Maybe Briere and the scouts saw enough in Gendron that he warranted a contract and not risk having him become an unrestricted free agent and sign elsewhere.
Quite possible.

I think his Dad being a Flyer Scout actually helps in this situation. Would not be as inclined to like it in the early rounds. In terms of a formerly highly ranked kid that eventually goes in the 7th...it gives the team insider info on work ethic and mental make up that other teams would not have access to. Totally fine with this.
Yeah I'm fine with the pick. Although "dad" is questionable as insider information. There are a lot of parents of paste eaters who fill out applications for MENSA for their kid (because he can't read it).
But I'm fine with the pick. What was unnecessary at this juncture was a contract. It's not a big deal either way, but I'm not sure I get the need. Or if that was "helped."

The guy weighs 180 so he's not exactly a runt,he put up big numbers and he was a 7th round pick. So I'm just wondering was there a better 7th round guy not related to a Flyers scout?
I'm okay with the pick there. It's all a crap shoot there and the house has control. Arguably, they have "inside information."
It's the rush to the contract that is a bit concerning.

I think they see a guy who is a pure goal scorer, but small. Maybe a latish bloomer? Zetterberg was a 7th round pick, don't forget.
I think they see a guy whose father is a Flyers scout.
Flyers inbreeding continues. Nothing else to see here.

Mason would have been enough, for sure, with a better team in front of him and a coach and GM who'd have looked out for his well-being.

Well, not saying I can see the future, but I wanted to trade him in the offseason or at the deadline the year before he was going to be UFA instead of resigning him. I said so, many times.
Yes, yes you did. I didn't really agree then. If I'm being honest, I only agree now due to what's happened since. But minus the injury I'm not sure. I think I'm still in the camp of "should have done it SCF's way."

Don't see how having a retention spot helps us though. Who you retaining on? Hart? Why?
No way I want to retain on a long contract like Sanheim. I don't see anyone else we have to move
I'm with you. But if some bozo is willing to take Risto with retention, I'll be happy to have the slot available. It's not likely, so I don't know that it's wise to plan for it.

As for Reese, he was a good goaltending coach.
I'd say he was a terrific goaltending coach. I don't know enough to compare across the league, but in comparison to the hot garbage we've had over the years, he was stellar. I would have prefered seeing him work with Hart rather than Dildo. My theory is that Dildo got into Hart's head and that's the drop in play we saw from Hart until this year. The theory goes on to speculate either his sports therapist or someone else got back into his head--or he overcame Dildo himself -- and got himself back on the right track.

Agreed. Between the two, I initially blamed Hextall with an assist from Hakstol. In retrospect -- and how would I know then OR now? -- I blame Hextall. Period.

This is slightly comical to me that we're spending so much time on two "character guys" with 2 years left on their contracts.
They aren't being paid for too long or too much
There is no rule requiring the Flyers to resign them at the end of these deals. They can just go away.
They are not blocking the youths. They will play hard when their name is called.
NBD
Right. The only two utes they'd be blocking are utes slotted for bottom 6. Keep the utes in Lehigh longer to get some more top six experience. If they're not actually going to be top six, try to move the utes for another swing at it.

Go on the Flyers Facebook page and read any thread.
If you believe they're all actually Flyers fans, it'll take 10 minutes until you're convinced the average Flyers fan is an imbecile.
Then again, it could be superfan88 logged in under 500 different screen names.

Ducks should trade Zegras to the Flyers for Ristolainen and a 4th round pick.
While we're being ridiculous. I know it's the beginning of August, but Jesus.
