  1. He doesn't have the players others covet on good enough contracts thanks to the former guy. But...he's got 8 picks in the first two rounds the next 2 years. Lil' Paul McCartney is doing some work.
  2. I'm not going out and getting a sweet #24 Stadium series sweater anytime soon. But, I don't think the signing is terrible, it doesn't do anything to hamper any plan going forward in anyway. I'd have preferred one less year. I understand why they signed him. They have plenty of outs after 2 years, and in that time, ol' Nick will still be serviceable in his role. I don't begrudge the man getting paid a little bit. It doesn't move the needle for me either way. I don't view signing a good soldier to a modest contract as the harbinger of ineptitude that a lot of other folks do.
  3. I have a couple of thoughts about the Seeler deal, the first is after two years, that is a tradeable contract. Could the length mean the FO is hedging that the rebuild could take more time? Torts loves Seeler, uses him as exhibit A for the effort he wants to see. Having him around and not locked down with an Andrew MacDonald contract isn't the worst thing for a mostly young roster. Also, if somehow they're able to move on from Ristolainen then this signing becomes even less bad. And lastly **** Tory Krug, that gnat ****** with the girl's name isn't exactly killing it in Barbequeville.
  4. It's clear we value Seeler less than the managment does. That said. Trading the team's 2nd best defenceman in the midst of a playoff run doesn't exactly say "Going all in" this year. Also. Ivan Provorov has been turned into 2 1st round picks. I think that's pretty okay. Is it 9 picks in the first two rounds of the next two drafts? That's some ammo to get better with.
  5. @radoran Yeah without the first part, (those guys love him) the second part makes less sense.
  6. Those managment guys ****** love that guy. He wants to be a Flyer. I think we underestimate how much that means to this group of managers. I think the deal is for too long, it's not the worst thing to happen- but it's not the best either.
  7. Not to quibble too much, but Sanhiem and Konecny were younger guys- only Couturier was a part of the rudderless leadership group. And he was the most junior member. Torts chose Laughts for leadership because he's a Torts style guy. Laughton is only signed for one more year. I didn't include him because he doesn't fit the timeline. He was here but his voice was pretty far down the pecking order too. The turnover from the Giroux group, the Provorov trade and the ascension of the Travii has been good IMO.
  8. which one's? I see the core group as Konecny, Farabee, Sanhiem, York, maybe Tippett and Foerster and sadly Couturier. If 14 can return to 80% of his Selke self, that's not a bad player- but I don't view him as the epicenter of the team anymore, I think that gravity has shifted towards #11. I think that's a pretty decent group of players to add additional good to very good players with the next couple years of multiple first picks and a ZOMG talent. No young guys are getting shipped out, a 5th round pick was traded away, that's not going to change the course of the franchise if we're being honest. I think this group of Konecny and younger players is a pretty good base to start building onto. It is an interesting time to be a fan of this team. It's been fun seeing everyone's perspectives.
  9. I said in the chat that's for a year longer than I'd have preferred. The full no trade clause is for the first 2 years, and he's not a bargain anymore. He's going to be the 7th guy soon, he'll be fine in that role and I don't think his .aav will be crippling. not wild about that 4th year though. In two years that's a tradeable contract. If he continues to be a guy Torts points to as an example for how to compete and be a teammate and if the lessons are learned by the talented youngsters, it might not be the worst thing. Dude wanted to be a Flyer, right or wrong I know that goes a long way with the Danny Jonesy.
  10. I'm not taking it personally, because I'm not, not trading the players you want traded for a return you have imagined. I don't see a team going all-in this year. This management group was never going to accept losing for the sake of draft picks. They just weren't, they've said so, they are trying to build a culture in addition to adding talent, **** was really ****ed up around this club. Stripping all the things down to nothing accomplishes only half of the goal. Even then, does it accomplish anything beyond maybe better odds of an opportunity to pick a talented player? I've seen a bunch of talented players on that New Jersey team step on their cranks all season. They are Lord of the Flies over there. They have talent but there aren't any voices telling the talent what to do, how to be a pro. They kinda suck actually. I watch the Sixers, been a fan since the Dr J days...they are no closer to winning a 'chip today than they were at the beginning of the "process". Watching talented players underachieve does nothing for me. I know from interviews the Danny-Jonsey-Torts headed monster thinks culture is too often overlooked in the race for talent. Knowing that, it makes sense they would want to keep a few older guys that compete hard around to show the young guys the way. Bill Beliceck was a "culture guy" he had Brady I know, but the point is he won with a star and guys that bought into the culture and he won for decades with that formula. From my seat here in the 'taint of Pennsyltucky trading Walker for a 1st in '25 is better than I was expecting. Taking back a soft player with one year on his contract is the cost of doing business. The 5th rounder? I mean okay Noah Cates is a pretty good one, but how many really make the NHL? And it's not for a few years it can be recouped. I don't see what's happening now as Homer 3.1 or Fletcher 2.0. Even if I squint I can't
  11. Seems like maybe more things are going to be happening. Even if it's nothing- one year where the team is going to be non-competitive with Floaty Johanson on the roster isn't going to kill anyone. If they resign him...Then I'll join the mutiny. The maths of the waivers makes me wonder if something else is happening.
