Is he planning on signing or headed back to school haven't heard anything on him?

With Denver Barkey i would love to see him back in London next season and flipped to LW.

He is a left hand shot and he could carve out a spot in the lineups with the Phantoms and Flyer with less talent standing in his way.

Flyers really are in need of more talent on the left side and are stocked to the gill on the right.

I haven't heard anything about Kaplan, so I'm guessing he'll probably be back in school.

As for Barkey, he's played both left wing and center this year. Honestly, he's going to be one of those versatile forwards who can probably play all positions and not look out of place. My hope is that when he gets to Philadelphia, he plays where ever he's needed.

I don't see a lot of left wingers available where the Flyers pick, so hopefully if they do draft one, it's Chernyshov from Russia. I'm also interested in Matvei Gridin from Muskegon of the USHL. He's going to Michigan in the fall, but there's some good size and goal scoring there. I get he's a right winger with a left shot, but it shouldn't be hard to transition him to the left wing.

  2. Devin Kaplan might end up being one of those players that's a better pro than he was a college player.

I love the Carter Sotheran pick more and more. Hopefully he gets an expanded offensive role next year in junior and then after that the Flyers don't do the typical Flyers thing and pigeon hole him into a role and not expand on his skill set.

    I’m confused…..

are we wanting the Flyers to make the playoffs?

depending on your stance on the matter defines how valuable Sandstroms particular talent is

    🤷‍♂️

I don't care if they make or don't make the playoffs.

If they didn't make the playoffs, it's a higher first round pick that can be used to acquire or draft a young center.

If they make the playoffs, it's going to be an eye opener for some of these younger players.

Either way, I look at it as a win/win for the franchise.

    Returning from back injury? check.

Has played 74 hockey games in 4 years? check

Has been put into a position of great responsibility sooner than needed? check

Was overplayed when he first came back? check

Is now "disappointing" and a healthy scratch "to make a point"? check

    #neweraoforange

Was going to say the exact same thing. This falls 100% on Tortorella for not managing Couturier's ice time. Tortorella played him hard from the get go in order to try to 'win' and secure a playoff spot. The house of cards is beginning to fall apart. Tortorella needs to own this one. I'm wondering if Couturier asks to be moved after the season is over.......

C'mon, you don't really think I THINK they're building around Johnson? Ok, thanks.

I know what they've said. I never thought it would take one trade deadline. Already discussed it, you can't fall in love, going to have to be some tough decisions, whats better for the team going forward. I agree 100% with those comments.

But none of those things mean bringing in a 35 year old. It's not like he's any good. It's just taking another draft pick and Flyering into the wind. As we do.

    Heck, they're paying Johansen $4 million a year....throw him on D. 🤪

When this team is a legit top 10 team ( not just playing way over their heads for two thirds of a season) and they want to move assets to strengthen them for the present and give them more depth, sign me up.

I was initially upset about the Johnson trade, but I look at things like this. There's going to be trades at the draft and it won't surprise me if the Flyers love someone and get that 4th back. No harm, no foul. I just hate that it was Erik Johnson they acquired.

And the season itself was entertaining to watch. Everybody wins.

Exactly. Not only was it entertaining, but the new core is going to be ok. There are five legit wingers on the club. There's even one in Foerster playing on his off wing. Imagine how much better he'd be if he were on his proper wing and even then, he looks like he's going to be legit left winger and he's gonna score some big goals. Cam York is an absolute beast on the blueline. You can see that it's coming together and he's looking like he's going to be a top two, possible number one defensemen on this club. He's looked legit. Definite fun year to watch player development.

I was wondering if there was concern about his size....so i did a quick search.

    Caulfield is 5'7

    Zukes is 5'8

    Derbrincat 5'8

Hell even one of my faves Theo Fleury was 5'6

I'll just guess that Barkey has to add some pounds.

I'm not worried about Barkey and his weight. The kid is a gym rat and is in there all the time. The weight will come.

    @SCFlyguy

I think Tyson Foerster has more to his game. He's not a finished product, his shot is elite and he's strong as hell on the puck.

I think if he nears his ceiling we'll be pretty happy. There is a lot to like about that kid.

Joel Farabee will be a solid middle six guy, Owen Tippett has game breaking ability.

@BobbyClarkeFan16 has mentioned a very solid potential top 4.

I think the reason they have over achieved this season, aside from their f' all attitude  is these young guys are developing into better than projected players.

They may take a step back next season development is never linear, so the Flyers first will be a higher pick in a better draft.

They can use assets to trade for a "horse". Comcast has money.

You're smart, you can come up with some scenarios too I'm sure.

@radoran's desire to see some creativity in the offseason may be answered by the FO. Briere did get a first for Walker and no one thought that was happening. He was creative in using his cap space to recoup the 25 5th rounder.

Danny seems like a bright mind when it comes to this job.

Yep. Overachieving is a part of development. The thing is, do any of the prospects and young players have transferrable skills that they can carry to the NHL with them? And if they do, can they be developed? I think if the younger players bypass Lehigh Valley and if Shaw and Tortorella work with them, they'll be ok. Lehigh Valley is the problem and any GM with a brain can see that. I hope that Laperriere is relieved of duties this summer and someone from junior hockey with a proven development track record is brought in to correct what's going on there. Will it happen? I don't know, but I think with how the team has cratered in the 2nd half, I can't believe that Laperriere isn't feeling any sort of heat.

