Position play in Hockey

In Hockey positions or the name of positions vary from 5 on 5 play to shorthanded and player advantage. For example T.J Oshie is listed as both right wing and plays the bumper position on the Power Play.

When an extra attacker is added with the goalie pulled some teams will use the extra player as a rover or free-lance type position. However, in power play situations the positions are sometimes called point position, quarterback, bumper position, net/goal line player and weakside position who usually is the best shooter.

On the penalty kill you will lose a forward and if you are playing a box penalty kill formation it seems it high corner and low corner positions.
