  1. Hi Howie, Hope you're well. Leighton, I don't forget. What he did wasn't enough, for me, to wash over the repulsive stench of a lousy goalie he was when he got here. I was never impressed and yapped about him from the day he arrived, through the debacle of a Cup-winning goal scored by Kane while standing in line at the pretzel stand on the concourse, through the lies of his injury, etc. I know this horse is in the glue factory and I really ought to stop beating it, but one more time: 7 or 8 times WAIVED and traded for a 7th rounder. He's not an NHL goalie. I don't trust him as a starter, a backup, or a caddy. I'd rather they'd signed Dominic Roussel. I summary: I really dislike him. (all that said, if OZflyer is right and the need for a goalie comes up and they scrap Leighton and sign someone, then I guess I'll take some Pepto and wait quietly)
  2. Once upon a time in a land....oh never mind...Nash is a putz. I don't want him. The end.
  3. You know, when a player makes it clear he wants off the team he's on and then makes a list and refuses to play for certain other teams...screw him. I mean, dude, you're not a free-agent. You want out, fine. That's the trade off. Columbus should be allowed to make the best possible move for their franchise while getting rid of Sir Whinalot. I really don't want him.
  4. Ey rite gud. Ey wunta rite fer bleechar reepord too. Carl suks munkees Layton iz heer onlee fer Bryz so two half butter shelf-asteam Glad wee dint spent two mutch moanie. Dah kiddz wernt ben traitored. Kant wate fer dah seizuron. Lee ent. Sea? Ey kin rite gut arctical.
  5. Eh, for the most part, if I printed that article, I wouldn't wipe my butt with it. I've seen much better writing on this site. There are some things I agree with (I hate Leighton but hadn't thought of the "they won't cheer for bozo" angle), and some I don't (Carle). But for the most part, the writing is fairly juvenile.
  6. TRADE HARTNELL NOW. HIS VALUE WILL NEVER BE HIGHER!!!
  7. I going to make you laugh early and often.
  8. Not going to rip, but I'm with the others. I would rather give the minutes to a couple of the kids so they can learn and gain experience rather than sign a washed-up has-been. We have Lilja for that, anyway.
  9. Agreed, Andy. And Philly beat writers won't catch up to last season until after next season.
  10. I think it's cute that many are upset that Carle left. For all the hand-wringing and kvetching done about Carle the last 3 years, you'd think there'd be a parade or a keg party or something. I amactually sorry to see him go. I liked him more than most.
  11. Agreed completely. First, I don't blame Carle. From where he stands, it had to be pretty obvious that he was the second choice. No home-team discount for a home team that makes it clear they prefer someone else. Under that theory, it's a little odd that he chose a team that traded him for a shoe box, but I guess that was a different management group. As for Suter, I imagine he was always going to sing with Minny since his wife was from there. Was he waiting on Parise or something?
  12. When did we start doing THAT on THIS forum?
  13. I don't like the "no heart" thing either, although I did wonder about his heart during the college stuff that went on. Watching him play, I would not characterize him as having no heart. Some bad luck, and some young kid inconsistent play. The problem is that if he DOES have heart, that might make him not such a good fit in Toronto.
  14. Where am I going to go? Going somewhere would require having a life. Trust me, no worries there!
  15. I guess that's the crux of my difficulty getting my mind around this one. I was of the impression that everyone DOES do it.
  16. Jammer, the cap increase doesn't start until July 1, but neither would the new contract. Are you fairly sure that wouldn't be copacetic?
  17. Okay, I was coming back on simply to say to Doom that I wasn't confident enough to simply be saying "You're wrong!" It's just that (and maybe someone can help with this one) I can't think of an example of a club that had to wait until July 1 to sign their own player. Maybe I simply wasn't aware of the intricacies of why a player signing didn't go down a different way than it did. I was thinking about Jagr. It's my understanding that the Flyers and he had a verbal agreement pending bonuses...but is this actually another example of this (waiting until July 1 to make it official)? For whatever reason, I thought the cap was based on a game amount and since the season was over they could go ahead and begin working on July 1 basis for new contracts (really worded goofy, but I hope someone somewhere followed that).
  18. @doom88 This wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, but I'm fairly certain that's IN-season language. All the examples associated are using in-season Neidermyer/Selanne-type examples .If the Flyers agreed to terms with Carle they could sing him to the new contract yesterday, today, or tomorrow. The cap money for that new contract would apply July 1.
  19. The problem is with signing someone NOT a Flyer. They're technically someone else's property until 11:59 pm on June 30. That's what's preventing signing OTHER players until then, not what you seem to be indicating.
  20. I don't think that's accurate. The contract signed would start July 1, so it would apply to next year whether he signed it yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Of course it works.
  21. Remember your post and my response: If he's another Nash in 3-4 years (assuming you mean Nash until now, not Nash post-Heatley car ride), I'll send you your favorite case of beer.
  22. I'm sorry, I got lost there. Can't what because of salary cap? Sign Carle? They have quite a lot of cap room at the moment. So they COULD, but whether they will is an even-money call at the moment. Or is that not what you meant?
  23. I agree. Seems to me he's not taking into account the other RFAs. You add them back in (the $2M you're rounding to), you're getting close to the $8.6M I figured based on his math. All this to say his math is okay, but his memory/reason is poor.
