Which is fine too because they only need stability in the bottom 6 and i think they have guys down there who can do that in a pinch.

The bottom 6 (NAK especially) have responded extremely well.  Wouldn't kill us to add a piece to it.  Just not for any great long term cost.

With Nylander's salary there will need to be more going to Toronto....and i ain't moving Sanheim or Myers. It's not happening.

Ghost plus the pro-rated cap hit likely gets it close enough to handle for this year.  Next year gets tricky because you'd essentially need to dig up 2.5 million to keep him.  Braun and Elliott are automatically up (though I see Fletch trying to bring them both back-Braun likely take a pay cut, Elliott likely stays at a similar range) Pitlick is also up and can likely get himself a job elsewhere for more cash (another reason Fletcher might be looking at Kase).

I think the room can be made to keep him, it's just a matter of how much of a raise Myers is in line for and if Fletcher can move JVR at any point.

I'm not buying it my next door neighbor is a Cane die hard actually from Raleigh and said he is a soft perimeter players who isn't fast (his actual words was a big pu$$y).

There is a reason teams weren't lining up for a 6-4 227 winger...think about it. But hey i guess we'll wait and see. But for a kid of his so called skillset who is just 22 they should have been able to land a very very good defenseman.

If he was any good he should have been able to beat out Brock Mcginn and he couldn't. I trust my neighbors opinion.

    We'll see.

Keane is the guy I was saying is actually pretty good, not Gautier.

And I agree with you.  I'm saying I'm not sure I'd have made this trade if I'm the Rangers.

I certainly don't feel like we lost out as a Flyers fan.

If they move assets it need to be for center depth not more wingers...unless it's for a sniper and Kase isn't that.

He only has 3 more goals than NAK with twice as many games.

Flyers need some insurance for Patrick...who even if he comes back no telling how long it last. I think you can plan for his replacement till he shows otherwise then worse case you can trade his replacement (so it's ok if his replacement is signed for next year too).

Just my opinion and you don't have to agree...and this is just in case Frost needs more time too.

No I totally agree, I just thought Kase is a decent player.

I agree on the center issue.  The problem there right now feels like this:  Any player that's actually an improvement at Center has a cap hit that requires trading Ghost AND is likely a rental.

A player like Domi or Kapanen who is a definite improvement over a Pitlick or NAK (who are playing well) would likely be worth trading Ghost because they're under contract for a while and RFA... but are any of those teams likely to move those guys?  No.

We're talking about all this because Fletcher's talking to people and the deadline is next week, but increasingly, I'm just not feeling like the Flyers are going to make any deals.  You might see one with a pick or prospect for a depth forward like Kase as an insurance policy heading into the stretch.  That seems more like Fletch's style.

Then again, if Toronto wants to trade Nylander for Ghost and a pick...  bring it.  But right now they're feeling like they're still in the hunt.  Which they are because for some god forsaken reason, Carolina and Columbus are in our division.

Side note:  I just noticed that the Devils are the only team in the metro with a negative goal differential (and boy howdy is it negative). They're also the only team with a losing record.   But that's kinda nuts.

There is more to the AHL than scoring points....i'll give you T.J. Brennan.

    I'll give you T.J. Brennan.

Yes, but this kid's actually just pretty good.  He's also only 20 years old and just seeing his first taste of pro hockey.

IMHO this is a pretty big gamble on the part of the Rangers who must be pretty secure in their D prospect pool to pull this deal.

  5. 11 hours ago, RonJeremy said:

Gauthier was their first round pick in 2016, he had 26 goals last year and has 24 now and 11 assists in 44 games in the AHL. Hes a 6ft 4 227 lb Right Wing/Center. The Rangers gave up a prospect who was a third round pick, Joey Keane. We should have tried to get him. He was a highly regarded prospect.

They are now our major competition.  They're looking for pieces to help them beat us.  It makes no sense to trade with a team who is focused on taking you and mostly only you out.

    10 hours ago, OccamsRazor said:

There is a reason all they got was Joey Keane for him.

    Who?

    Exactly.

Keane is like their Friedman.  He's outscoring Friedman actually.   Looking at the rangers, i have no idea why he wasn't up actually.

Ok, but I'm not talking about one shot. The team has a good nucleus for several years. That's why I also mentioned about not trading for rentals, but for guys to play there awhile.

You’re a flyers fan.  How well does a good nucleus with one and a half d-men tend to work out?

I’m saying they have this year if Reilly comes back strong and then they have work to do in the off season to maintain that window.  If they get 2-3 Decent D-men, the.mn they’ve got a big window open. If not, then they’re still searching for the key.

Sure but it's not like they were going to trade either of them to Philly for what we wanted to give up anyway.

They’d be wise to consider Ghost (plus a pick for Kap) now or Hagg in the off season.

they’ll want Myers or Sanheim, but that’s not happening.

I’ll go a step further and say that if Fletcher should move Ghost now if he gets a good offer.  Definitely in the off season if not.

It’ll be increasingly hard to get much for him throughout next year and Then Seattle will draft him for nothing.

CBJ disciplined but lack top end talent especially with Jones and Atkinson now out. They play damn hard but are out of gas.

The Flyers are manic depressive.  They usually play a good second half, but can be awful in the first lately.

The injuries may have the Flyers come out underestimating the remainder of the Jackets... though home ice is good the the Flyers this year.

so even though those people are most likely smarter than us, there isn't a definitive treatment.

There are lots of medicines too, though I'm not sure the NHL allows them.  These are...  spotty at best from what I understand.

I'm not at all opposed, I just still don't see where Crater fits well.

