  1. Didn't Eric Lindros live with Kevin Dineen when he first came to Philly. Ownership wanted to make sure Lindros kept on the right path away from the rink.
  2. Since the Pens took out one of the Flyers defenseman and one forward then it's only fair that the Flyers do the same to the Pens. I say the Flyers take out Letang and Crosby.
  3. Poor Vader, one of these years he'll wake up from his Maple Leafs coma and decide to come to the darkside, cheer for the Flyers. Now that the Leafs are officially out of the playoffs lets see if they can screw up getting a lottery pick.
  4. Being Flyers fans we can take great relief that there is no shootouts in the playoffs, yes the extra points lost during the year could come back to bite the Flyers in the *** but right now they have a better road record than at home. As long as Bryzgalov's confidence doesn't take a **** kickin then he'll be ok.
  5. It be nice if the Flyers can resign Grossmann and Kubina to reasonable contracts then they can decide on Carle's fate. With the new CBA coming in no one will know what's going to happen. Besides this year's UFA class doesn't look that great so players who would have gotten deals in the $2 million per year range might end up getting deals in the $3 million to $4 million per year range, a case of supply and demand.
  6. As much as I like Shanny when he played we got to remember who he use to play for. He's not going to suspend a Red Wing. Kronwall reminds me of the way Scott Stevens use to take advantage of players being in vunerable posititions before he would hit them. But as everyone knows in hockey what comes around goes around and someone will lay out Kronwall with a hit that he would make.
  7. He played a great game, hopefully this is the kind of goaltending we'll see from now on from a guy being paid $10 million this year to play. Hopefully he's getting more confortable in the nets and keeps it going.
  8. Right now for me the only way Bryzgalov redeems himself and justifies his contract is by having a phenominal performance in the playoffs. And if the Flyers fall short in the playoffs and there is a buyout clause in the next CBA where teams can buyout one contract that won't count against the cap then it has to be Bryzgalov's contract. With Pronger the Flyers can put him on LTIR like they did with Rathje and use his cap space elsewhere. But Holmgren has to get into the habit of at least having one or two contracts available against the team's 50 contract limit going forward instead of being up against the limit before going into the trade deadline. I'd like to see Silent Bob get a fair shot in goal but that will probably not happen. If they are going to trade JVR, I hope he's part of a package to get Shea Weber out of Nashville (probably wishful thinking on my part). But I'm going to enjoy the playoffs and see what happens with this team.
  9. I'm just glad Holmgren didn't repeat what he did last year with the Versteeg trade, and he's going to let this team play out the rest of the year as is. Hopefully they learn to play better team defense to limit the shots on Bryzgalov. Once the season is done and the CBA is settled then Holmgren can decide which way to go regarding the defense and if they should get rid of Bryzgalov. As for Carle, if he wants to stay in Philly then he will resign otherwise he will go where the money is.
  10. The only problem with that is Bryzgalov was brought in to "steal" some games during the year when the offence wasn't clicking or having a good night that they could count on Bryzgalov. But that hasn't been the case, he's good for giving up at least one brutal goal everytime he's in net and you won't win anything with goaltending like that. Unfortunately, the Flyers might have to go with him and silent Bob for the rest of this year, but hopefully they can get rid of Bryzgalov in the summer. He looks totally lost in net or it could be the simple fact he doesn't give a Sh!t and just collecting a pay cheque. Either way, it would be interesting to see if Holmgren inquires about Nabakov and tries to trade for him. If he does then just sit Bryzgalov's *** in the stands for the rest of the year. Maybe the Flyers can do what the Blackhawks did with Huet and "loan" him to a Russia team in the KHL and just pay the difference for his yearly salary.
  11. The problem is Bryzgalov thinks it's everybody else is to blame except him. He has zero confidence or maybe he just doesn't give a Sh!t and is just collecting his paycheque. Or maybe he's finding out what it truly feels like to play in a real hockey market where the fans and media actually give a Sh!t about the team unlike Phoenix. It's time for him to put up or shut up and earn his $10 million pay. And if he doesn't figure it out, hopefully there is one time buyout in the next cba that doesn't affect the team salary cap and Snider sucks it up and gets rid of this idiot. The only way he can redeem himself is to backstop the Flyers to a cup.
