  1. exactly! hence why I agreed with the 8th point.
  2. bravo, reading that was fun! you rhyming fool. queue the turntable scratches
  3. 1. yup 2. not a problem as long as he keeps it directed at the opponents only 3. i'd only worry about Giroux on that one 4. yup (and that one is worth 2 bullet points) 5. that's funny, . even more so because it would be true 6. mmm, not sure i agree on this one unless 1 and 4 was the case. 7. okay, 2 bullets was plenty but yup 8. yeah they would so what's the point? IF this was a player the Fyers desired, the course to get him would be too painful given what they'd end up with and that alone is enough to stay away. IF for some reason he ended up in the O&B, at least Richards isn't around or there'd be some serious chemistry issues to work out.
  4. I agree with @Hexy27 and @flyerrod. I didn't like seeing Gagne go, though I understood the move at the time. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him back in the O&B but given the way he is so injury prone, I'd rather see him in more of a roleplayer role (no, not goon) than a top line forward. Of course give him all the PP time he can handle but 5 on 5 reduce his role to 3/4 line role. Jagr said last season when he played the 4th line that he loved it "no one touched me". Now of course Jagr doesn't always want to play those kind of minutes on those line but that statement reflects directly on what I'm getting at with Gagne. I could see him being a very effective time killer who has the threat of breakaway goals left and right and playing on those lines with reduced minutes could help preserve him. 3.5 unfortunately is too big of a chunk for that kind of role though which even if this scenario was plausible, I don't see it working. but hey, crazier things have happened.
  5. this is brutal news. I still can't believe it was 2 seasons ago that he was the Flyers best defenseman. Last year gets hurt and now this? how much longer do we have him? I mean, Achilles is real tough to come back from. I have no frame of reference of course but when you look at athletes in other sports come back from it, it looks rough... I can only imagine what it is like to skate on that kind of recovery much less walk or run. I supposed the boot could help that but again, I can only speculate. Has there been another NHLer of recent times having gone through this? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Bummer too because I really liked Mez's game 2 years ago and thought it was a real shame he had to have back surgery. Such a strong checker and of course, even though he came back for the playoffs, there was no way to assume he'd return to that physical game, I know I wouldn't right away. Now you have to assume he'd play a very zone friendly game loaded with stick checking.... another problem is though he may return to hockey, at this point I'd much rather trade him, especially since he is signed through next season. Won't even command a bag of frozen pucks at this point, not for $4mil at least. Sorry Mez, you were liked
  6. @idahophilly see http://www.hockeyforums.net/index.php/topic/38246-is-this-fantacy-hockey/ sry, couldn't resist
  7. I wish I've only been up an hour to this point. I've been up so long I'm ready to go back to bed.
  8. especially when you see the guy with the huge plus/minus has a lower point total than the other.
  9. yes, but I do think the money was a key cog as well. decent bump from last year despite showing an obvious drop off in production and effectiveness when it matters most. But good for him. I gained a lot of respect for the guy I used to loath the Flyers playing against
  10. I actually was cruising through this thread to see if anyone made this point before I put it out there. Clarke certainly did NOTHING to help that situation, all the nonsense in the media is evidence of that. But it was obvious to anyone paying attention that Eric's parents were completely overbearing to every team he played for. It wasn't until Clarke when they finally bumped into someone who pushed back and it got ugly. a DAMN shame too 'cause I loved Lindros. if only that mess and his rash of concussions (KEEP YOUR FREAKING HEAD UP!!!) didn't happen, who knows where things would have gone... I'd like to say cup but management was terrible at giving the team the rest of the help they needed. as I think about it, could you imagine Eric then playing in this league now with the way player are protected? scary to think what could've been
  11. I thought you wanted Homer to stop all of this "fantacy hockey" and stand pat with what we have just bustin' balls haha but seriously? I'm not sure. I actually agreed with staying what we have. There really ins't much left out there and with the core group of youth on this team, I'm ready to watch them grow together. If we could have added a big piece like Weber or someone else, then fine. But I don't really know what the point of bringing in any of this other marginal older players. I'm sure he has value but I think ya should stick to your guns and look forward to watching what we have now. Besides, with the kind of cap space the Flyers will have this season, they really could continue to try and wheel and deal players at anytime after the season starts! and like @jammer2 said: "If he was crappy before, he would be crappy on the Flyers, that's how things go for us" as I'm about to hit post, I am curious though. If the Flyers picked him up, where would you pencil him in?
