Wild Fans Speak: 2021-22 Pre-Season Edition: Part 3 of 3

Well since you brought the 'what if's' now is the part of the article where the panel talks about who they think will do well and who will flounder as well as predictions for the season.  In addition they talk about when they think this club will be a Cup contender.

I want to thank my panel for some great responses to the questions and thanks to all of you who have read the articles and given your feedback.  If it helps start conversations and gets everyone's hockey minds going again then I think its served its purpose pretty well!

    Good article thanks enjoyed it.

Suter also got a NMC in Dallas too.  (sigh)  Honestly, I hope the Wild just keep sending forecheckers at him all night.  I don't think he'll handle it well.

Just saw this made me laugh out loud good one

Prospect Roundup: The Standouts from the U-20 Four Nations Tournament

    Tony Ferrari

The host nation wound up finishing tied for the best record but ran away with the goal differential crown. The Czech squad had quite a few of their top names in defender Stanislav Svozil (Columbus) and David Jiříček (2022 draft) as well as top forwards Jan Myšák (Montreal) and Pavel Novák (Minnesota Wild). The depth for the squad that came to play was a big reason for their success though.

The aforementioned Myšák and Novák (Minnesota) were centered by Josef Koláček and they were the driving force of the team throughout the international U20 exhibition season, accounting for 46% of their offense over seven games this summer together. All three should be locks to make the World Junior roster and should be some of the team's top difference makers at the annual under-20 event.

And paying him $13 million just because he thinks he's worth that much after just 55 games is crazy.  Selling off a ton of players just to keep him around makes no sense.

What family problems?  Our team is getting better even without him.

Sure makes it a lot more fun watching the Wild with him but your right to much money.

I think if you're developing a player its important to have them in the situations you believe they will be best suited for their skillset, etc.  Having him play intermittently as the 7th defenseman and get limited power play time isn't a good way to develop a player you hope will be quarterbacking your power play.

By playing top pairing minutes in Iowa he gets that Top 4 look which I think what he projects into.  Or at the very least you determine whether he's really going to be able to carry that baton or whether he's capable of carrying it at all.

As for as Khovanov goes, and I feared this when I heard some of Torchetti's comments about him that he can be coachable.  He has to learn how to adjust, and not expect other teams to just change to fit hits wants and preferences.  I think Khovanov thought he was too good for the AHL, only to be humbled when he tried to play in the KHL.  Now he has to prove that there is something still there worth getting excited about or is he a mercurial prospect whose greatest barrier is his himself and his attitude.

Hopefully a wake up call the chip is off his shoulder and he buckles  down and starts listening. Its not like hes been playing hockey since he was three.

Again, more evidence to throw in the faces of those who still refuse to believe in the 'culture problem' #20 and #11 posed for this organization.

Some people only see what they want to see confirmation bias.

That would be nice. The player who has the most outstanding results will get more ice time. That strategy is able to create a better player's performance and sort of competition among players. And overall team's performance will get improvements too. Nashville's team was not able to pass 1st playoffs round for few seasons which leaded for them to change their strategy towards more progressive one. This also will develop more interest among the fans too.

Its the way it should be done earn your ice time.

An interesting article came up recently about our former 1st round#15 overall pick Luke Kunin. He is in Nashville now and played not bad at all together with Grandlund last season. That team has a good current strategy (no longer will professional resumes and contracts be the deciding factor in roles and ice time) according to the article:

Maybe we should use this too?

should have started that a couple of years ago

But this kind of double-standard treatment certainly makes it tough or rather difficult for Fiala to feel he's part of this team's plans when they seem to demand that he proves it while the other gets the keys to the castle, the team car, and anything else he wants and no demands that he prove anything.

Wild sign Dmitri Kulikov to a two year, 2.25M AAV contract.

    A standard, "safe" signing.
Kulikov started his career as more of an offensive defenseman, but now, at 30, has settled into more of a defensive role.

Hits a bit, blocks shots, shoots the puck if he thinks he can get one through.
Nothing spectacular here, but the cap hit is alright, his age, during the Wild's transition is about right, and he should be more of a help than a liability on Minnesota's blue line.

I guess we can think of him as a more defensive minded, younger Ian Cole that hits a bit more but won't get as many assists as Cole would.

    beggers cant be choosers.

Probably because they won't get term here with our two buyouts. I mean, nobody in their right mind would go to a team that gives less term/money than the other ones.

We need a 1C the most, but I wouldn't want to wreck the future for Eichel.

Your 100% right unless you thought that team had a good chance at the cup but that ain't the Wild. I was hoping we wouldn't get Eichel between his neck and what it would cost in picks and players no thank you.