  12. Well said, the ownership and management should shoulder a lot of the blame when it comes to goaltending in Philly. As point out in other posts, Clarke never considered goaltending a big part of a team, never took the time to develop a goalie from within the system. Snider forced Holmgren's hand this summer by having him outbid himself for Bryzgalov's services when there was a few teams looking for goalies. In hindsight signing Vokoun to a short term contract and letting Silent Bob develop would have been the wise choice. Now, from Holmgren's standpoint, where does he go from here. Unless there is a buyout clause in the next CBA that allows teams to buyout a player without it affecting the team's cap then the Flyers will be stuck with Bryzgalov.
  13. Hey Howie, Seeing how it was Snider behind signing Bryzagolv and if the trend continues, we as Flyers fans can only hope that the new CBA will include a one time buyout of any contract on the team and it doesn't count against the cap going forward. Right now my choice would be correcting the mistake of signing this guy to a nine year deal based on the way he's played so far.
  14. I agree with Aziz when it comes to Thomas, he seems to be playing at another level and the Boston players can play their game with the confidence if they do screw up that Thomas will be there to bail them out. But you can't forget the difference Chara makes to the team also, when he was out of the lineup the Bruins struggled. The kind of remind me of the Oilers when Gretzky and the boys had Fuhr covering their backs, same goes with Bruins with Thomas. Holmgren has to consider getting another veteran defenseman to help with the loss of Pronger.
  15. Is it ironic that now Pens fans aren't cheering about the hit on Crosby by Steckel and now Crosby is going through the same things as Lindros went through after the Kasparitis hit. Sadly Lindros was never the same after that Kasparitis hit and it looks like Crosby will never be the same. The Pens management should have told Sid to take the year off.
  16. Well I guess Holmgren felt very confident that no one would claim Walker or could it be that other teams know the way Snider is and figured it's not worthwhile to pick up Walker and screw the Flyers.[not to mention getting Walker would screw their team by having him in the lineup].
  17. The Versteeg trade should have never happened, Holmgren panicked but instead of bolstering his defense he decides to waste a 1st rounder on getting another forward. Versteeg benefitted from playing with Dave Bolland in Chicago, he never looked good in Toronto getting top 6 forward minutes and in Philly was playing hurt.
  18. Well if Clarke has anything to say about it, then Holmgren will be going after Ryan since Clarke has always wanted Ryan. Ryan would look on the right wing with Giroux centering him. But the Flyers need defense more than forwards right now so I don't see Ryan in a Philly uniform.
  19. I think Bryzgalov should get between 55 and 60 games with the rest going to Bobrovsky. That way he'll be fresh for the playoffs. If Bryzgalov has a bad game then Lavy has to come back with him to give him a chance to redeem himself. Reese is definitely going to earn his money this year with these two goalies.
  20. I think if either team doesn't score after playing 3 on 3 then it should end up a tie with each team getting a point. But if one team wins in overtime then the other team gets no points for the overtime loss.
  21. Bryzgalov has to get use to all of the defensemen playing in front of him. He wanted to be paid as one of the highest paid goalies then he better start playing like one. It will take time for this team to jell, hopefully Holmgren doesn't start panicking and trading young players away.
  22. Eliminating the shootout would be a good thing. Maybe have a five minute 3 on 3 in overtime to try and achieve a winner. Go back to divisional playoffs for the 1st and 2nd rounds.
  23. I'm just curious to see what Flyers fans want to see different in the new CBA for next year. A couple of things I'd like them to change is 1) get rid of the 35+ contracts counting against the cap if the player retires. 2) make the maximum years for a contract or contract extension to be 7 years no more 10, 11 or 12 year deals 3) depending on the length of the new deal, each team is allowed a buyout of one contract that doesn't count against the cap in future years.
  24. That might not be a bad trade considering Carter has an extra 5 or 6 years on his deal compared to Staal, but Columbus would have to send or trade players that total to the extra $3 million cap hit so they can get under. Also, I assume Staal has a no-trade clause and Carter's kicks in after this season. I think it would have be a blockbuster if it's going to involve Staal.
