding.  But that is never what this franchise does.

Right...and you've learned nothing from Chicago, Tampa, Colorado, Pittsburgh, LA, Washington who've won 12 of the last 15 cups (and thats including Vegas who no other team can build like they did). 12 out of 14 sounds like pretty good way to build a team....but you keep dreaming your 2 of 14 is better.

If the Flyers futile attempts at building a champion since the cap came into effect doesn't show you they have no clue how to do it, I don't know what to tell you.

    Spot On!!!  👏

My only hope is that the organization doesn't double down on "we were this close" and end up abandoning the rebuild and go with a quick fix. That worries me the most because this is a franchise that does not want to do a proper rebuild - they refuse to take their lumps that other teams had to take.

You're very accurate.  The big question is why is this franchise so reluctant to do a proper rebuild?  Is it because they won't be able to sell as many tickets or any many new jerseys?  And who makes the decision on do a proper & true rebuild?  Is it determined by people like Briere or by NBC/Comcast?  I'd like to know.

The biggest decision for this team going forward is what to do with TK.

He can be a huge trading chip to help bring back a few pieces that can help greatly with the rebuild.

As we have seen with what happened to Laughton i am afraid they won't have the balls to pull the trigger on it.

So we might as well prepare for his extension. So when the first season rolls around on his new 8 year deal he will be 29.

And they will once again have a contract they will regret in about 4 years into or less.

    THIS ^^^^

I'd like to see that too, very much in fact.

But I'll settle for being entertained.

to be clear. I don't think the work is done here, the team can be improved and I'd love to see it.

    I'm not delusional.

I get zero enjoyment from watching a team get it's ass kicked with the "promise of better days ahead", did that with the Sixer and Orioles thanks.

I get zero enjoyment from watching a team quit after a thing goes wrong, which happened far too frequently in the Giroux era.

This season has been a near 180° turn from 2 seasons ago.

That's not nothing, and I'm sure as **** not going to grouse and moan that a team with 3 good players isn't lifting the cup.

Those 23 guys played their asses off this year and I'm grateful to have watched that instead of season 2 of the San Jose experiment.

And all of that is fine.

I would rather see a Cup championship.

It's nearly impossible to do both with the system that's now in place.  Nearly every team that has won a championship since the system change has sacrificed to do so.

The building is more full and more engaged than it has been in 6 years.

The management has made big strides toward repairing the relationship with the fans, they aren't pissing on our legs and saying it's from the lawn sprinkler.

And they seem to care more about that then winning a Stanley Cup.

With revenue sharing & the salary cap it's nearly impossible to build a real Cup contender without sacrificing enough to have top draft picks.

If you're happy with a little hockey excitement.  So be it.  I want to see a Flyers captain lift the Stanley Cup.

They never had to tank. They had more money than most.

They've never adapted to the league they insisted upon creating.

They keep giving out four year deals to players like Seeler and Deslauriers - at double previous rates - and committing themselves to Laughton and Sanheim - to remain a middling bubble playoff team.

Only this year, again, they're going in the right direction.

    No, really.

    Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

This a very true statement.   Especially the revenue sharing.  Their failure to adapt has led to them becoming a mediocre team.

    Some of us do.

    And some of us don't.

    I understand both sides.

Myself and only myself feels it would have been better to sell off assets (Laughton and Seeler) for whatever.

Not trade for #77 and just went with Ginning and Attard the rest of the season and let the chips fall where they may.

Hopefully with all that done it would have put them drafting at least around 10-12th.

    Not 14-16th.

But ol well fug it too late now.

Seems they are going to miss the playoffs and get a crappy pick.

So yeah NONE of us get what we really want.

    Fuggin Flyers

    :BrownBag:

That's because the Flyers care more about selling tickets than winning the Cup.  Plus, they've never made the adjustment when the league went to Revenue Sharing & the Salary Cup.  That along with their persistent "win now" attitude keeps them as mediocre.

I want bonus hockey aka playoffs for this team, but I also realize they're a one and done. Honestly, I would rather they have a chance to win the draft lottery, and be somehow able to pick first. It is so Flyers, that they fight their a*ses off ..only to play for a little over a week, in the playoffs.

The Flyers are experts at being mediocre.

I think between that signing, how Atkinson has panned out, and the Gauthier pick, Chuck Fletcher is definitely the worst GM in NHL history. I never thought anyone could approach Milburys insanity, but theres a new sherriff in town and his name is STUPID!

The only positive Fletcher has ever done was getting Tippet & a 1st rounder for Giroux.  Otherwise.....................

I think people like that he gets fired up and throws a fit....because we have nothing else to cheer about. His record speaks for itself...he's about as mediocre as the Flyers over the last decade. He's certainly the wrong coach for a rebuild. Which, we probably aren't really doing anyway.

It scares to me think of yet another dinosaur in management on the Flyers. This is a guy who loves to play Atkinson, Staal and Johnson, and thinks McDavid needs to change his game. Imagine a guy like that building a team? Yiiikes! But this is the Flyers, so he'll get promotion fired.

Correct!   Torts is an ok coach for a team that has been rebuilt.  But for a team that's suppose to be rebuilding, he's the wrong coach.  He also had way too much to say about who was traded & who wasn't.

The same guy that wanted to keep Seeler, benches players in front of their families and continually throws Atkinson out there will soon be "helping" to chose draft picks/trades/free agents.

This is the song that ne-ver ends

And it goes on, and on my friend....

We have to ask the question: Do they want to rebuild just enough to attract fans to buy tickets?  Or do they want to rebuild to win a Cup?  Looks to me like it was the former, not the latter.

My hope with the current management is that they are looking long term to build a winner the proper way.  It’s way to early to judge if they will be successful but similar to Hexy their hearts are in the right place and we are going to have to wait and see about how their long term plan unfolds.

I hope so too.  Having two very late 1st round picks sure isn't going to help though.
