  1. He said the scouts wanted Makar but Hextall overruled that, who knows if that’s true or not. Clarke couldn’t even remember Girouxs name at the draft and it was one of his only good picks he ever made.
  2. Of course, that’s how the main stream media verifies sources. I will stoop to that level to justify my argument.
  3. Late breaking information…Minnesota offered Rossi for Gauthier. So now we can debate on what we needed more, a center who scored 40 points or a one dimensional defenseman who scored next to nothing and was injured again. I haven’t seen enough of Rossi play, but stats wise, he’s the better guy at this point . I think center was a bigger need than another Ghost style defenseman. If we had gotten Byram than I think I’d have preferred him over Rossi. At this point I think a center would have helped us more than a dman who can’t play defense. Maybe Drysdale turns into Bobby Orr, but so far I’m leaning towards Briere didn’t make the best deal possible.
  4. Yes , remember when they bought out Leclair and another big contract and then they signed that slug on skates Vinny LeCavalier to a five year five million dollar deal. They were and still are morons, maybe just to a lesser extent.
  5. Yes , but high first round draft picks are given the rookie minimum of 950,000. We gave Fedetov who was a late round pick over three times that amount. That is very unprofessional.
  6. Don't forget we are also paying 4 million to Johansen too. Is Bernie Madoff managing our salary cap?
  7. Frost is developing into a good 2 way center, he will never be a #1, but he's almost a #2. We actually need another center in addition to Frost, trading Frost and something else for Zegras still leaves us with only one skilled center. Konecny is still the best bargaining chip to get a center, but I think we need a big power center , who is good on faceoffs and who has offensive skill to complement Frost. We need a younger version of Coots with better skating ability.
  8. He was one notch above Claude Boivin,.Steve Smith and Darren Rumble. Clarke could really pick em.
  9. They take head injuries much more seriously than in the past. In today's NHL Lindros would be unstoppable. Think about the headhunters/ low hitters he had to face, Pilon, Kasperitus,Jovo, Stevens, Samuelsson, Marchment, etc. There's very few guys like that today. As for Patrick, I didn't like that pick from day one. Then again, I may be wrong, there's a guy I see daily who's walking around brain dead and falling off bikes, down the stairs and shaking hands with imaginary people.
  10. Remember Alexandre Daigle he could skate, he just couldn't do anything else. I'm not worried about the coaching, I'm worried about him physically holding up in order to be coached.
  11. Yes he was on the trainers table and the operating room table, multiple times.
  12. I heard he's about as good defensively as Drysdale.
  13. Plenty of professional GMs make mistakes. I don't know what Colorado offered any more than you know what offers Briere turned down. I know we asked for Byrum, but they wanted a center and traded him to Buffalo for Mittlestadt. I don't know what the counter offer was. What are your thoughts on"The Professional " Briere signing an unproven goalie for 3 million? It doesn't seem to professional to me. I'm not saying I dislike Briere at all, let's just wait and see before he annoint him as a our savior. He is better than Shmuck but so are alot of people. I'm anxiously sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring.
  14. I wish we had some dmen elbowimg people in the face instead of a revolving door -6 softie like Drysdale. I like York ,I don't think he's a #1 but he's probably on his way to being a legit #2 guy, not flashy but steady, kind of like Desjardins. So what Dobson got abused, he scored 70 points and was a plus 12 on a mediocre Isles team. He is alot closer to a true #1 dman than anyone we have.
  15. And what do you think your argument is based on? It's based on the assumption that Briere got the best deal he could. Were you part of the conference call as a special advisor during the trade? You are also assuming Briere isn't gonna make the same mistakes as our previous GMs. He just signed Fedetov for three million a year for two years, that sounds very much like the Clarke/Homer/Fletcher school of thought. I can use the same tactics as you, arguing for the sake if arguing. If Briere took into account Drysdales injuries then he wouldn't have made the trade. We are in no position to take any gambles and we are gonna lose this one.
  16. Look at our first pair and compare it to Trouba and Fox. It's not bad but it surely isn't good enough. Due to years of mediocrity, we as Flyer fans are suffering from a condition known as the law of diminishing expectations.
  17. You asked based on what? Based on common sense, that's what. Do you think that only one team was interested in a top end player like Gauthier? You said Its logical that Briere took the best offer, since when have the Flyers done anything logical. I didn't say better offers ,I said other offers and what's a better offer in my mind might not be a better offer to Briere. It's common sense that there were multiple offers for a guy like Gauthier. I know for a fact Colorado was one team. Even if Drysdale had alot of upside, its obvious that Briere didnt factor in his chronic injury history. I would rather have a guy with a little less upside who can actually stay in the lineup. Since we will never know what the other offers were , there is no way to know, what Briere turned down. To sum it up, after being burned with Ellis and Patrick I would not have traded for a guy like Drysdale.
  18. I’m not saying he’s incompetent, I’m saying he may have thought trading for Drysdale was a good idea, when it turns out it wasn’t. There were obviously other offers for a player of Gauthier's caliber, what those offers are we don’t know. What I do know is based on Nolan Patrick and trading for an injured Ellis, Briere should have been more wary of trading for a guy who missed two full seasons. We were in no position to make any more major mistakes like trading for or drafting another soft or chronically injured guy and that’s what we did. I cannot see us winning this trade or breaking even since Drysdale needs core surgery. He’s injury prone it obvious.
  19. Drysdale missed almost two full seasons, missed half the games after being traded to Philly and now he needs offseason core surgery and as we have all seen before, it takes an entire season to get back to normal from that. So at this point we can’t even say that we broke even in the Gauthier deal. I have a sinking feeling it’s gonna be a big loss in that trade. I hope I’m wrong.
  20. I think the Drysdale trade will be a flop, I know he’s better than the other idiots we had, but he can’t miss in this draft and no drafting longshots , when you are lacking in talent you gotta go for the more sure thing. We have some catching up to do and I really hope we trade up for a high end dman, since there are only a couple of centers. I just hope he doesn’t go out and sign any 28 yr old UFAs like Reinhart , if we weren’t stuck with Coots then maybe. I heard we may trade Farabee, so that will free up 5 million, so you never know.
  21. Not really, in his mind Drysdale may have been the best offer but in Chuck Fletchers mind trading for and re-signing Risto was a good idea too. It all depends on your idea of a good deal. I would rather have had a player who didn’t spend his first three years with major injuries. I don’t how much talent you supposedly have, I’m just as concerned as if you can stay on the ice. I would think after Patrick and Ellis we would be wary of trading for anyone with injuries, but obviously not. They also thought signing Seeler for four years was a good idea too. Briere has made one good move so far , drafting Michkov. We have to wait and see if he turns into Shmuck Fletcher the second.