  12. Or.... or is it, Attard isn't an NHL defenseman, there is a reason he didn't make the team out of camp and wasn't a call up before now. Same with Ginning. You feeling me? This is not the criteria I'm going to use to determine the organization is fukced up. YMMV
  13. This reads as pretty black and white, giving an out to those living in "they're all full of sh!t" land. It's not realistic in any timeline. Based on what I've heard in interviews, to trade Scott Laughton the deal needs to be stupidly in the Flyers favor. I'm not counting on that. Walker is found money and should be traded for a maximum return if possible. If he remains, questions will need to be asked about just what the hell is the plan? He's the guy that will bring back the best return. He is the guy to sell high on if ever there was one. Seeler, what's a #7 worth? a 3rd? Does that move the needle as a sweetener in a trade? Does a 3rd pick make the NHL? Where is his value? The ideas floated where he and Walker get traded together iare intriguing and I'd love to see it. Especially if a top 6 forward prospect and a first are the return. Will that happen? I hope so, but will it? Seeler should be cheap @ 2.7 aav for 3 years? something in that range. That's not killing anything with the cap going up. As long as they don't give him Andrew MacDonald money or term, I think it will be fine He is the coach's pet, Jonesy loves him. They think Seeler's effect on the younger guys in the room is profound and they want to keep him around as an example of the way they want these young guys to go about being a pro. If there are plans to try to move the rejuvenated Ristolainen around the draft or F/A, I think I would be satisfied by the direction of the club.
  14. Right, some where in here I said I'm okay with 2 older dudes , that's counting Sanhiem as an old dude. If one of the unholy trent-ity remains I'm not burning the sweet sweatshirt Mrs Mojo bought for me. I won't be happy if after the draft and free agency more than one of Risto, Walker and Seeler remain. RE: draft picks...I never think of the Flyers using picks in trades well. It's been here's a 2nd rounder for this roster player we don't need anything back. The point you made regarding picks is well taken and something l didn't consider.
  15. @radoran I don't mind having another "senior" player in the d-corps to go with Sanhiem. I would mind 2 guys over 30 signed to anything over 2 or 3 years. I wonder too who the FO would target in free agency ? I don't think this group wants to build through the draft exclusively, so which guys would fit their plan in the coming years.
  16. Couple of questions for anyone. What would be considered a good deal for Sean Walker what would be acceptable? - so two answers for that one. Now apply that question for Nick Seeler. Also, provided a deal is being worked on to trade Ristolainen in the off-season and is realized, which of the two would be the least troubling in your opinion to keep around? I continue to think both UFA players should be sold "high", but is there an offer too low to be considered? Is the team better off with 2nd and 3rd round picks ? If those are the offers? Also while i do admire the team's loyalty to Scott Laughton. The guy has made himself into a valued NHL player. He has stepped into a leadership void since the coaching change, what is the offer that breaks the spell? Everyone seems worried that nothing happens at the TDL, what needs to happen to assuage the fear that we're looking at same old same old?
  17. Kid's shot is legit. How about them wheels on the breakaway?. Woo-hoo Like I said, I like this young fella's game.
  18. I think you missed the point I was trying to make. The players are playing to win. They aren't waiting for some boy to save them. The attitude I've seen seems to say they think they're good enough. I think Jonesy remembers that from his playing days. I think that's what he's saying. I don't think he's lying to anyone about anything. Now, he could be withholding information. I don't view that as the same.
  19. I don't see where the lie is. Of course in the locker room of a professional hockey club the idea of go out and lose or don't get hurt is a non- starter. Also if I'm an NHL player I'm not hoping some boy is going to come along and save the team. My attitude would be **** the rebuild also. I seriously don't think the front office shares the view with the players.
  20. I've never been a Jack Edwards fan, going all the back to when he was on ESPN. He is an "awesome" homer announcer. That said. Is he okay? He sounds like late-stage Harry Karry on this broadcast. Does he have health concerns? I don't want to make too much fun of him because he sounds really ****** drunk.
  21. I don't think so either, he's never going to be Samu Tuoamaala but he's smart enough to find space and skates well enough to get there. I like how strong he is on the puck and what a good forechecker he is.
  22. I heard on PHLY there are a number of free-agent POW goalies hitting the UFA market this year. That's where I'd try to find a backup, I sure as hell wouldn't spend any sort of asset to get a guy now. I like Ersson, he's got that dawg in him, he's not a flake. I love how competitive he is. I think he's the #1, finding a dude like David Riitch or Ilya Samsonov for 15 starts a year until an in-house option becomes viable is the way I'd go.
