    It was.

Any GM in the league would have.

Well he got a 1st for Walker, a 5th and taking on Ryan Johansen and his contract.

Well I guess that's better than giving one which most other Flyer GMs would have.

Theres gum stuck on the bottom of my shoe better than Chuck Fletchers hockey sense.

Two years away, from two years away...

Drysdale missed almost two full seasons, missed half the games after being traded to Philly and now he needs offseason core surgery and as we have all seen  before, it takes an entire season to get back to normal from that. So at this point we can’t even say that we broke even in the Gauthier deal. I have a sinking feeling it’s gonna be a big loss in that trade. I hope I’m wrong.

The Provorov deal was a good one.

    He got rid of Hayes.

He got a first for Walker (2 1sts and a 2nd for Provorov). He got a 5th for cap space.

He added a second with Drysdale...

His off-season signings were the foundation for this team achieving what it did (regardless of how we might feel about it).

Overall he's infinitely better than Chuck Fletcher just based on where they are now.

That's no guarantee of future success...

    :hocky:

I think the Drysdale trade will be a flop, I know he’s better than the other idiots we had, but he can’t miss in this draft and no drafting longshots , when you are lacking in talent you gotta go for the more sure thing. We have some catching up to do and I really hope we trade up for a high end dman, since there are only a couple of centers. I just hope he doesn’t go out and sign any 28 yr old UFAs like Reinhart , if we weren’t stuck with Coots then maybe. I heard we may trade Farabee, so that will free up 5 million, so you never know.

Yeah, good point. I’m sure Danny had better offers on the table but said, “FCK that. I’m going to take a lesser deal, and all you haters can suck it” :eyeroll:

Not really, in his mind Drysdale may have been the best offer but in Chuck Fletchers mind trading for and re-signing Risto was a good idea too. It all depends on your idea of a good deal. I would rather have had a player who didn’t spend his first three years with major injuries. I don’t how much talent you supposedly have, I’m just as concerned as if you can stay on the ice. I would think after Patrick and Ellis we would be wary of trading for anyone with injuries, but obviously not. They also thought signing Seeler for four years was a good idea too.  Briere has made one good move so far , drafting Michkov. We have to wait and see if he turns into Shmuck Fletcher the second.

  4. And another thing, why is it that they just announced Ristos  injury is a ruptured triceps and he will be getting surgery and it will take three months to heal. Why wasn’t surgery done months ago to ensure 100% he will be ready for camp? I thought we got rid of the incompetent medical staff?

Damn. Now, they can't even coach Drysdale on how to play in his own zone now, for God knows how long.  The retool, we all know, is about ego and pride going back decades. They could have tanked for Bedard, instead of being a borderline playoff team. Michkov will be very good at least, IMO, so they lucked out.  This organization can't get out of its own way. The more things change, the more they stay the same, indeed.

The Patrick pick continues to haunt them, to this day. Red flags all over him, yet he was their pick. The Gauthier situation, I don't blame them for..UNLESS he didn't want to play here, and they knew ahead of time and drafted him anyway. If that's the case, obviously that is sheer total incompetence from the Flyers organization.

I’m optimistic about Michkov, Andrae and Bonk , these seem to be some good picks. Tippett and Foerester are both snipers with some good size. Frost, Farabee and Brink have skill but are on the small side and I have  written off Drysdale, there is no way we are even coming close to even in that trade. Now we need a legit #1 center with some size and a true #1/2 dman who can shutdown opponents and provide offense. I like Yakemchuk a big dman with offense and hitting skills, I dont think any centers will be around for our 12th pick unless it’s Hage a solid center with some size, but he’s more of a late first round pick. I’d like to trade up for Dickinson if we could. We cannot fail in this draft, we have had enough setbacks.

  6. So this is the third major injury for this guy in three years and how effective are players after this type of surgery, it usually takes a full year to be at 100% after core surgery, so he will probably be a non factor next year too. The more things change , the more they stay the same. Even the new regime trades for injured players. The rebuild/agressive retool has been going on since 2010 and we probably lose Carter Hart  after having bad goalies for 30 years, we draft Mr Softee  Nolan Patrick, then we get the 5th pick and our best prospect in years doesn’t wanna play and gets traded for another injury prone lemon.  Im so fed up, I was 11 when the Flyers won the Cup, I may not live to see them win again.

Well ****, all that based on less than 30 games. You got some lottery numbers to share?

You're certainty about this comes from what information?

The fantastical scenario where Anahiem gives up its 1st pick happens how?  because you'd "alpha up" on the trade partner or something as looney?

    Who had the leverage?

