    Minnesota North Stars 1967-1993   = 26 seasons

    Minnesota Wild   2000-2019+   = 18 seasons

Considering the popularity and growth of a franchise you would have to compare the current Wild to the 1984-1985 Minnesota North Stars.

If the Wild can make more significant push into the playoffs or even win a stanley cup sometime in the future, the feelings of fans may change more positively for this franchise.

I personally have fond memories of North Stars Hockey because of the arena, where it was located, the tailgating at the games, the atmosphere at Met Center,  It just was all different.  Less stale/commercial and more real.  The North Stars had bad teams yes but it was an experience going to those games.  Maybe its the difference between old time hockey and the newer product they are showcasing. Or maybe its my love for old hockey arenas vs the new ones.   I have to admit that I really liked watching gopher games at the old barn...

Agree with this 100% - tailgating in winter was awesome (and even better in springtime when they made Cup runs) - I also loved the original Williams Arena for Golden Rodent puck

Is that your way of calling yourself... old?

    🤔😉

Sure - I care not. But to say you are THE "resident WHA nostalgia fan" is pretty cheeky :)

And I will put my physical fitness up against anyone in here :)

Welcome aboard from the resident WHA nostalgia fan. Cool moniker!

Wait...what?  I was a n STH'er for BOTH iterations of the Fighting Saints (one corner, row 1 knees in full view of deflected slappers coming right at the glass boards)  and one who is steeped in the history of the rebel league...for the record

Did you ever hear Bob Costas' anecdote about Goldie Goldthorpe?

Yup - good stuff.  I remember that - and I also remember thinking that it was a good thing the game was outdoors that day in Buffalo - because between he and the Milbury Dough-Boy, - those two egos wouldn't fit in an NHL arena

I'm from Up North too, and was able to attend far more games (WHA and NHL) old Winnipeg Arena, always thrilling at their speedy wingers (once sat on an end rail seat and was able to get a high-five from the Golden Jet himself, Bobby Hull, back to receive an honour from the club) than I'd at the old Met Center where the North Stars long shined.

Icechipper - that "Hot Line" that the WHA version of the Winnipeg Jets had (Bobby Hull, Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson) is STILL to this day, the most electrifying line I have seen live...albeit at the St. Paul Civic Center (with the glass boards) not in the Peg.

  6. Some things never change :)  Glad you are here JTG

If I am honest (and I am) had there been message boards then - I would have been posting stuff aboot Orr and Beliveau all the time, as I loved them as much as you love Boeser

Come to think of it - I still do post aboot them ;)

  7. Oops, and a Marc Tardif Quebec Nordiques sweater.  Sorry so discombobulated....i really need to take inventory.

Tardif is the all time leading scorer in WHA history.

Same here. Got my Wild sweater one year after the "inaugural season" patch. No name or number on it yet (tho I was sorely tempted to put Skoula and minus-41 on it at one time..)

Also have a North Stars sweater and other items signed by former players from past Alumni Association golf outings, and a handful of late 80s / early 90s vintage jerseys that no longer fit due to increasing "musculature" of my physique..

It'll be interesting to see what Antti posts for unloading: my wallet develops a mysterious allergy to cash when confronted with vintage North Stars and Saints stuff.

I was a HUGE WHA fan...had season tix for both iterations of the Fighting Saints. I'll tease with the fact that I have 2 bleu (Shakey Walton and Dave Keon) and 1 Red (Mike Antonovich) Fighting Saints sweaters, plus New England Whalers (Rick Ley) Philadelphia Blazers (Derek Sanderson) and Toronto Toros  (Frank Mahovlich) 😊

  9. I've recently added a bunch to my sweater collection, including a signed Broten #miracle USA. I need to take stock of what I have (in two closets of my house) anyway to unload a few.  Will post when I do. It's too danged nice out this weekend (I LOVE 90's and humid!)

    Great collection Crease and Assist!

It's funny. Co-worker is a WSH fan. Asked him if he thinks they win the game tonight. All I got was 'shut up, don't jinx it!' 😂

Methinks they are cooked...unless Dino Ciccarelli shows up :)
