hf101 Posted July 2, 2013 Share Posted July 2, 2013 Global Spectrum is throwing its international weight behind Renaissance Sports & Entertainment to bolster the financial health and long-term security of the Glendale arena and the Phoenix Coyotes.The late move announced today comes hours before the Glendale City Council meets to decide the fate of team which could be moved to Seattle.Global Spectrum manages 113 facilities around the world, including in the NHL.It has agreed to partner with RSE to assure financial success of Jobing.com Arena.RSE’s 15-year, annual $15 million arena management proposal projects to return an estimated $8.5 million to $11 million in yearly revenues to Glendale.That's what council will vote on this evening.RSE is the managing partner of IceArizona Acquisition Co., the entity that plans to purchase the Coyotes.Global Spectrum owns, among other businesses, the Flyers and manages the Wells Fargo Center, as well as the University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale.“As owner of an NHL franchise and operator of the arena in which that team plays, we are confident that Global Spectrum will do amazing things for us in Glendale,” said Anthony LeBlanc, one of RSE’s partners. “It’s difficult to imagine a better partner."Flyers president Peter Luukko wants the Coyotes to remain in the Phoenix arena.“Combining Global Spectrum's management of the stadium next door with the efforts at the arena creates unique operating efficiencies that will be financially beneficial to both venues,” Luukko said.“With an ability to combine our efforts, we can maximize opportunities for our teams, our customers and guests while significantly reducing expenses.“For any arena or stadium in a major market to be successful, it needs to have a major league sports team.“At the University of Phoenix Stadium, the Arizona Cardinals and the Fiesta Bowl are the anchor tenants.“We have been extremely successful attracting events such as international sporting events, trade shows, concerts, and large-size events to the stadium's schedule, making that venue one of the most heavily booked and successful stadiums in the world. hf101 Posted July 3, 2013 Share Posted July 3, 2013 In a 4-3 vote, the City Council has approved prospective Coyotes owner Renaissance Sports & Entertainment’s (RSE) 15-year, $225 million lease agreement for Jobing.com Arena. That will pave the way for RSE to buy the team with the goal of keeping them in Glendale.sourceLooks like the Coyotes are staying in the desert, and Seattle will be an expansion team.
