  1. Hands down for me it's Shelley - because he's eating up a valuable roster spot and cap space and contributes nothing. At least on ice where these guys are supposed to earn it. Then I'd have to say Bryz - I just want him to consistently play like he's worth the $51 million he's getting paid. Followed closely by Simmonds, in third.

  2. could you have scripted a better first night back after missing 60 games?

Aha!! Scripted. Interesting. I'm sensing a conspiracy. I knew Bettman wouldn't let Crosby's return just fade quietly into the night with some mediocre game. That explosion of hockey "skill" in his first game back after a full year off with a brain injury was courtesy of the on ice officials and the League. I mean, who does that? Is he REALLY this good???? Hehe. I'm just kidding. I think.......

I do know one thing, it doesn't bode well for the Flyers. As much as I hate to say it!!

  3. 3rd, Unrelated, but I know it's a big deal that Crosby is coming back but yanking the Boston/Sens game off Versus at the last minut is bullshit. THAT's why people have a problem with Crosby! How about all those fans in those cities who were looking foward to seeing their teams play on national TV and can't now...??? Crap move. That's the NHL saying some franchises are more important than others.

    Amen, brother!

  4. I don't know if I'm ready to fire all things yet, but these are games we should be winning. The game (well, two games) against the Jets and now against Carolina. These are the supposedly "easy" points that we need to be banking now against teams at the bottome of the standings that, theoretically at least, we are better than.

It doesn't help that we were missing Coburn, Pronger, and Jagr. Although Pronger lately.......

Anyway, I'll hold off on making any fire or trade suggestions for now, but something needs to be done. How about a little more PP practice. It's not like we didn't have our opportunities. We just need to make them count. The PP was abysmal.

  5. I hate Shelley. I hate when he plays. I hate how he plays. I hate that he's taking up a roster spot for a better player. I hate how he adds nothing on the ice. This was a horrible signing. But I love the fact that he's been benched for tonight's game. That's awesome! Go Nodl.

  6. Bettman will send out a memo to all officials saying that if anyone gets near #87 it is a 5 minute major penalty. If someone should actually check him, it will be an automatic 3 game suspension from Shanny.

I was thinking the same thing. What color will his "no-hit" jersey be for the games??? That said, I'm looking forward to his return. It's no fun beating the Penguins if Crosby ain't in the lineup.

With Ovie having a meltdown in Washington and with Crosby potentially plagued by concussions for the rest of his career, who becomes the new face of NHL hockey? Who does Bettman choose to cozy up to now???

  7. he's been recently posting on philly.com. i know, i know... who cares. i was just checking in over there and was reading a thread he started. does anyone remember him from 'back in the day'? his 'return' to the board is highly suspicious and reeks of buffalo rick. bad spelling, 'so be it', and all.

anyone else get that feeling? i only bring it up because i don't wanna see that douche over here...

I never post on there any more. It's too frustrating and I won't give those trolls the satisfaction. But I was reading the same thread and thought the same thing. He sounds a lot like Rick. Too many similarities in style and his actual life story. Rick never was all that bright.

  8. Man, this just kills me. Twice now to Winnipeg. Mostly because my freakin' sis-in-law is from Winnipeg and just won't shut up about how great the team is. She doesn't even follow hockey, but she loves her Jets, and there's no arguing with her. And now I have to eat it again!! I think I've jinxed the team when it comes to playing against Winnipeg. Sorry guys.

And is there anything that can be done about Shelley?

  9. I would support this too. Otherwise, don't disrupt the currentsituation. The team seems to have something developing, they look to be playing well together for the most part. Ride that wave for as long as possible.

Okay, based on the one game he played last night, maybe I jumped the gun on sitting JVR. He had a good game. That said, I still think it's important not to disrupt the current chemistry if it can be helped at all.

  10. From teh FB:

    Philadelphia Flyers

INJURY UPDATE: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren on (D) Erik Gustafsson: "Erik underwent wrist surgery this morning at Methodist Hospital. The surgery was performed by Dr. Randy Culp. We expect Erik to be out of action for six (6) weeks.”

    Can Schenn play D? ;-)

I KNEW there was something wrong with his wrist several games ago when I saw him rubbing it on the bench. This sucks. He was coming along.

  11. Sounds like Jagr has grown up. With age comes experience, wisdom, and maturity. As I said before, I loved to hate this guy. Now I hate that I love him. Ha. That sounds kinda queer, but he's like one of my favorite players on the team now. Our rookies and young players have a great opportunity in playing with him this season. I hope they appreciate that and don't waste it. The change in the team this season after dumping Richards and Carter and brining in Jagr and Talbot and with Pronger anchoring it all is so obvious and has been phenomenally positive. The Columbus fans are bitching in their blogs now about how lazy Carter is and how he doesn't take advantage of second chances. I just shake my head and smile. We are so much better off.

  12. basically, hybryid icing accomplishes nothing other than asking the officials to make another judgement call on the ice. it opens the door to a whole new world of "i totally could have caught up to that but the linesman called it early, no fair" while leaving the scarey footraces into the end boards intact.

    Exactly! It's too subjective.

  13. The way JVR has been playing (possibly injury related), this could be a good time to sit him. Since he has come back from his game being a "healthy" scratch, he has been mostly invisible. This could be a good opportunity to rest him and give Schenn a shot without disrupting the rest of the lines.....

I would support this too. Otherwise, don't disrupt the currentsituation. The team seems to have something developing, they look to be playing well together for the most part. Ride that wave for as long as possible.

  14. That's awesome. Real or not. Rick just went completely insane. My first though was, oh man if they shut that down are those rejects (Rick, Kuato, et. al.) all coming here? My second thought was, it's probably the best thing for that forum at this point. Sometimes you have to burn the village in order to save it!

  15. This was discussed at the GM meeting today. I don't like it. The officiating is spotty enough without letting the linesman be the determiner of such an outcome. I just don't trust these officials to make the right call the majority of the time. Thoughts and opinions?

"The GMs are taking a hard look at introducing hybrid icing, in which a linesman would determine who would win the race for the puck when the players reach the faceoff dot. The theory is that it preserves the excitement of the race, but eliminates collisions that could cause catastrophic injury."

  16. Ok, ok, looks like I may be on the losing side of this argument that the responsibility for that first goal was more on Pronger (who by no means am I ragging on. I mean I love the guy and the way he plays but sometimes you have nights where you're just a step slow) than it was on Bryz....lol. I can see how they both may have contributed.....ha! I still think it was a sweet shot, especially from that impossible angle. I won't beat this dead horse any more. Hehe!!

Overall, I'm just glad they came out with the win. Like Phlyer said, both had the same records going in and it wasn't an easy game. It was a decent test. Especially coming off of a three day break.

  17. ideally, yeah, but pronger did his job, he forced the forward wide and didn't allow a quality shot. a shot from that kind of angle should not go in. bryzgalov was cheating and should absolutely have had that one.

that said, he looked strong the rest of that game.

I agree with you, Aziz, on pretty much every point - a shot from that angle shouldn't go in, he was being forced wide so Pronger was doing his job (but I'd argue not well enough), and that Bryz was cheating. I'd differ with you on that shot, too. It sure looked like a really good one to me, especially considering he was being forced wide at the time. He didn't have much to shoot at and it was a quick, nifty wrister. I liked it.