Where is your info from or is that scenario what you'd do on Playstation?

Your post is a bunch of ill informed nonsense. But written in an authoritative way, to seem like you knew better then and certainly know better now.

Your insight is usually way better than this garbage.

Gauthier is a highly regarded player, even if he didn't want to come to Philly his value had to be higher than an injury prone one dimensional defenseman. I don't have any proof, just like you don't have proof that Drysdale was the best deal out there. How is asking for Anaheims pick with a protection for one of the top-rated guys from the 2022 draft an unfair deal....and I don't have a Playstation.  I'm just pissed off because I truly believe Drysdale is a flop and Gauthier is gonna be way better. We should have been more careful after the Ellis deal and drafting Patrick.  How the hell could you trade for a guy who's been injured multiple times. This is not based on thirty games, it's bases on three NHL seasons where he has basically shown nothing. Didn't we have enough of our own injured guys who's development was hindered , we had to trade for another one.

He was never destined to be a minute munching #1, because he's too small and isn't strong defensively... For me, the big question with the trade was Drysdale's ability to stay healthy. He's only played one full season since 2019, his first year with Erie, and it's just not tracking well. What surprised me was Briere, with a smaller team, gambling with an under-sized defenseman. He's not heavy and doesn't have the wingspan you'd like to see.

After what happened with Nolan Patrick, I don’t know how Briere even took a chance on twice injured , frail , small guy like Drysdale. We already have a dman just like him, minus the injuries in Cam York.. Gauthier was a #6 pick, so I would have asked for Anaheims pick protected as long as it wasn’t the#1 pick, if it was the #2 then we throw them something else. I don’t believe that was the absolute best offer out there,.We got robbed. I hope we unload Drysdale to move up in the draft before he becomes Patrick the second. He’s a p u $ $ y.

It kinda sucked, though he doesn't sound like the kind of guy you can count on does he?

As for the top prospect, he's not even Phillys top prospect. And I'd have traded him in a heartbeat for Celebrini.

It’s funny that the first big piece of our rebuild is already gone and I am not impressed with Drysdale, he’s a step above Ghost in talent level, his defensive game is mediocre and he hasn’t scored much, at least Ghost scored some big goals, Drysdale was invisible for the Flyers. He also said he may need offseason work done on his shoulder. Other than that it’s looking like a great trade.

For me, it depends on how long the contract is. If it's a 7 or 8 year deal, I'm skeptical because then we're looking at 35 - 36. In most cases, forwards are usually done by that time. They simply don't have the wheels anymore or the hands aren't what they used to be. Now, you might be able to dump the contract off to a team that needs to hit the salary floor, but then you're giving up a huge asset to make that move.

If the contract is a 5 to 6 year deal, that's a little more palatable. You've got someone who will be 34 - 35 by the time the contract finishes and maybe you can get them to sign a team discount deal for another two years if they have something left in the tank. Part of the problem with Konecny is his style of play leads to injuries and time on the injured list. The thing is, I don't know if you can tone him down.

Do I think you move him? Hmm, I'm not sure. You could make a case for both moving him and keeping him.

Konecny is a small guy who plays big and he has been injured a number of times throughout his career, he has missed about 20 games in three out of of his seven seasons. They have him listed at 192lbs, he is more like 175. I would gauge the trade market and see what the offers are before I give him a Coots style contract.

This is a really interesting idea I'd not thought of before.  Asking for a blue collar 100% effort out of 18 skaters, 60 minutes a game for 82 games is maybe NOT the greatest approach ever.  Let them pace, let the third and fourth lines eat time to cover for slow night from the top 6, allow for slow nights from the top 6.  Allow some players to play a 90 foot game now and then.  Basically, allow the players to see the season as a long journey they don't have to be killing every minute along the way.  And a journey with extra distance to go at the end, should things turn out well.

It's an interesting idea.  It makes some sense, and it does explain what we've seen of Tort's results for the last two decades.  Has anyone noticed successful teams coming off the throttle throughout the season in this way?  I can't say that I have, but then I've never really watched for it.  Nor have I followed any particular team other than the flyers game in/game out through a season.  Then again...it could explain that 09-10 finals run.  They definitely took long naps through that season.

Would you accept a team that regularly has players/lines taking shifts/periods/games off, if there was some idea it'd pay off in the long run?

    Interesting idea.

ThenTorts factor of gettting the most out of the least  and the style the Flyers play which is team defense, back checking, shot blocking and out working more talented teams is not sustainable over 82 games. Eventually the lack of talent will surface, it just surfaced a lot later than we expected. The tipping point was trading Walker and the injuries to Seeler , Coots and Konecny down the stretch. Without Torts we would have been a bottom five team. This team has a long way to go. We are solid on the wings ,especially RW,  Center and Defense are the top priority going forward.