You're down a LW and adding a C/RW. Move KNX to LW?

Moreover, JVR at 30 is a year removed from a 27 in 66 season, while Crater's 35 and been in decline for several years.

Carter fits if Patrick can't go.  That's about it.  You don't have to trade JVR right now either, you would have to LTIR Ghost until I think the playoffs which isn't particularly good unless you plan to use for just fill in duty and hope he doesn't screw up too badly.

All this said, I was far more interested in Toffoli than Carter.  Now that's off the table (for less than I'd expected), I'm guessing this is a moot point.

Does Hextall have anything to do with the Kings? I don't see him on their management page.

If it's for two more years of Carter, I'd think that's not good news from the Patrick side of the equation. Carter, I suppose, can play wing, but then we run into the logjam at RW (Jake/KNX) and moving a LW (JVR) doesn't really help that. I'm not sure I want to move KNX to the LW given his current success.

JVR makes some sense from LA's perspective. A 30yo with a 30-goal pedigree. I'm just not sure that his $7M offsets the $9.9M enough going the other way.

Yes, Hextall is with the Kings again.

I'd do it for JVR and his 4 years. Not that I want Carter...I just want rid of JVR. two is better than four when it comes to contracts you don't want.

Bingo, and Hextall is notorious for making trades for things down the road (aka taking on 4 years of JVR in exchange for draft picks).  Of course Hextall isn't the GM, but since the Kings are in a similar position to where the Flyers were 6 years ago, they may be more apt to listen to him.

Long story short though this apparently wasn't for Toffoli who just want to Vancouver for jack and squat... er I mean a couple of prospects.  The market for the rental player is clearly way down.

I'd reiterate, I'm not terribly interested in Carter.  I'd take him if Patrick couldn't go all year or next or whatever, but even so, I don't think there's an exchange that can make the cap room work.  Even if you dropped Bunny (they'd have to) they'd still have to LTIR Ghost.

They've got Rielly, Barrie, Muzzin, Dermott, Sandin. That's far from what I'd call "not much" on D. Actually, if they could land one good 2 way, they'd be looking pretty good. easier said than done, but that's a lot better than having not much.

Reilly's on LTIR and of the rest, only Sandin in under contract past this year.

Reilly comes back in a month so that leaves about a month of the aforementioned squad together.  That's not a huge window.

The Leafs window is now open. They've got lots of firepower up front, some good pieces on D and a goalie (when healthy). Draft picks are for years down the road.

If you're happy with mediocrity...that's what they should do. Otherwise it's go for it time over the next few seasons. IMO.  Waiting for those picks to develop doesn't make sense to me when you have Mathews/Marner/Tavares(not getting any younger)/ Rielly/Muzzin/Anderson/Nylander etc. It's tweak time...not rebuild time.

I don't think their window is quite as open as it seemed last year.  This sounds odd considering how good they are up front, but they really don't have much on defense and they don't have much help on the way.

In the off season once they pull a D man or two in, Then it'll open back up again.  They may squeak into the playoffs.  I don't mean that their season's done, I just mean that despite all the amazing talent at forward, they're not a terribly complete team right now and they're about to have some huge question marks making that completion more in jeopardy.

See should have traded Johnsson while you could have now Kapanen has taken him out in practice and he is done for the year.

Now down one less trade asset.

That means we can't get Kapanen or Johnson.  Not good for us either.

Apparently Doughty is quite the partier. He showed up super hungover for the Olympic gold medal game in Vancouver (Richards mentioned that on Spittin' Chiclets).

Don't remember ever hearing any criticism about him.

Folks in LA might be a little more used to young punks having more money and getting more **** than they do.

  17. Anyone see this last night?

Apparently there are legit rumors about Toffoli and Carter.  I'm not really interested in sending Ghost for either one, and if it ain't Ghost, it's JVR (who conveniently had another monster game) otherwise the cap won't work.    Unless... maybe they LTIR Ghost for the year and bring him back for playoffs?

I dont know why NAK is not on the PP, he makes great passes, has a great shot and most of all , has a scorers mentality and a great sense of where to go on the ice for an open shot. Our PP is so stagnant,  all the passes are telegraphed , its like slow motion and there is no movement or rotation on the ice. Our plays are so predictable , we arent fooling anyone.

I like how AV did this last night.  He put out a scrub PP unit at the end of the game and just as JJ was calling it a "classy" move, they scored.

It think they might as well keep trying it!

     Bingo!

The guy was excellent at getting into passing lanes and breaking up plays with his stick. Being non-physical was another reason I believe....though most goal scorers don't hit much.

I'll say this for Carter, he sure as hell started to hit for the Kings.  Dude threw himself around to break up plays and create chaos entering the O-zone like a little tiny bit not unlike Lindros during both of their cup runs.  It was impressive.

Wish he could have done a little more of that here, but then again, that might be the difference between Sutter's approach and Stevens' & Laviolette's approaches.

Stevens was all about shutting down passing lanes and Lavvy was all about forechecking pressure and both systems were monsters on the transition.  Neither was very big on physicality.

I think when you mix this with the partying gossip, you had the perfect storm for the Philly fan base.

Philly's sports radio and media really don't help that condition.

I never understood the partying thing.

If it gets in the way of games or practice or their overall health, then the coach or management needed to step in, but otherwise, these are 20-something kids most of whom never went to college or lived in a city with any kind of a "scene".

Showing up hung over all the time and hence reducing your efficacy was a player is a problem and if the team can't keep an eye on that or step in with corrective measures, then that's really on the organization IMHO.

But people seem to get jealous that Richards and Carter got to party and get it on with attractive young women... which... come on, really?
