  1. That's exactly what I just told my wife, I'm happy for Gagne but it should have been in orange and black! I got a chance to meet him in 2006 in Philly, class act! I guess Carter gets the Stanley Cup winning goal.
  2. That could make sense in having Jagr come back to secure a forward position in order to use JVR as trade bait. It wouldn't be the same situation as Carter last year where he signed a new deal and then was traded. JVR's new contract kicks in this year and most fans realize that if the Flyers want to get a top 2 defenseman like Weber then JVR will definitely have to be part of a package going back. Nothing will surprise me when it comes to Holmgren especially after he traded Richards, everyone knew that Carter would probably go to open up cap space for a goalie but I don't think any Flyer fans expected Richards to also be traded. If JVR is part of a package to get a defenseman like Weber then I'm all for it especially with the strong possibility that Pronger is finished and Timonen is in the last year of his contract. To no fault of his own, JVR wasn't really missed when he was out with an injury. He still can turn into a scoring power forward that we'll regret trading but if it lands the Flyers a top 2 defenseman then so be it.
  3. By resigning Jagr, maybe Voracek will resign at a reasonable deal because he'll get to play with his boyhood idol again. Jagr is great for the younger players and really doesn't need the money. He said last season was one of the most enjoyable of his career so hopefully he'll give the Flyers a hometown discount.
  4. I wouldn't mind seeing Holmgren signing Harding as a backup and trade Bob. Harding is use to being a backup considering he has been a backup to Backstrom in Minnesota for the last 3 years. Since Bryzgalov is signed for another 8 years, Silent Bob will never get a chance to develop here unless the Flyers are prepared to sit Bryzgalov on the bench for 30 to 35 games so Bob can play.
  5. I'd rather Holmgren kick tires with Poile in Nashville regarding the availability of Shea Weber than sign Suter to a long contract. With Lidstrom set to retire it wouldn't surprise me seeing the Red Wings make a big push for Suter and maybe even Parise [since both are good friends]. I think Holmgren has to fix the defensive core this coming summer and it would be nice to see Weber in a Flyers uniform.
  6. I understand what you're saying, after seeing the Flyers win the cup 37 years ago when I was a youngster, I always thought I'd see more cups as I got older. Being a die-hard Flyers fan like a lot of other fans on here, I don't get excited anymore when they win a series in the playoffs. I told my son the only time I'll get excited about the Flyers winning in the playoffs is when Bettman announces would the Flyers captain please come and get the cup, until then I'll continue to cheer and support but won't get excited about them. As for this finals, I don't want to see Brodeur get another cup or the rest of the Devils for that matter. I'd like to see a team who has never won it, who came into the league the same time the Flyers did and have some ex-Flyers on the team who deserve to win - Gagne, Hextall and Richards.
  7. Let's hope the Kings win the cup and send Marty into retirement for good. Kings in 6.
  8. I'd love to have Shea Weber as the Flyers new number one defenseman but I just don't see Nashville letting him go especially if Suter signs elsewhere. If Holmgren got rid of Shelley and didn't resign Kubina, how about Matt Carkner who played in Ottawa last year, the guy who laid a beating on Brian Boyle in the playoffs this year. He'd replace Kubina as a 3rd pairing defenseman and replace Shelley as the team's enforcer when needed and Holmgren could probably sign him for less than a $1 million per year.
  9. I'd rather see LA win the cup then any of the other remaining teams, I'd be happy for Gagne, Hextall and even Richards. Rangers - definitely not Devils - not a chance in hell in seeing Brodeur winning another cup, I want him gone for good Phoenix - Bettman's new pet team -- how pathetic would it look on the NHL if Phoenix wins and moves to another city in the summer Washington - can't stand Ovechkin
  10. I do see a cup in Philly's future but I don't see Bryzgalov as part of that future. The rookies got valued experience this year, Giroux has come into his own but Holmgren will have to make changes on defense and some forwards. Talbot reminds me of Dave Poulin in the way he plays. What do they do with JVR, do you make him a bargaining chip in order to get a young top 4 defenseman. How about Hartnell, he's got one year left on his contract, do you resign him to an extension considering he didn't have a great second round. Jagr, I'd bring back at a lower cap hit if he really wants to resign in Philly. The Flyers are getting there but once again they have to solve the goalie situation.
  11. Hey Howie, sorry to hear about your loss. As for your assessment, I think you're right that Holmgren has to rebuild the defense so I can see JVR being used for trade bait to get a defenseman.
  12. You want to look at the big picture, go back a year ago when the Flyers got knocked out by the Bruins and Snider proclaimed that they going to put an end to the goaltending problems and get an elite goalie. Enter Bryzgalov and his insane 9 year, $51 million dollar contract given by Snider without Ed or Holmgren taking the time to find out why Anaheim put him on waivers or why Phoenix was more than happy not to resign him. All year long with the exception of March Bryzgalov didn't give his teammates the confidence that elite goalies like Quick, Lundqvist or even Brodeur gives their teams. The Flyers on most nights had to put up 4 or 5 goals to win games because they weren't sure what Bryzgalov would do. Of course Bryzgalov is going to be the scapegoat because he's being paid to be an ELITE GOALIE but isn't. In the first round, Fleury was worse than Bryzgalov so that's saying a lot. He's a strange guy who I don't think realizes the pressure in playing in a hockey city like Philly. If there is a buyout clause in the new cba that doesn't count against the cap then Snider has to strongly consider getting rid of Bryzgalov.
