Bolts deal Colton to Avalanche

Recommended Posts

Versatile super pest Ross Colton was dealt by Tampa to Colorado for a second rounder, pick number 37 which sakic and the Avs received the day before for partial payment of Alex newhook.

Colton can play any forward position, scores 20 goals on average per year and lives to hit. At this point and time he is newhook who loves to hit although Colton has likely peaked and newhook has more upside. Essentially they replaced newhook with a similar player and came out with a late first for free.

Hate to see Colton go, but...
1-- He DID have trouble with consistency on the scoresheet, and when teams zero in on Point, Stamkos, Kucherov, et al, they NEED guys like Colton to step up regularly and he didn't always do so.
Do like his on-ice attitude and his motor though. If he can raise his consistency, the Avs got themselves a very nice complimentary player to their stars.

2--Bolts didn't have a pick this year until the SIXTH FREAKIN ROUND (the price of doing business in acquiring talent to help them to three straight Finals appearances and two wins), so this trade gets them an early 2nd rounder, meaning they likely get a player at LEAST as good as Colton....maybe better for next year and beyond.

3--Colton is probably due a raise in the 2M-2.5M AAV range that I am pretty sure the Bolts would rather use elsewhere as they still have some contracts to figure out.

Don't much care to wish the Avs 'good luck', but I hope Colton himself sees success. He was a good soldier for the Lightning.
