  1. Fletch needs to fix this train wrack of a roster first. It's like keeping firing mechanics, one after another, after they fail to make a car without any workable parts run. This organization is so dysfunctional that it's not even funny anymore.

Wellllll....since you ASKED...in college I did pursue avenues in writing...journalism in particular, so that is probably where I get my long windedness and attention to detail.

You know, I've actually suspected that for quite some time. Your writing, and analysis in general, is on a professional level. It's almost unfair to the rest of us here.  But seriously, I always enjoy reading your comments.

Like you are in the top 6 in Conn Smythe and are being promoted to all Stars?

Or you took a break from 1 year leagues and are starting in Conn Smythe?

I don't recall which of the non-keeper leagues I was before... Could have been Conn Smythe, but I don't remember.  Just decided to take a one-year break.  Might come back next year if there will be openings.

Martin Jones??  Can he be traded AND get there in time?

Maybe for Cozens?  Seems fair to me.

Let them throw Jack Quinn in, and I would listen.  Oh, wait, I forgot, we have Fletch as the Flyers' GM.   Never mind then.

    Fair enough.
And, with the Oilers spiraling from leading the division to outside the top 8, apparently, they also say "why the ^%$@ not??"

And that's the thing, too.  Unless they can make a gigantic push in the 2nd half of the season, they almost have no shot at the playoffs.  The teams learned how to be successful against them: shut down their two-headed monster, and you have a decent shot at winning the game.  If only he can stay away from his regular foolishness, Kane will bring attitude and make the Oilers hard to play against. And they don't tie a boatload of cash into this.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained....

  6. Well, Samsonov seemed to be falling out of favor with Lavy for quite some time.  And from this, I am guessing they don't have much faith in Vanecek, either.  So I can see why the Caps would want to upgrade that position.  But this is a big hit to the salary cap.  Plus, I don't think it's a long-term investment since MAF is not a spring chicken.  I also don't think the Caps are contenders this year, which is what this trade would lead us to think.  If they are so down on both of their goalies, why not bring the kid slowly and see what he can do first? They have a decent prospect in Zach Fucale in the system. All in all, doesn't make sense.

They don't need those guys in fact those guys are the trade chips Chuckles will use to bring us a couple more 30 plus year old forwards and defensemen (from Minnesota of course) to add the the "core"...

...everything is going to be ok they have a plan...

    :BrownBag:

And in the process, to be complete, let's also throw in some prospects and 2nd round draft picks to trade for Taylor Hall and Zach Parise.

  8. Just so I am clear.  So Hayes is part of the "core", but their best d-man (Provorov) and young, premiere goalie (Hart) are not part of this "core"?

Hmmmm.  Where could I possibly get an idea that maybe - just maybe - this organization [how should I put it] doesn't have the first damn clue what it's doing?  Just wondering - why would I think that?

No indication they're thinking "rebuild" or anything like it. Scott said he doesn't expect a 2, 3 or 4-year process because they already have a "good corp."

Yes there is a strong corp of talent on the roster but A) there's not enough of them, and B) they don't play as a team.

Disappointing, yet a hardly unpredictable rhetoric. They won't change. Period. Move some names around, but the mindset is the same. This organization simply doesn't believe in rebuild.  It's not how they are wired. They would rather be mediocre perpetually rather than scrap several years for the benefit of building better.  Unbelievable.  Just unbelievable.  But as long as they sell tickets, why change anything!?

Maybe if they put more, oh, I don't know, EFFORT into executing and defending?

I don't know... Playing hard is certainly a must, but honestly, the lack of talent is so glaring that that I think right now, the Flyers would have no problem losing to an AHL team.  I really don't remember the Flyers ever being so terrible.

The Sabres do in fact look poised to finally get good, and possibly very good, but they've had that look before and it all fell apart quickly so who knows.

Devon Levi, who they got from Florida in the Reinhart deal is just tearing it up this year for the Huskies and has been invited to the Olympics for Team Canada. I believe he, along with Power, is a Hobe Baker nominee. If he emerges as a top NHL talent in a few years they could finally right that ship.

Yup! Completely forgot upon Levi, who is the 2019 MVP at the World Junior A Challenge.

Holy smokes... Power, Levi, Quinn, Tuch, Asplund, Jokiharju, Thompson, Krebs, Cozens, Dahlin, and Luukkonen... How can one not get excited about this group of young talent?  At the very least, they will be electrifying to watch - that much is a guarantee.

  12. And as we are talking about Buffalo, I don't see anybody mentioning Owen Power, the league's 1st overall pick last year, who is currently playing for the University of Michigan.

Look, I completely understand people who say "The Sabres have been rebuilding for what feels like forever, and they have nothing to show for.  Why should we get our hopes too high *this* time?".  OK, I get it.  I really do.  That organization failed their fans, which is why they have been having hard time selling tickets to their homes games for years. But I think unlike the previous years, they have a future core way too good not to bare fruits.  I just can't see why it wouldn't work in the long run.

It's two teams going in different directions, and the Flyers aren't going the right way.

That's the sad reality.  Buffalo is in a traditional rebuilding mode, and they are going about it the right way.  They have a future goalie stud in Luukkonen (that kid will be a star in this league), and a good, solid group of young players, like Tuch, Thompson, Cozens, Krebs, Jack Quinn, Asplund, Jokiharju, and Dahlin.  Some of them will be phenomenal players. Give this team 2-3 years and time to develop, and with a good coach and patience, the Sabres *can* be scary good.

The Flyers' current state is sad and depressing, because there is no direction.  I wouldn't mind for them to suck for several years if there was a plan.  But there isn't one.  Its a disaster.  Demolish it, get rid of rubble, grade the site, and start building from scratch.  There won't be a better opportunity for than than now.
