  1. Homer's record does indeed seem to veer between great and awful, with not a lot of room in between. You can't say that the guy is not decisive though. When he wants to make something happen it happens. This leads to overpaying I guess, but only in hindsight really. There are risks and unknowns in all of it. Many fans of crappy teams would kill for a GM with Homer's decisiveness, balls and desire to win.
  2. You're not without a sense of humour Q-man
  3. "I respect your opinion, but your full of sh!t!" Where's is that armadillo lover from New Mexico anyway? Now, re the subject at hand. Here's what I'd say are some specific problems with L Schenn: he is not mobile and his mobility has not improved noticeably; his decision-making is slow and often poor (might be related to his lack of mobility, but it's also part mental); he has a crappy shot; his overall game is not dynamic (he's not creative, he doesn't make others around him better etc). Defencemen that fit that description are dime-a-dozen as far as I can tell.
  4. They should send him to the glue factory along with the horse he rode in on.
  5. Who among us can say, with absolute honesty, that they haven't confessed to things they might have done while pissed? Oh, the things I would like to recant!
  6. I'm sure Sestito threw the first punch, which is entirely suspendable of course, but going back at the bench seems foolhardy at best. I've never quite understood the decision to throw punches at a full bench of players. Seems destined for failure.
  7. Uh, no. He likely lost them a long time ago. Prolly in Jr.
  8. I heard it was Briere's careless use of his stick in practice. Par for the course.
  9. Oh c'mon, it's the toothless smile that matters. Absolutley love his game. "Skating issues" - seriously?
  10. I wish we could supsend his Canadian citizenship, permanently.
  11. So Gus is in and......Rinaldo? Bob has to start IMO
  12. Actually, I'm a defender of Carle. I don't think he's nearly as bad defensively as some. But more importantly, I recognize the other things he brings: mobility, vision and passing, which outweigh his defenisive weaknesses. The anti-Carle crowd refuses to place any value on his considerable skating and passing skills. As for Hamonic vs Johnson. They are not the same type of D-men. I think we need Hamonic's attributes more than Johnson's. He has some snarl too, which I like. Plus he's from St. Malo, Manitoba, which I just plain like.
  13. Thanks, yes the one-way was the real difference maker I guess
  14. Agreed. That's about the right value proposition. They have very different cap situations though, so you may have to shave that 2nd down to a 3rd to incent the Isles to take JVR's future cap hit.
  15. @Vanflyer - I liked Barts. He's not flashy at any one thing. I think his confidence was/is shattered. He seemed to be paralysed out there, making mistake after mistake. It's not unthinkable or implausible that he could regain it at some point. Bourdon has performed beyond my expectations, but he still makes his share of mistakes, especially ill-advised pinches at times.
  16. @Vanflyer - that's not saying much, Bartulis has 9 pts and is +4!! jk
  17. @JackStraw - if you can't swep 'em off their feet with brilliance, at least aim to disable their legs with confusion and violence.
  18. Yeah, I agree with that. I'd say JJ can also shoot better than Carle. But then JackStraw's dog can shoot better than Carle Johnson is worse than Carle defensively, which is not what we need. If we are targetting young D-men through trade I would target Hamonic. He's in the top 10-20 D-men in blocks and hits, would be a plus palyer on a decent team, has some edge to his game, the odd fight. Has some talent and upside. JVR for Hamonic and a 3rd-4th rounder would do it for me
  19. @brelic - fair enough, good points. JVR is the main trading asset IMO. Let me put it this way instead: I think we can get better than Schenn for JVR. I'm just not convinced he's that good. But I am biased against anything that is Leafs. I don't like anybody on that team. Kulemin on some nights. The rest of them? Meh. @Vanflyer - the suggested trade breaks down: JVR > L Schenn MacArthur > B Kessell JVR > MacArthur L Schenn > B Kessell I don't know enough about B Kessell either, except it's news to me that he projects as a 3-4 D-man (or even an NHLer), although I understand he gave a good account of himself at rookie camp. I said I'd prolly make that trade, but I don't know why I said that, since I prolly wouldn't