I can't wait til they do the exact same thing next year, and we're having the exact same conversations about about veteran leadership and how the playoff run that doesn't materialize will benefit the team more than a high draft pick. And then wonder why this team is always in the same place it is. 🤔😆

Yes that defensive stalwart Seeler was a -5 and the potential all star Drysdale was a -6, that re-signing and Gauthier trade are looking like some great moves.

    I don't think that's a first pair.

I think those guys play on different parings.

Oliver Bonk has good size, This Hunter MacDonald has good size and a mean streak, Carter Southeran has good size.

You wouldn't need to put York and Drysdale together unless is was 6 on 5 or specialty teams.

Drysdale's skating is so good, he may ultimately thrive with a Chris Therrien/Darren Hatcher type as his partner.

His scouting report actually says he needs to paired with a defensive guy to get the most out of him.

DONE! make me hockey czar. first order of business is remove the instigator

Through Executive Order I am eliminating the lame shootout and instituting a ten minute OT and after ten minutes if it’s a tie, then it’s a tie and the loser gets zero points . I don’t believe in participation trophies.

These guys are playing sluggish and whooped. They're toast. It would have been nice to have added a couple of impact players at the deadline, especially ones with some offensive skills. The last GM and those above him at the time, buried this team with awful decision making, and Briere couldn't do much..BUT I wish he had done a bit more at the deadline. Tortorella has gotten as much out of them, as he can. They just don't have enough of anything, especially consistent talent. They'll be on the golf course by the end of the first round of the playoffs, if they make it that far. 2-5-3 in their last 10.

There is no way, we were getting any impact player unless you traded TK, we don’t have anything else to trade that will get a great return . We cannot win anything with the centers we currently have . Frost is playing first line but he’s more like a second line. guy. Poehling and Laughton are certainly not second liners and Coots is washed up. We have a long way to go.

I feel like I need more data on Drysdale before I jettison him for magic beans.

He's got some "you can't teaches" to his game that are evident in limited viewing.

Give him some time to get healthy and coached up by Brad Shaw and make a determination then.

The injuries, they are concerning, maybe he out grows them. It happens. His body isn't fully grown.

He's what? 21? That's young and he's nowhere near finished developing as an NHL defenseman.

I think there is significant room for his game to grow.

My favorite defenseman weren't super physical players. Lidstrom, Niedermeyer, Howe all managed to be pretty awesome. Drysdale skates like Niedermeyer- I'd definitely get a longer look at that talent.

I’m just concerned about his small size, Nieds and Lidstrom weren’t physical but they had solid size and weren’t hit with  multiple major injuries before they hit 22. I don’t think having two small guys like York and Drysdale as my first pair is gonna work in the long run. I hope he works out, but I have a sick feeling that we are gonna lose the Gauthier trade big time. if we could use him to move up in the draft and get a guy like Dickinson, I’d unload him in a minute.

  17. 36 minutes ago, OccamsRazor said:

Sure he's young and is an offensive Dman who is still learning but if you can move him for say a young center who can help I say sure why not this team needs so much I look at everything and everyone

To me he’s another Ghost, all offense and zero defense, we got robbed in trading him for Gauthier. I know we were handcuffed in the deal. I wish we would have got Byrum, I know Briere tried to get him but Colorado ended up trading him to Buffalo .

The bottom pair is not working should reinsert Ginning and Attard - sit Zamula and Johnson too.

No more Cam and Nic D either this is hockey everyone needs to be rowing.

Brink and Lycksell are better hockey players and make the team better not Cam/Nic.

It doesn't help any that the Wings won too. This team looks cooked.

    :BrownBag:

Drysdale is also horrible defensively, if we could trade him for a high pick at the draft or use the FLA pick and him to get a top ten I and grab a dman, I’d do it.  He’s a small injury prone softie.

  19. 2 hours ago, OccamsRazor said:

If not next year then the next year and then if not that year then the following year...

...so tired of this clown and never ever being the consistent stud they need him to be on the back end...he always just has moments and that is all there ever is with that dude...i would love it if they still moved the guy he is the Jake Voracek of the blueline.

Come on, he hit a career high in goals this year, he’s been our best defenseman. He’s obviously not a true #1 dman  and Torts has  his him playing huge minutes as I’d he is, that’s been a big problem with our team for years in miscasting players. If we had a better player group of dman he would be a better player because he’d be on the second pair where he should be.