Can someone tell me where the horses for the Flyers "rebuild" are going to come from in the next 3-5 years?

I don't really follow the Phantoms, but the last time I can remember them doing anything was during the lockout in 04-05 when Carter and Richards joined midseason and they won a Calder Cup.  There were a number of other players from that team who went on to play significant roles for the Flyers in the next several years.

I see they are again the Phantoms are at near the bottom of their division, which seems like every year.  Even when they have made the playoffs in recent years they have done nothing.

These are mostly the players who are supposedly going to graduate to the Flyers and provide the basis for us being a contender.  I don't see it.  I don't see a single player absolutely dominating at the AHL level and demanding playing time on the Flyers.

If the infusion of talent isn't coming from Allentown, aren't the Flyers relying on the few prospects that aren't in the AHL: Bonk, Michkov and the handful of others drafted last year?  Seems thin.  Seems like you would need every one of these non-AHL draftees to be a superstar to have enough talent to be a perennial contender.

I would love for someone with more knowledge of this stuff than me to explain the path to contention when the farm is exceedingly thin.

The two horses I can think of down there are Tuomaala and Andrae. Both have kind of hit a wall, but they're going to be good. Both need competent players around them though and the Flyers have failed both from that standpoint. With that being said, Tuomaala's rookie season reminds me of Foerster's first season and Andrae needs a guy like Shaw to help him refine his defensive game. He's a work in progress, but you can see the talent and ability there. If the defensive side gets addressed, it's very possible that the Flyers might have a better skating Timonen style defender on their hands.

York - Drysdale - Andrae - Bonk has the potential to be a REALLY good top four unit in the league. And I'll give the devil his due - Tortorella has a thing for developing defensemen, especially when Shaw can find and refine the flaws.

It's an acquisition for basically nothing for a player who will play the way the coach wants.

The idea isn't "make the best move" it was "make a good move" and it was.

I said there were better defenders available. I'm not looking for the best move either because they aren't there yet, not even close. But Johnson is disappointing. He's done. He only plays the way he does because he can't do anything else of value. And what's scary is that if this club makes the playoffs, it's very possible that he, Ristolainen, and Seeler will all play big minutes because "playoff hockey" and "grind". What's even sadder is that someone like Attard, who should be given a chance to run with it because he actually played rather well in Lehigh Valley, is going to have to sit and watch this play out. That's what really bugs me about this move. I think Attard showed the other night he can play. I've been meh on him, but he looked really solid against Florida. Honestly, he looked a bit like Dan McGillis his first year here. But, that's just me though.

I wouldn't be surprised if Attard does play some significant minutes down the stretch.

I think maybe this is in addition to @radoran 's theory, is also a hedge on Ginning who in spite of that great hit was -1 and got ****** caved when he was on the ice. his X/g was in the 20s. Ronnies' was in the high 50s.  Ginning's eye test looked good, but a lot of the Panther's cycle game got going when big 50 was out there.

Attard should play significant minutes down the stretch. His size, physicality and shot are a welcome addition. He can also run a power play.

I'm just shaking my head over Erik Johnson though. He's cooked. There were better options available for the price that was paid for Johnson. If he plays big minutes, this club is in huge trouble.

  12. The only thing I hope coming from this deadline is that Gurianov and Johansen go to Lehigh Valley and help get Tuomaala back on track. Tuomaala needs to play with legit guys and those two should help him out of his funk.

As for the rest of the deals, I have no problem with the Walker trade, Seeler and Johnson were basically to appease the coach so that he doesn't have to play young players on defense down the stretch and I'm ****** glad they didn't make any deal for Chychrun.

Still lots of work to do this off season though. Briere really needs to look at balancing out the wings and the team NEEDS a legit top center (I'm good with Frost bring the 2nd, Couturier being the 3rd and Poehling the 4th).

Surprised they didn't try to acquire a goalie though. They're going to run Ersson hard down the stretch it seems.

  13. I think Conroy was right in not trading him. Summer is the best time for that. Let Markstrom carry the Flames for the rest of the season and then Wait for teams to get their cap space in check and then make the desk when they can get the most.

The big thing to getting any deal done though is going to be Maloney and that **** ****** is going to handcuff Conroy and Markstrom, regardless.

If that guy is Ceci, do you take him? $3.25mm cap hit through next season.  I would do that as long as it’s a 1st round pick.  Anything less than a 1st, then no.

Yep because Ceci can be buried. If Edmonton wants Walker and Seeler, I'd hope that not only do the Flyers get Edmonton's 1st, but I'm hopeful that Danny can squeeze another asset like Xavier Bourgault.

hey thanks I really thought you’d made it up…or were exaggerating like crazy. My sincere apologies.

But now Jones has me more confused than ever. I’ll have to read it again bc it’s interesting as hell to me…but right now I seriously don’t get it. Why tell your players “it’s BS” when the entire hockey world can see exactly what you’re doing?

edit: message to the fans - eh I couldn’t care less as long as the trades are the type you do when rebuilding. But the “it’s BS” to the players is … disturbing to say the least.

    Don't apologize. We're cool.

Oh yes this is exactly the way Jones and Briere have been all year. Whenever they talk Flyers’ future they sneak in a wink right into the camera. If you’re “in the know” you can’t miss it.

But please humor me anyway and kindly (or irritably) provide a link that documents your outrageous claim.

It was on Philadelphia radio. I'll find the link for you.
