  1. @brelic Precisely. Same culture, same climate, same language.
  2. @radoran Amen. If he's going to play like that, both the team and Jagr are better off with him taking more time to heal.
  3. My terminology and with all due respect to him and you...he was, indeed, brutal. If JvR had half as many turnovers, he'd be getting hell on this board. Jagr's HOF and still capable of playing at an elite level, but he's not very good right now.
  4. @aziz Ever seen the Three Stooges when Curley gets all freaked out and they have to give him some cheese to calm him down? Have some cheese dude. OK, I may be dating myself a little bit. Look at it this way though: what does it take to get a goaltender to use a particular piece of equipment in a game? They have to be pretty comfortable with it. It has to be awesome in fact. Can you imagine the conversation with a goaltender if a team tried to get him to wear a pair of pads that sucked? The technology is definitely there under the retro look.
  5. @RonJeremy JvR has been in a slump so every GM in the league is trying to steal him. I think Homer is smarter than that. Jack Johnson for JvR is a stretch. Luke Schenn for JvR is a joke.
  6. I would call him a younger, more expensive version of Andreas Lilja.
  7. They are in fact really old pads. They are paying Bryzgalov so much money that they decided to economize a little on equipment until things look up a bit.
  8. He's so good in the room. Imagine what he could do for all those young guys in Adirondack.
  9. That's over half a mill per goal. Those must be pretty important goals.
  10. I like to say this every chance I get: I don't give a rat's ass about Bryzgalov's fragile sensibilities. He needs to shut up, MAN UP, and start playing up to his contract. Especially the "shut up" part. If he doesn't have the balls to do that, then he can sit on the bench and be the most expensive back up in history.
  11. I like what I've seen of him and it seems like a fair trade, with the exception of the contract. Still, I believe LA would be getting the better player in the deal. If the Flyers do it, it may say something about their expectations for Pronger's recovery because I'm pretty sure they are trying to figure out how to resign Carle.
  12. No but Mexico wasn't listed. I live in Monterrey.
  13. It's truly the worst of both worlds: he's brutal in net and a distraction, not to mention overpaid by about $5MM per year.
  14. Maybe his groin is bothering him but he looks like the slowest player in the league right now and he's a turnover machine. Speaking of turnovers, he had a funny comment after the Sens game, words to the effect that if he turns over the puck late in the game with the Flyers leading by 2, the defenseman needs to be there to bail him out. I understand his point but...don't turn over the puck then.
  15. Exactly. When we say "He's a bust!" or "Get rid of him now, his value will never be higher.", it's really just our way of encouraging the player to try a little harder.
  16. I wasn't ready to call him a bust but I'm starting to get why they were so high on him. If he meant to put that pass to Simmonds through the defenseman's legs tonight, he's got some real talent.
  17. I just got finished watching him stone the Canes. We can't trade our stater.
  18. Let's do a targeted lockout: Bryzgalov. Everyone else can suit up and collect a pay check.
  19. The other outcomes from last summer are almost all positive but that is overshadowed by the gap between Bryzgalov's hype and his actual performance. Most people probably figured Bryzgalov would be the least of our worries. As it turns out, all of the FA signings with the exception of Lilja (Read, Jagr, Talbot, Zolnierczyk) have turned out great so far as has the return for Carter & Richards. The biggest question mark in that group was probably Voracek and I really like the way he has played. Schenn has been injured a lot and that's a disappointment but it happens.
  20. Brilliant! But I'm glad I don't work for you.
  21. @orange_crush I don't believe they are. They are fine up front but they really miss Pronger's minutes. His absence will have the effect of wearing out the rest of the defensemen, especially Timonen and to a lesser extent Carle and Mezseros. I would also say that the Lilja signing isn't working out too well, so they have problems up and down the defense corps. Obviously, goaltending is a huge issue. In terms of moves, I think they need to focus solely on the long term. Any expensive "tweaks" to make them a little better or a little more likely to make it out of the first round should be off limits. They are kind of limited given their cap situation and the uncertainty about Proner's future. I suspect he's done for good and his cap space opens up, but we'll see. The CBA expiration also diminishes the chance that they will do anything major. This is good news because they need to avoid doing any more harm for a while. I could see them trading for a defenseman but there are not a lot of forwards on the current roster I would be much interested in moving, including JVR. Once the new CBA is in place, they can decide if they want to get rid of Bryz based upon how the rest of the season goes. It would be humiliating for them (and Bryz), but if there is no improvement between now and the end of the season and the new CBA allows for a one time buyout without a cap impact, they will have to take a hard look at it. I kind of doubt they would ever pull the trigger on that but who knows.
  22. This is what's called "looking at the big picture". This team is talented but appears a few players short of being a bona fide contender (like say a #1 defenseman who can actually stay in the line up). So why get aggressive with "fixing" things at this point? This is how sensible people operate. Contrast this with the fact that that last summer the Flyers moved "aggressively" to "fix" goaltending while at the same time trading away a big part of their core in an apparent reboot move. These moves didn't compliment each other, so we can only watch and hope at this point that there is no additional madness planned.
  23. @orange_crush It is ugly but too early for a couple of reasons. First of all, we're only 40 games in. While I'm skeptical, he still has time to get it together. Secondly, with the CBA set to expire, I'm sure anyone in the organization who has any thoughts of buying him out will want to wait and see what kind of one time house cleaning might be available. Oh, and then there's the minor matter of whose idea this was in the first place: Snider's. Might get a little uncomfortable at this point for Homer to suggest that Snider had F**ked up and that the team needed to cut its loses and move on. This situation needs to marinate for a while longer.
  24. Seems fair to me. We get a promising young puck moving defenseman and they get an overpriced, 4th line character guy who's good in the room and scores a goal or two every season. I like the deal so much, I'll even throw in Matt Walker. How could they say no?
