  1. Ah, sorry I see what you are saying. I guess the answer would be yes if I needed a top forward a lot more than I needed a top d man. Obviously they could just take the top forward with the first pick, but if they traded the first pick, they could probably still get their top forward plus at least one more player.
  2. Hey, the way we are playing we may not have to trade up at all! But thanks, that was the comparison that I was looking for.
  3. No, I am trying to get Jones. If we have the 5th pick what would it take to trade for the 1st pick so we can get Jones.
  4. I know the obvious answer of "lose most or all of the remaining games and hopefully over take Florida (most likely) for dead last and hope we dont get screwed on the lottery for the first pick. What I want to know if is we end up with say the 5th pick after the lottery and Flordia has the 1st pick, what else do you think it would take to trade Florida for the first pick? 5th overall pick + ?? for the 1st overall pick?
  5. Drinking from the Cup, which your team has an excellent chance of doing this year, will make you forget all about last year. (even though I think handing out Lord Stanley in this joke of a season is an insult to greatest trophy in all of sports, but that's another topic!)
  6. Pens pick up Morrow and Murray in 2 days and position themselves as potentially the team to beat this year. How do they fit both of them under the cap when really ony giving up inexpensive players and draft picks? I love the young core that we have and if we can add a few missing pieces and keep most of the crew together we could be right back in the hunt with the Pens in a year or two.
  7. Ok, so Giroux isnt the best player in the world, I think we all know that. Never has been and probably never will be. He is a great player who just can't seem to find his game this year from what I have seen. I am beginning to think Lavy may have unintentionally done some real damage to G's head when he labeled him as the best player in the world in his post game remarks after game 7 of round one last year. He just hasnt been the same player since. He wasnt the same player in the NJ series and then he had the added pressure of the "C" thrown on this chest this year so now all of a sudden you have double whammy of being a young captain and being called out as the best player in the world by your coach. He just hasnt seemed the same since those words were uttered. The thing is we dont need him to be the best player in the world to be a great captain. Joe Sakic wasnt the best player in the world, Steve Yzerman wasnt the best player in the world, heck, Bob Clarke wasnt even close to the best player in the world but they were all great captains. If Giroux can get out of his head, find his heart, and play his game the way he did last year, I truly think he has the stuff of a great leader and captain for this team.
  8. Jeez, is the guy that bad? Could he do any worse than our existing D? I dont want him at 4.5 though, only if we could get him at 2.25. I know he has had a rough year but maybe all he needs is a change of scenery. What about Dan Boyle? Sharks might look to move him at the deadline.
  9. Any of you interested in Mike Komisarek? He has one year left on a deal at 4.5 mil but if we claim him off waivers I think we get him at a 50% discount and Toronto has to pick up the other 50%? At 2.25 mil what have we got to lose at this point?
  10. I wonder if there is any chance there is a substance abuse issue? I too think he looks totally lost out there and his overall play this year vs last year is night and day. I was so excited to have this kid on our team after what I saw last year but he needs to show us something again.
  11. Ruxpin - interesting perspective. you make valid points that any purist can identify with. I personally have felt like all sports should use technology to get a call right as long as it is practical. After listening to your points and being a purist at heart, I tend to agree with you so I will say that if a sport is to use technology to assist in getting calls right, then they should go all in and truly use technology to its utmost potential in expanded facets of the game OR they should drop it all together and live and die by human accuracy. I myself still lean towards using technology depsite being a moderate purist but I think that may be because I dont think I could handle the pain if a blown call or non-call directly lead to a Philly loss in a championship game. Imagine this scenario - the Flyers are in a game 7 SCF in over time and Giroux blasts a one timer off the rear crossbar that comes out as fast as it went in and and the other team collects the "rebound" and skates down the ice in an odd man rush and scores the Stanley Cup winning goal. The ref's call on the ice for Giroux's shot was no goal/off the post but instant replay clearly shows it went in. With instant replay we would finally and deservedly win the cup and end 38 years of heartbreak but without instant replay our Flyers and we fans would have to watch another team skate the cup in front of us yet again. The possibility of something like that happening is obviously minute but it is enough to make me think we should do whatever we can to get the call right.
  12. Based on that it was an illegal hit with initial impact to the head. He was a split second early on his delivery. If he waits that fraction of a second then he never leaves his feet and delivers a devasting shoulder to the chest in what would have been the cleanest, hardest hit of the year. Instead it was an illegal hit and worthy of at least a game, if not 2.
  13. I say he get's at least 2 games.
  14. Seriously?? There is no noun in the english language spelled "defence" (only as a verb) so why would the Canadian's spell it that way? Do they call their military budget "defence spending" too? Crazy Canucks!
  15. Not "defenCeman"!! Sorry, I see it spelled incorrectly all the time here and had to get that off my chest. Carry on.
  16. I have tto admit that I have been pretty much disinterested in this season and think it's a joke so I havent been following the games very much, but I just saw that JVR already has 11 goals this season! I for one really liked JVR and am happy that he is doing well in his new environment. As I said, I havent really been following the games this year so I cant comment on how valuable Luke Schenn has been to our team - maybe some of you guys could give me your opinion on that - but I would have to say that right now the Leafs are pretty happy with the trade. Hopefully it turns out to be a win-win for both teams.
  17. I should have read to the end of the thread but great minds think alike!
  18. Up until today I would say that you are right but with Harts out indefinitely with a foot injury it may force the Flyers hand to keep him up. I hope not because I dont want to waste a year of his contract on this joke of a season but it wouldnt surprise me.
  19. But Montreal owns his rights so I am guessing that we would need to trade players for him and then have to work out a contract on our own, correct?
  20. The problem with going after Subban is that we have to trade for him and Montreal knows how badly we need top young stud d-man (not even sure pk qualifies for that) so they have us over a barrel and we would grossly "over pay" for him in terms of what we would have to give up. I think this season is a joke anyway (though I didnt think the players would think it's a joke but that seems to be their mentality right now) so I would just assume we essentially keep the squad as is and let the youngs guys develop and gel together. There's a good chance this team doesnt make the playoffs anyhow and they certainly woudnt be considered cup contenders this year so I see no need to give up too much for one player that probably wouldnt have a big impact in their overall performance anyhow.
