Because if they get that game they have to have a unique jersey for it, and the NHL only allows so many jersey changes every couple of years...plus it probably has to do with getting the design into the manufacturer in plenty of time to make the jersey available in sufficient quantities... Someone asked Russo in one of his Q&A’s about a third sweater, and he said because the Wild were in the running for an outdoor game in 20-21, they couldn’t have a third yet. The outdoor games get special jerseys and would be considered a “third” jersey by the NHL.
