Until this last playoff season I'd have confidently said Fleury is a better goaltender. I think he's proven that he can be overplayed and got too many games last year. He was tired and it showed in his disastrous play in all but about 5 periods in the series. I will watch Price closer though. Like I told Mojo maybe what I saw were just growing pains and sold him down too quickly. We'll see what the big money does to his season. Hope he steps up though. I DO like his character and mental toughness.
That may be true. I try to look at goalies for consistency when I evaluate them too, not just flashes of skill. I see Price as a guy with great talent but that's been inconsistent enough that he's been in and out as starting goalie a LOT. They brought in Halak... But maybe now is his time to shine. I'll trust your judgement on this one and try to watch him more closely.
His offensive output was great that series... My problem is he's there in a defensive role and not covering his defensive assignments. That includes special teams. The five goals I refer to we're obviously a mix of special teams roles too, and I mean specifically his man on coverage that he was one stride behind or failed to adequately tue up or stick check. I don't expect perfection, but five in three games? Is he responsible for losing the series?? No... But do you need your "shutdown" center to remember his defensive role? Yes. I like Staal as a player. I like his reach and his scoring touch. He's just overrated defensively. He doesn't give the effort on D so many give him credit for. He'll be great as #2 center in Carolina. He won't be in the shutdown role there. And Sutter will make the Pens tougher to play against if he plays the way he did there.
Interesting stat.... "It isn’t based solely on points and the ratings are in 5v5 situations only, not PP or PK. Over last 3 seasons Suter has 8g, 60pts at even strength and Carle has 6g, 85pts. That is a factor, but it also factors in team performance when they are on the ice vs when they are not." Well I wasn't comparing him to THAT deal... Lol. Just goaltending contracts in general. I for one thought Bryzgalov was better than Price until this past year. Lol. Now I dunno what to think.
And God bless 'em for it. They have a great talent and for some only a few years to make it big. If all these teams are offering big $$ for them and they can choose where they go, I don't blame them for not rushing in. I only wish I could be in the same position sometimes. Sure it makes it tough on teams waiting to hear, but those teams know the risks going into it.
Yeah agreed. Staal was directly responsible for blown assignments that led to five Flyer goals in the first three games. Maybe with a guy who accepts the role more as a defensive center man would have made a difference. Either way I guess we're all waiting for the Parise & Suter decisions now.
Actually it won't. You're talking 6.5 a year and both teams have that readily available. I'm curious about the bonus money everyone is talking though. Sounds like ridiculous numbers.
I think though Sutter won't have the offensive touch, obviously, he'll be better defensively than Staal. That will make the third line not more dangerous, but tougher to play against.
There's no doubt the kid shows great potential, but if bringing Ryan in now boosts your shot at the Cup would you take that trade? If Couturier develops into an all star in say... Two years, how do you envision your roster to be by then?
Nah can't blame him for wanting more ice time. He's a solid #2 center pretty much anywhere but here. I'm glad he's gone though because I don't think he was the defensive gem so many others believe him to be.
The Penguins haven't made any big news in the first two hours of free agency but have decided to bring back enforcer Steve MacIntyre. He has signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Penguins. The value of the NHL portion of the contract is $625,000. MacIntyre, a feared fighter, played 12 games with the Penguins last season and 24 games in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He was suspended for four games in March while playing for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton because of an attack on an AHL goaltender. He has also played for the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers.
My issue with the comments made has nothing to do with diving, Crosby or the Pens. As pointed out everyone has them and an opinion to go with them. My issue is that he doesn't post his opinion without feeling the need to insult me as he does it. I post here to debate hockey topics and intelligent discussion about the sport. The personal insults are just childish and take away from the discussion. So I replied saying as much and get more of the same. I'll gladly discuss Letang's diving, or Hartnell's or anybody else's... I just prefer to do it without telling you you're all idiots or some other stereotypical remark because you follow a different team or sometimes see things through orange and black as I can in black and gold.
You're a very angry person. I'll love 12 years of watching someone you clearly hate so much torturing other teams in the league. I also wish nothing but health to ANY player... Even nose dive in the crease trying to draw crosscheck penalties Hartnell. Timo goes down as readily as Letang because he's also a finesse skater, and Contact throws those guys a lot. I like Timo... Even used him for years in fantasy hockey, but a spade is a spade. No need to get angry about it all.