  13. I don't know if it was mentioned on this thread or another but most Flyers fans agree that Richards should never been named captain at a young age. The Flyers management should have given it to Timonen instead and let Richards grow into the leadership role slowly. I've watched him since junior and always liked his game and I hope the LA Kings win the cup because I can't stand the Rangers, Capitals, Devils or Coyotes.
  14. As I posted on another thread, watching on tv they panned up to Ed Snider and he was sitting there looking lost and I hope the old ****er realizes that he didn't solve the goalie problems from last year, he just created a big ***** heartache for Holmgren for the next 8 years unless there is a buyout clause in the next cba. I'm hoping that there is no hockey for the first part of next year and Bryzgalov goes back to Russia and plays on a team and the Flyers decide to loan him. I don't care what the players say in front of the camera they have zero confidence in front of Bryzgalov.
  15. The best part of tonight's game is when the tv cameras panned in on Ed Snider and he was sitting there watching his $51 million dollar goalie playing like ****. Let's see if he has enough balls to cough up the cash to get rid of him. New Jersey deserves to win but Bryzgalov has proven he's not the elite goalie that Ed Snider thinks he is.
  16. Patience isn't something that most Flyers fans have since the team hasn't won the cup in 37 years but has come close on occasions. I think that's why fans do these comparisons when the team makes trades and the players traded away are in a better position then the players that are on the Flyers. After all of the changes that were made this year, no one expected the Flyers to hoist the cup this year. Most fans were hoping for the team to make the playoffs and the young players get some experience and then hopefully make a run in a couple of years. But once the team beat Pittsburgh and it looked like the east was wide open with the defending champs gone all logic went out the window. My opinion, regarding the Richards trade, both teams won. The Kings got something for the present regarding a playoff performer like Richards and the Flyers got future with Simmonds and Schenn. It sucks as fan watching a player who you thought would be playing for your favourite team for a long time, ends up traded and goes to a team that could win a championship but that's sports.
  17. I think that statement says it all. He was never comfortable talking or dealing with the Philly media when he was the captain. Now that he's out in LA, the media is probably not as bad as it was in Philly and he can just go out and play his game. It doesn't hurt playing on a team that has a very good goalie either. I was hoping when they traded Richards to LA that Quick was coming back to Philly.
  18. Agreed, I'd have no problem seeing the Kings win with all of those ex-Flyers on the team. I'm sure if Marc Savard got his name on the cup then the Kings could petition to get Simon Gagne's name on. It would have been great to see Richards and Gagne lift the cup in a Flyers uniform but it's not their fault that Holmgren didn't get a real goalie that year. As long as the Rangers, Devils or Capitals don't win the cup then I'll be happy.
  19. But remember before the hit Giroux was yelling at the ref regarding Brodeur playing the puck outside the goalie zone behind the net, so he was pissed that there was no call on that. Then he ends up going down to hit Zubrus. We'll see what Shanahan does, if he thinks that Giroux took out his frustration on Zubrus because of the non-call seconds before, then I can see Shanahan suspending Giroux for one game. If he does, then maybe that will be the rallying point for the rest of the team to start playing hockey [ which is sad considering these guys shouldn't need motivation to get up for a playoff game in the first place].
  20. Don't worry it's all part of the Flyers master plan to let Jersey go up 3 games to 1 only to come back and win the series like NJ has done to the Flyers in years past. I guess if New Jersey takes out the Flyers then Philly fans can cheer the Flyers West team - LA Kings.
  21. The difference in the Devils series so far and the Pens series is little bit better goaltending [brodeur compared to Fleury] and way better defense.
  22. Maybe they should start treating Kovalchuk and Parise like they treated Crosby and Malkin, with hatred and wanting to beat the crap out of them. They know they can't go back to Philly down 3 games to 1 so sunday they have to bring their best effort of the series. There might be some truth that they don't want to make mistakes because they know it will end up in the back of the Flyers net. Let's face it, in the Pittsburgh series, Fleury was worse than Bryzgalov, so that's saying a lot as to how bad Fleury played. The Flyers strengths is their speed and offensive and we've yet to really see that like we did in the Pens series. The teams they're facing now are way better defensively than the Pens and the Flyers haven't adjusted to it yet.
  23. Right now I don't see the same hatred and intensity that was in the Pittsburgh series. Give full credit to the Devils for the way they're playing but the Flyers team doesn't look as hungry as they did against the Pens. Bryzgalov seems to give up a bad goal almost every game.
  24. I think both Rinne and Quick will give Lundqvist a run for the vezina, out of the three I think Quick deserves it the most but probably won't get it. As for Giroux, like others have said he'd be quite happy receiving the playoff mvp, the Conn Smythe and the big silver cup to drink out of. Hopefully they send Brodeur into retirement in this round.
  25. So if the Sens beat the Rangers and New Jersey beats the Panthers, the Flyers end up the top seed in the east. With Boston out the Flyers wouldn't face the Rangers until the 3rd round if the Rangers get past the Sens. Should be a good game tomorrow night.