  12. haha, i was thinking the same thing... of course that could be part of what "blew up in their face" still funny though
  13. this extension sounds good to me. The Flyers brand of hockey since he joined the team has been highly entertaining and there's no denying the success the team has had since he came on board. His systems aren't without their flaws though and I'm hoping this coming season we'll see a slight shift in his approach. I personally would like to see him have the Flyers continue their approach to a high powered offense but tweak it so the defense isn't weak like it was in the past. I'd also really like to see a lot less of the Flyers defensemen carrying the puck to the net. If they want to skate it up fine. They can even carry it into the zone if they have that much steam, but I would just cringe any time I saw Coburn take the puck into the zone and then continue to carry the puck behind the net. Why do that? He never really set anyone up out front with that move and it wasn't like he'd use his body to successfully establish the cycle, he'd just take it in way deep, then dump it off to someone before going back to his post. I think if that's all you are going to get out of that play, then he should be looking to dump it off closer to the slot and then get right back on the point. The way the example is now, he takes a forward out of position (someone needs to cover his spot) and the whole thing just takes longer to get back into a natural rhythm. If he or any other defenseman were putting up a decent number of breakaway goals then I wouldn't have a problem but as it is it just make him another grindy forward which isn't what they need. There's jumping in on the offense and then there's just being there, I'd rather him settle in on the point and worry more about booming shots on net from there then take himself out of position to gain almost nothing. Back to Lavy though, glad they got this done. Another benefit is he established his brand of hockey, and then last year the team transitioned in all of this youth. They have a taste of what to expect, now the team can grow and build on this system and a (hopefully) cohesive whole.
  14. right on. Limp wristed grip I could totally see. for some reason I read a little more into it. I've read interviews with previous heavy weights about their hands after their careers. I think it was Tony Twist who said he has a hard time growing skin around his knuckles cause of all the beating they took. I can only imagine all those helmet shots would do a SERIOUS number on not only the skin but the bones themselves (not that punching skulls is any more comfortable, but at least there aren't many edges to hit or openings to gash on)
  15. tough break on not winning the Jersey. I am curious though, what exactly did you mean by "not much left to shake"? Is he missing fingers or something?
  16. oh,and I guess I'll add the obvious... having Holly around to promote the Wives Carnival was always nice too. I still love the Coasty's Corner with her and Briere's then wife (who is NOT the looker) and you could just tell Coatsy was either getting reminded in his ear by the producer, he was reminding himself or both to remember to ask Briere's wife some questions
  17. I also always wondered why it was behind closed doors. Even if they couldn't air the thing live, at least tape it and show it at some other time. Like you said, it probably was legit but why give anyone a chance for doubt?
  18. along with about 15 other annoying one's you can't WAIT 'till they go away "here we go!"
  19. had to love good 'ol Riles, always "ready to rock" even though he was more of a punching bag than anything else, I have to admit, I kinda miss him.
  20. speaking of enjoying a warped sense of humor (something my wife tells me I possess as well), your avatar gets a good chuckle out of me when I see it cheers!
  21. amen brother. they've certainly priced me out of going to games. I used to have partial game plans for the Flyers but the cost of the tickets, parking, gas, the headache of traffic and god forbid I want something to eat or drink while i'm there... forget it. Like you, a nice TV and some reasonable beers on my couch is more than enough. I love going to the games though and miss it tremendously, but I'm not about to let my wallet get raped... plus, you never know what Flyers are going to show up and to shell out that kind of money on a throw away game makes the cost that much more sickening.
  22. don't forget ball puncher (as you noted in a previous post), to me that's just as important if it isn't wrestling, why is a man's hand going near another man's package during competition?
