@J0e Th0rnton Hey Joe....welcome. I bet u live in a beautiful place.

@Quint Welcome...I hope you are as pessimistic as everyone else. I wouldn't want the board to become too positive.

@aziz Well I guess I love the illusion that Hartnell offers something to the team. Well the solution is...play him with good linemates and he will produce....is that so bad?

I guess I am a big idiot, because I love Hartnell and what he brings to the team. If it is that easy to score garbage goals, then why doesn't every team have a player to do that. They use to say the same about Tim Kerr and his "garbage" goals, but he managed to get lucky and put in 50 a Season.

Cujo in hindsight.

I am still not freaked out by any of the contracts....not my money ...but people are being awful hard on Streit. I am not that worried. Who's to say he won't stay a productive player until he is 40. Others have played until 40 or later and I haven't heard the concern from other teams fans about those players. I am very happy about getting Morin and Hagg. I am a very happy Flyers fan right now.

Hey MJ...I am not convinced that this is it and we could very well lose one of the young guys in a trade to shed some cap space eg Coburn. I do hope Flyers Management does not ruin what has been a great week for the Flyers and their fans.Schenn, Couturier, Voracek, Simmonds, Laughton, Cousins all remain in the orange and black and system. Dead weight has been removed from the roster. The defense and the imagined lack of size up front have been addressed via free agency at cap friendly numbers. The situation in goal while not resolved can only be considered an upgrade, without throwing a pile of years and money at it. The high-ish draft picks resulted in adding 2 of the top 35 skaters in the world to our defense ? Our best player will not have a distraction regarding his expiring contract, okay it's for more money than we'd like but if 93pt G shows up no one will care that much.
Like @JackStraw mentioned somewhere here, the team is trying to have it both ways, keep the young promising guys and still ice a winning team. To my eye today it looks as if the management has pulled that feat off.
I like the moves the team has made, in 3 years more moves will be have to be made , no team is static or frozen in time, injuries occur, guys make surprising improvements or regressions. It is the nature of assembling a group of people to do anything.
The arnchair GMing is fun I enjoy the discussions we have, but I am finding it curious for so many to be so negative about this offseason's transactions.

Well....if I didn't see that clip I would be curious about the pick.

An offensive upside, should in future produce 10 goals 25 assists at least and this kid will avg
2 goals 10 assists if he makes it to NHL
Don't know where u are getting this logic? You were so big on Mantha, I thought u would be excited by a Q league player Morin. What a kid is now at 18 doesn't mean what he will be in the future.
-
Three I appreciate.... Parent, Lindbergh, Hextall.

Don't think he would fit into our cap space. Would love to have him. He is not wearing #4 for the Flyers. :0)

To me, I think they have other plans for Read, in a deal that they feel is more significant for the team then acquiring Bernier. I think the draft will be very interesting for Flyers fans.
-
I would really hate to lose our 11th overall pick because we do need to add a young forward or defense prospect as well.
-
So with this signing, I am trying to figure out what our game plan is for the future. Does this tell us we are going for it? Does this tell us that we are waiting for our young players to develop and just bidding the years away? I guess we will have to see the future moves of the team during and after the draft? After the buyouts. I am thoroughly confused as to the direction of the team.
-
Top 5 would be great, but I think we should either go all in for #1, but if not stay at 11.

ahhh....got me there.

Will u guys respect me in the morning if I said package Coburn to Colorado for the 1st pick?
Or...Meszaros to Edmonton to move up....don't know if Nurse is still there at 7.
-
Maybe wrong thread, but I still think we move up in the draft and with a Streit signing, they might take a forward, with the thinking that we are set on D. Not saying I agree with that.
-
Wow..tough crowd. People hate this deal, but what would u folks rather do as an alternative to this move? Just curious on your thoughts.
-
@murraycraven The part this is maddening is we were so close to just naturally being in that #5 slot. We don't pull the trigger on the Mason deal (which was great for the team, just not our draft slot) and we are probably picking 3-6. Sooooo very close. Now we are basically talking about giving up prized commodities because we got hot at the wrong time. No use crying over spilled milk, but damn, it's enough to make me pull what little hair I have left from my scalp!!!
Yes and there was a bunch of folks on here that couldn't see the big picture and couldn't handle losing some insignificant games late in the Season. I hope this people aren't crying now. It does aggravate me to no end.

I normally agree with u on most subjects Flyercanuck, but that trade would be a steal. B. Schenn is still unproven and with the chance of getting MacKinnon, Jones or Drouin. I must be really biased about the Halifax players, but man, I think I would trade Coburn, Schenn and the 11th pick for the 1st pick to get my hands on MacKinnon.
-
Yeah after watching Zadorov in the Memorial Cup, I am not as excited about him. I don't know anymore. I am still hoping for the miracle trade up to the top three somehow. Maybe we can trade Fedotenko again for a top 5 pick.
-
Anthony Mantha is a poor man's Mike Bossy, you cant have a whole team of grinders you need guys with skill to go with the bangers, remember Rick McLeish
I watched Mantha this year and was not overly excited by him. I would be pissed if we took him with the 11th pick.

I was surprised to not see Erne's name among the ISS top 30 that came out yesterday. I wonder what's that all about....Erne was a a 1st round pick throughout most of the year, usually in the top 20. I figured he'd go in that 15-22 range.
Tidbit of interesting connection between Erne and Nathan MacKinnon. Erne was a second round pick in the QMJHL draft of the Halifax Mooseheads. Rumours were Patrick Roy and his Quebec Remparts had a deal for him to come to Quebec Remparts. The Moose used this leverage to trade him to Quebec and with the return they got, Quebec's first round pick and more to Baie Comeau to get Nathan MacKinnon.

I actually don't mind the signing. I figure Homer has a lot more hockey knowledge then I do. I find folks on here tend to blow some things out of proportion. Just my opinion.
