Brewin Flames
Records Alex Ovechkin broke / tied tonight: Most goals on the road: 403 (passed 99) Most game opening goals: 135 (tied Jagr) Ovi is 8 away from Gordie on the goals list (801 vs 793) but He's 4 away from tying Mr. Hockey for most career goals including playoffs (869 vs 865)
SaucyJack
Another post here but wha???? Ovie didn’t score! (Well, he should have near game’s end. Had he gotten a wrister off more quickly whilst being surrounded on the right side boards with an empty Oiler net nearby, he would have.) But the fate of the Caps team is more important than Ovie breaking records. Tonight was very good considering the year they are having. On their longest road trip of the year, they now have 5 points in 5 games after edging Edmonton. It’s been thump or be thumped on this 6-game trip, pretty much. To gain on the playoff-bound they still need to raise their Thump Percentage over 50%. They overcame adversity. Acting like a clueless footballer defender making a weak back pass to the keeper only to see it intercepted by the opposing striker for an easy kick into the net…at 1-1 and on the power play, John Carlson once again shows his liability. A very weak diagonal pass from the point is easily intercepted by McDavid who leaves him in the dust of a breakaway short-handed tally. But the Caps convert on the man-advantage to even it, score again, and hold the hosts off for the victory. It’s nice if Ovie can get his scores, but the team needs more of what they did tonight. SaucyJack
Seven Nineter Sixtus another empty-netter for Ovie Wan Kenobi, the Jedi Master’s 3rd straight of this variety. Second straight game that Washington puts two into the empty onion bag. It’s been 10 games since the last report. On the strength of a 3-game streak, the Caps go 6-4 in their last 10, one an OT loss for 13 of the 20 points garnered. Six game road trip is longest they’ll encounter. On to Winterpeg and Shecaaaago for the Honor Bobby Hull tournament (Jets winning the opener of the 3-team round robin tonight over the Hawks.) SaucyJack
Anybody got a cousin working for Elias Sports Bureau? Ovie’s last four goals are empty-net. What’s the record for consecutive goals by one player in which all are empty-net? I read that Gretzky still has 4 or 5 more EN tallies than Ovechkin, so hopefully this won’t be an issue come the time he gets close in that ultimate chase. NHL HHOF
798 and 799 tonight for Ovechkin in the first period! He could get the 800 tonight! 2 more periods. Maybe he'll score 5 tonight for 802 and get it over with! AWESOME! Edited December 14, 2022 by NHL HHOF

SaucyJack
So his consecutive goals being empty netters streak ends at 4. I’ll wager that’s a career high. Whether it is an NHL record awaits some huge database search by the likes of Elias. So, on their best streak of the season, the invitee Caps win the Honor Bobby Hull round-robin over Winnipeg & Chicago. Now that Ovinator is one shy of 801, we can plan the imminent Honor Gordie Howe festivities.
